At last it dropped

I've talked before about playing with insomnia, and how my current schedule has caused me to play at odd hours with my Alliance toons instead of my Horde ones. I miss playing Horde, but the late shift and my new guild means that I have found myself with almost a guaranteed group for whatever the daily heroic happens to be, and I know I can rely on those players to not stun the mobs before I hit them, fail to cast heals on me while I'm tanking three mobs, set sheeped mobs on fire while I'm looking at the two mobs I was planning to tank, or what have you. So far the guild groups I've run with have been so smooth it's like I'm playing an entirely different game from when I run PuG's, and the new game is fun. We make smart recoveries from bad pulls, kill bosses, get loot and badges, and even handle the occasional wipe with aplomb rather than sniping at each other. It's been delightful.
Last night, however, heroic Mechanar made it magical.
The downside to random loot tables, as any warrior who has, like me, run Mechanar over and over and over and over and over and over again can tell you, is that sometimes (in my case, 33 times or so) you don't get that item you want. Sometimes a PuG folds before you get to the boss you need. Sometimes you get there fine and the Handguards of the Steady drop again. These are things that are out of your control and you just have to learn to deal with your disappointment.
But when the item you crave drops and finds its way into your possession, be it the Raging Berserker's Helm or the Ancient Sin'Dorei Longbow, I find that I often experience a strange mixture of exultation and gratitude. After all, it's not like I could have gotten that drop without everyone else in the run pulling together to get me there. While it's true that every piece of gear is ultimately a team effort, special pieces that you've long sought can feel even more so, as they represent a culmination of sorts, an end to your need to ever plead in your head with the random loot spirits to finally bless your group.
So share with us, what is your most sought-after drop? Has it dropped yet? If it has, what was it like to finally see it pop up in a loot window or to hear the master looter say 'Look what dropped'? If it hasn't, have you found an alternative yet or are you stubbornly grinding away at 2 am yet again trying for it like some crazy writers you may have heard of?

F U Lady Vashj, give me my Belt of One Hundred Deaths.
Darkwarder Jan 29th 2008 1:17PM
Haha, we downed Vashj for the first time last night and the Belt of One Hundred Deaths dropped. No rogues in the raid so a feral druid took it.
Cutyerthroat Jan 29th 2008 2:41PM
Hehe Belt of One Hundred Deaths, what a fool I am. This dropped on our first Vashj kill, 2 rogues in the group, Fullthrottle and I. This was before the expertise change and as such it was very sidegrade to Belt of Deep Shadow which we both had. However I had paid a ludicrous amount of gold to have Deep Shadow crafted for me before I got a raid spot in my guild, so I was kinda dismayed about the drop. So I was chatting with the other melee in our channel about it and told Full about the upcoming change to weapon skill -> expertise and how it would improve the belt. Little did I realize how big an improvement. So a minute after announcing to send her tells for the belt, the officer says main spec calls would be closed soon- at which point I /w her and asked for a moment longer that me and full were discussing it. So sure enough Full does the right thing and takes it, and I will never see the best belt in the game [barring sunwell]. Lesson: Don't get attached to items you bought for lots of gold.
If reference to the question posed to us:
Dragonspine Trophy
In likely 20 gruul kills I have not seen this drop. None of the melee raiders in my guild have it either- so chances of receiving it even if I were to see it drop- which is unlikely as my guild no longer raids gruul for some time now- are slim.
Oh well wtb MoTB XD

I've been working on my Assassination set while my guild gets enough consistant people together to restart Kara, and that can be obnoxious, let me tell ya. Arc is not fun over and over and over again and it's long, comparatively.
However, I did acquire one piece with a total stroke of luck. I saw a LFM for Mechanar for a healer and that they were up to the last boss. (Panthaleon has my chespiece) I /w that if they need a DPS too, hit me up. Well, someone else ducked out, so I got in, they got the healer, I walked right into Mech, right up to Panth, and got my chestpiece! Easiest drop ever and got my first set bonus for the set.
Arc is the worst, especially if you're pugging it. I groan when I finally get a group together and they've got almost all greens....most times we don't make it to the end, which is a shame when all you get is a higher repair bill.

