2.4 gives tanks some love
Whether you're a bear or you clank around in plate, the two rage-based tanking classes have some changes incoming in patch 2.4, according to Bornaak. First up, you druid tanks, Lacerate is seeing a damage increase to scale with attack power, which should help you whether you're a tank or not, but since lacerate is a key threat move for bear tanks it seems like good news on that front.Secondly, for warriors, two new changes in 2.4: Endless Rage is finally going to be adjusted to work as the tooltip indicates (so less of a buff than a bug fix, but still welcome) and more importantly, a long time problem, offhand critical hits from attacks like Whirlwind will now proc Flurry and Rampage, a nice improvement for Fury warriors everywhere.
Seems like both bear druids and warriors will be seeing improvements to both tanking and DPS options with these changes or fixes.

Um, great for Druid Tanks, but....neither of those other changes impact warrior tanks at all...
Here's looking forward to another patch that does nothing for prot solo viability.

Hey, funny enough, the change to Lacerate doesn't really do anything to Druid tanks, either. Nearly all of the threat from Lacerate is front-loaded by a flat threat bonus in order to make it possible for Druids to tank bleed-immune mobs. The bleed damage from Lacerate does very little threat on its own.
Unless they make the bleed damage scale to ridiculous heights or they change the way Lacerate's threat works, this doesn't really do much. It would have been nicer if they gave us our Swipe threat multiplier back.

Yah, those are not warrior tank changes in any way. one's for a 41 point arms talent and the other's for dual wielding. So, yeah, warriors are still gonna suck as tanks. Woo. Gonna get back to that paladin I guess.
ajaxsirius Feb 1st 2008 4:39PM
umm... i dont see prot warriors with 41 points or more in protection are buffed by these changes. they don't have endless rage, or flurry or rampage...

the last thing Warriors need are Buffs Oo
Alch Feb 1st 2008 5:00PM
proc specced warriors need a buff
Solnova Feb 1st 2008 5:47PM
Try doing dailies or solo quests as a prot warrior and then come back and talk to us. Oo.

The last thing Fury or Arms warriors need is more buffs, but Prot warriors need some love.
We need either free respecs with a cool down, a system of a spec toggle (between 2 chosen specs) with a cool down, or dramatically increased solo and PVP abilities in Prot. Currently if your not tanking a 5 man or raid as Prot, your pretty much useless.

And this is coming from the guy who writes the warrior column as well...Come on Matt, make your title a bit more accurate :P
Didn't you say you have like 5 warriors, all different specs on the podcast once?
I highly doubt you simply "didn't know"...
Matthew Rossi Feb 1st 2008 5:07PM
Meh, most folks call warriors tanks no matter what their spec is. It's not worth it to keep rolling that rock up the hill.
Tuberon Feb 1st 2008 5:03PM
Guess us paladin tanks are perfect.
Kuroyume Feb 1st 2008 5:08PM
meh, as said, it does nothing for us prot warriors... hopefully we have some changes coming to us too...

Any warrior with Endless Rage is not a tank.
Saying it wrong doesn't make it right. That's not how words work.
Should we start being ignorant and call all Shadow priests healers just because they have heal buttons? Same goes for any other class that just plain has trouble doing things they're technically capable of doing, without being the spec they're in.
When you start agreeing with the idiots, you quickly find yourself being one as well.

This article confuses me. First my heary jumped because I though my tankadin was getting something, which so far I hadn't heard. Then I read that a lacerate buff will somehow help a druid DPS o_O And as pointed out, endless rage and offhand melee crits don't help tanks in any way. For an article supposedly about tanks, theres not a whole lot of tank related info

Prot Warrior sez: lulz This post is crafted from Primal Failcloth.
Matthew Rossi Feb 1st 2008 5:50PM
Other prot warrior (in fact, two prot warriors at the mo) says sorry you didn't like it.
Pzychotix Feb 1st 2008 5:54PM
Yeah... you and yourself don't count.
MacD Feb 1st 2008 6:00PM
Matt, I'm a fan of yours, even linking your last column to our guild warrior"s forum for all to learn from. Why be stubborn? You know darn well there is no tank buffs as your title indicates. Just be the man I know you are and admit you were wrong!
Xonate Feb 1st 2008 6:02PM
Unfortunately I have to agree with the masses here. I would highly recommend changing the title.
Tcgjarhead Feb 1st 2008 6:16PM
Although this post isnt as much about tanking as a Fury warrior i'm glad to hear about the offhand fix going to be made!
