Breakfast Topic: Your Super Bowl plans
Super Bowl XLII lands later today like expansion launch day for football fanatics. The New England Patriots are coming off a perfect 19-0 season and if they win today's game they will be the first team to have a perfect record for the season. The New York Giants, on the other hand, haven't had a chance at the brass ring in 8 years and are clearly the underdogs.Confused? Let me translate: The Patriots are the Horde in Arathi Basin and the Giants are the Alliance. Ah, I see the light bulb above your head now.
For those of you who enjoy both WoW and American football, what are your plans today? Did you call off a raid to watch the game? Or are you logging in during Super Bowl hoping for a less crowded server? Let us know.

Seeing as it's in the earlier hours of the morning for me, being British, I'm gonna record it and watch it tomorrow :P

... slow news day ?
Balasan Feb 3rd 2008 9:32AM
it's sunday. I don;t have high expectations for great news on sundays, and I don't think other people should either.

Plus, I think that it's a relevant topic as it is, anyway. SBS is practically a major holiday here in the states. If they can write about other holidays and the game, why not this one? And it's only a breakfast topic, anyway.

The Patriots are currently 18-0 and trying for 19-0: The first perfect season SINCE the Miami Dolphins pulled off a 17-0 perfect season in 1972.
Rabbit Feb 3rd 2008 8:35AM
The 1972 Dolphins have a world-first on the Perfect Season in the NFL. The Pats will have to settle for being the second team to do it.
davidus Feb 3rd 2008 10:56AM
The first to do it in a 16 regular season though. More impressive than the Dolphins who had a 14 game regular season imo. They're not settling for second at all.

16 game regular season*

There is a large contingent out there — think everyone outside of the New England area — that loathes the Patriots (cheaters) and while thinking that they are likely to win, prays to the Light that they will somehow lose 52-0.
Last night, in our Kara raid, the wandering Skeletal Usher was dubbed Tom Brady and we laid into him with every ounce of hatred we had.
Sadly, in a precursor to today's game, our tank lagged and the Usher one shotted our priest and threw for five touchdowns.

I come from a different school of thought on this one. I'm a huge Browns fan, so I don't have a particular interest in one team or the other, but I definitely want to have the patriots win. If for nothing else for the historical moment and also to shut up the '72 Dolphins.
As for the cheating, they are only considered cheaters because they got caught. I'm all of the other teams cheat in some manner to try and get an edge. And if they don't, then they probably ended up like this year's Dolphins, 1-15.

QQ moar, imo.

Our Guild Master (Baraka Guild on Gorgonnash) is a Pats fan and we are skipping the last 3 bosses in Kara for this week.
To be fair we had a second Kara group this week that cleared it already, and we went half way through GL so we had a good week...

I could not possibly care less about the Super Bowl. I find football completely boring. I'll be in Azeroth today. :)

For years i never understood american football. It just seemed like a girly version of rugby where the players wear plate armor (which is true, btw). Recently, however, it became clear to me: who wouldn't want to watch Americans try to kill each other?
Matthew Rossi Feb 3rd 2008 11:04AM
As much as I hate American football, comparing it to rugby is daft. I've played Rugby. With professional Australian Rules players. And I put the hurt on them (as has been attested - http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/01/22/15-minutes-of-fame-hammer-time/ -, in my 20's I was built like a viking)
I would never try that, then or now, with professional American football players. They're massive. If they didn't wear the pads and helmets, they'd kill each other. I'm not talking about teeth getting knocked out, I'm talking spines snapped like twigs. Hell, that happens *anyway* in pro football. Knees get blown open, arms get torn out of their sockets.
Saying that pro football is girly because they wear the gear is like saying that hockey players are wusses because they don't want to take pucks to the face anymore. (I live in Canada now, so I know the only real sport is Hockey.)

I'm sorry Rossi, but Aussie Rules Football is nothing like Rugby.
rick gregory Feb 3rd 2008 12:53PM
hahaha...
When your rugby player are 275lbs and considered light at that weight, talk to me. Anyone who thinks NFL football is girly is delusional or, er, compensating.
On topic, I'll watch the game. The Super Bowl traditionally sucks as one team runs away with it. If that happens I'm strongly considering... reading a book.
Juneau Feb 3rd 2008 4:12PM
Big deal, Americans in general are considered light at 275lb.
Lumandris Feb 3rd 2008 10:01AM
For the first time in years, I'm not excited about the game tonight & it's because of the Pats. I have zero interest watching them (possibly) win. I'll catch the commercials on YouTube...