I never got any of the assassination pieces on my alliance rogue. But in 10 days as a 70 horde rogue, I have three pieces. Go figure. Top that with two trips to Kara giving me two different sets of hands.
Now I just need to work on my rep for some real daggers, instead of this gladiator crap.
JPN Jan 29th 2008 1:41PM
Which daggers are you farming rep for?
Saido Jan 29th 2008 1:14PM
Mongoose enchant.
Anarchy Jan 29th 2008 1:13PM
Shield from Nightbane, never drops for me. However, on my priest alt, I've had the pleasure of seeing it go to the dps warrior, and the honor of de'ing it.
Ryan Jan 29th 2008 1:49PM
Ugh, that's the worst feeling in the world, disenchanting a drop you disparately need on an alt, WTB account-shared banks.

I've wanted Hourglass of the Unraveller (http://thottbot.com/i28034) ever since I saw it on someone's WoW Armory page.
Having just done Cot2, I wanted to run it again for rep grinding, and in case the above trinket would drop. Lucky for me, my 2nd run at Cot2 yielded up that badboy, and man do I love the proc!
Getting that piece of loot you always wanted from a dungeon is an experience like no other!
JPN Jan 29th 2008 1:23PM
I love when that procs, especially from something random like a profession or a killing blow :) It's better on a non-orc though, as it's got the exact same graphic effect as Blood Lust, both on the character and the buff icon.

When I was playing my rogue a few months after TBC was released, a *prot* warrior rolled against me and won when it dropped on my second ever run. I ran Black Morass probably....40, 50 times before I saw it drop again. I was way way way past exalted by the time I got it.
oomoo Jan 30th 2008 8:45AM
i've wanted that hourglass forever, i've ran all the way to exalted and never once seen it drop. you can't always have everything your own way aye, i usually get what i want in one or two runs
Vizz Jan 31st 2008 7:39PM
I have run BM over and over and over and the Hourglass has only dropped once. Matt won the roll.
*sob*

Ritssyn's Lost Pendant finally dropped for my warlock last week.
I've been running Kara for 7+ months, and had never seen it drop. Ever. Hearing about guildies getting it on their first run or sharding it, because no one could use it, was a regular occurrence.
Last Wednesday, a group of us decided to head to Kara to see how fast we could clear it. We didn't need any gear, and I had long given up on ever seeing that neckpiece drop.
Derryl Jan 29th 2008 1:53PM
Ditto! Finally dropped for my Warlock last night. I can't tell you how many of those freakin' +fire damage belts I saw drop and get sharded. That includes TWO IN A ROW last night before Ritssyn's dropped!
phisquare Jan 29th 2008 5:58PM
A holy priest stole mine. But, but, but I CAN do shadow damage...
Tankin Jan 31st 2008 5:27PM
I have my warlock fully Karazhan geared, except for that pendant. In one run, while I was on my hunter, it dropped 4 times. The shadow priest got one and the other 3 were sharded as another guildie (he wasn't on his lock either) and I died a little inside.

I had a Prot Paladin once. But being a Paladin means that you are severely gear dependent. There are lots of Plate Drops with Intellect and Healing on them but the coveted Defense, Dodge, Parry and Block Plate Drops always seem to be given to whatever warrior we bring into our Kara Raids.
I have raided Kara for over a year now, I have been patient and the Wrynn Dynasty Greaves finally dropped, thankfully we had a Druid Tank with us.
Sadly the I saved up for and received the Unwavering Legguards a week before. So now the Wrynn Dynasty Greaves sit in my bank as a trophy, and nothing more.
There is an upside to this story though.
I do have the Mallet of the Tides as my Main Hand, so I am not so hung up about getting the King's Defender anymore.
