Around Azeroth: That one memorable guild meeting
Reader Skipper's guild had been raiding for hours through Molten Core. Just when it couldn't get more frustrating, the server, for lack of a better term, had an epileptic fit. The entire guild fell under the world and didn't stop falling for 20 minutes in an endless loop. Skipper tells us it was a great tension reliever after the stress of the raid run.

I blame a secret mole-men plot.

I wouldn't be able to stand looking at it for more than two minutes.
"Brb guys, relogging .."

Same thing happened to us on one of the more hellish patch days

just another of the head scratching blizzard programming anomalies. For a while if you died in one of the hives in Silithus you would come to in the graveyard in Westfall.

I got feared in one instance and ended up running through a wall into that no man's land. We finally had to get a lock to summon me because even logging wouldn't fix it and since I was technically moving, I couldn't hearth. It took us longer to get it fixed though because of all the giggling.

I was in AB running around stables. I was almost at the waters edge when I slipped right through the ground! I looked up to the world moving away from me as I fell. I was also "still moving" and couldn't cast anything. Eventually I drifted all the way off the map. So i just coached everyone in /bg haha.

This happens all the time on high-demand high latency servers, especially when approaching a major city. If you have a queue line to get in, it can happen.
Blizzard used to not allow you to logout when you were moving, so your only option was to kill the wow.exe process in Task Manager or you were stuck forever falling.
Worst part is that you are not restored to the ground, you are killed and brought to the nearest spirit healer.

I fell through the ground when boarding the boat to The Exodar. I ended up in Stonetalon mountains. I ended up at the spirit healer in Mulgore. Talk about travel.

Hmm - my guess is the reason why you end up in such wild places is that all the zones are layered on top of each other?

Back before the Caverns of Time were opened, I led a few people through that one way to get into them. For those of you who never did it, the tricky part was that you had to jump off of a specific point on the ground into what looked like thin air (literally...there was no ground or anything in front of you), and then land on the other side of the wall, inside of the Caverns. If you messed up the jump, you'd fall through the world.
I had a friend that messed up the jump...somehow she got turned around and ended up floating/falling until she got lucky and hit a lake in Un'Guro Crater. She was then able to swim to the top and get back out. It took a good 20 minutes for her to get that far though.

Now that is a winning screenshot.

This happened on Kilrogg about a year and a half ago. There were probably a dozen or more guilds working on AQ40, and all at once the instance server died. Anyone (myself included) running into the instance entrance was instead dropped through the world, in several places. Some of us ended up under Stonetalon Mountains! Much hilarity ensued

Just last week the opposite happened to me... I Windows keyed out of the loading screen somehow, (which I normally can't do, but always try anyway :P) and when it loaded, the only thing that loaded was the terrain. Gadgetzan? Gone. My character? Gone. Other players? Gone. NPCs? Gone. UI? You guessed it, gone.
