There's more to the game than PVP. Mages are not weak, but in raids they cannot put out the same DPS as Rogues, Hunters, or Warlocks. That Gnome Rogue said he'd love being a Mage in PVE. Lul. Sure, their CC is nice in SSC/TK, but honestly, trash is hardly an issue for a good guild. If a guild could, they would only bring as many Mages as the instance required.

Ice Mages are fairly strong and wanted in PVP (arena), no denying that.
