Breakfast Topic: Have you made a mailbox blunder?

Blogger McGoo used an alt to store all sorts of things he knows he'll need. But last week, he needed to farm Netherweave to finish off his Tailoring goals. So he and a buddy went on an ogre killing spree in Nagrand to get what he needed. He happily skilled up and made the robe he had been after.
Then, a few days later, he found his mailbox stuffed to the gills with Netherweave he had sent to an alt a month earlier and forgot about. Doh!
Have you made any mailbox blunders? How do you keep track of what you send to alts?

I had bought over 30 librams to build my Shen'dralar rep over the course of several months and was storing the librams by bouncing them between the mailboxes of two alts as I farmed the bop quest items. Unforunately I forgot to switch the librams back and forth, and when I eventually logged in to move them back and forth so they would be stored in the mailbox for 60 days, all the librams were gone. >

I've misspelled an alt's name and send some random character 10 gold before :-)

I thought it did this automatically for alts on the same account, but maybe not; if you put your alts in your friends list, it'll autocomplete the name after you type the first letter or two. Makes things a lot easier.

That's exactly what I do. Every Alt that i have is on all of their friends lists just incase I mistype one of their naes, which is very likely...stupid sausage fingers...lol

Thats barely a blunder - real blunders involve sending extremely expensive items to people COD....but forgetting to click COD!!

I sent a white item to someone, dunno what I was thinking when I clicked COD, the scary thing is, they payed 100g.

That's easy to solve: use Possessions.
"/poss Netherweave Cloth" would show it in 3 locations: bank, inventory and/or mail, given that you know it's on that char's mail by either checking it personally once (poss will remember whatever is there) or sent from a char to another.

That's what I do. And I check my bank alt on a regular basis.

Yep, Possessions is really good. And including the crafting addon (ATSW?) described in WoWInsider a few weeks back also helps a lot. Mousing over an item shows all the mats required and how many you have, including alts, in the format of your inventory/your bank/somewhere else. So, if you have the mat "somewhere", you can then use Possessions to find out which alt has it and where.

i've accidently sent a cut gem to someone and put 100g into the money field, but forgot to set COD, so i sent them a cut gem AND 100g. luckily they were a good friend of mine, so pointed out the mistake and returned the money and paid the 100g they owed.
thankfully !

haha, I've done that as well, knid person in the other end sent me back my money and the payment :)
enkafiles Feb 1st 2008 11:12AM
I've gotten shipments like that. ^^
The "thank-you-thank-you-thank-you!" letters I get back
when I send them their cash back with the intended payment
and a little note explaining the probable mixup are sweet
and make me a little sad.
You'd think it would be normal, wouldn't you?

I have an addon called MailTo. When I send mail it keeps track of the time sent and 60 minutes later lets me know it has been delivered. If I send mail to alts it reminds me that message "Subject" was sent to "Alt's Name" on "Date" at "Time". It also gives me a list of TO: names of alts and friends, so messages never go to the wrong place. I simply click their name in the list and send it off.
It hasn't been updated in a while so it still thinks the delivery to alts takes 60 minutes, but otherwise it works great!

I run 6 toons on the same account and it becomes tedious logging on and off to see what my toons are carrying. I also dont like addons (had an experience in November with a trojan horse/keylogger hack) and I am guildless. So I sent out message "5g for charter signature...you will be booted when guild is formed". Then I promoted a friend to officer and had all of my alts invited. Now I am a one account guild/bank. All of my mats are in the guildbank as well as all AH consumables not fully stacked. Now I dont have to get on my enchanter to mail shards to my pally to buy enchants, or get onto my hunter to mail leather to my tailor when the tailor needs them. Also, 100g for the first 98 slots was a very effective gold/storage ratio. Also, it alleviated my 70 fully eppiced holy pally from unwanted guild solicitations.

i borow 400g of a friend for a normal fly mount, send them back to him as soon as i had some. thing is he left game, and after 30 monts i got the 400 g. and i realy need them when i got them ;)

I grinded out about 500g worth of elixirs for raiding and accidently sent them to someone to someone that wasn't my main. The To field pre-filled and I didn't see who it went to. Was it a friend? Was it a guild mate? Who knows. I had everyone check their mail for days looking for it and no dice. After about 3 weeks I log in and I have the pots. They had gone to a totally in-active guild member. Lucky.

My biggest mailbox 'oops' is one I've repeated a few too many times. I'll send all of my alts....god, EVERYTHING. We're talking hundreds of items overall. Some of them worth A LOT.
And then I'll turn my account off for a month or so because I'm busy with life or something (college, weddings, things like that).
I come back, and it's all gone.
I have literally cried over some of the things I've lost. Which is why I made my 2008 New Years resolution to clear out my mailbox before I shut my account off from now on.

I'm an alt freak, so I have a lot of mailboxes to get lost in. The only way I found to keep track of everything is by using an add-on featured here, Possessions. By typing /poss Netherweave Cloth, for example, I get a box telling me how much of it I have in total. Hovering over the item name tells me where the items are (for example: 25 in Alt1's mailbox, 30 in Alt2's bank, 7 in Alt3's inventory). Gathering everything is a breeze.
It also shows items in your guild banks, by the way.

I've had something weird happen lately; one day I got a bunch of stuff returned from my AH mule that I use daily. I don't know why but it never got delivered to that character, but I guess 30 days later it all got returned to me. Weird.

A few months ago I sent 4 primal mooncloth (140G worth on my server) to "Pack" instead of my mule "Packy".
One month of trying to forget went by, and it bounced back.
I did a little dance to celebrate. ]:8}>
