It's your 20th run in Shadowlabs and just know Murmur is going to drop your Hallowed Garments so you can complete your Priest dungeon set. I mean, it's been 19 times already and you've sharded the Tidefury Kilt how many times? It's gonna drop this time, you feel it in your bones. Down he goes and the on his body you find...a Sonic Spear. You're guildies don't need to be on voice to hear your yelling.It doesn't matter if you're waiting for a specific drop or rolling on sweet raid loot or prospecting ore for rare gems, the question remains: does the random number generator hate you?

Approaching 50 SV runs with no drops of the Mask of Penance, to add insult to injury... the thing drops almost every time on my priest

I've actually screamed about that damn MoP... I've been farming SV for the tanking neck piece and that damn mask has dropped 80% of the time and I never have a pally with me /cry

I got it last night, on my second SV run. Being a prot pally, can't say I'll give it much use (save BGs, where I like to heal heal heeeeeeal).

Well it hated me from 1-54. THen i ran brd and everything changed and i can actually win a roll now. But now i can get what i need to drop. But i did make a shaman gear so hopefullly I can do all of these once for the set.

yep have run heroic mech with my prot warrior 32 times now. Have never seen it.
Run it with my hunter and a bear druid 3 times, 3 sun eaters in a row :(

I dislike another kind of Random Number Generator : the /roll.
Back in the day, my guild would /roll for the Onyxia hide backpack.
I have gotten two 98s, and one 99.
Three times I have been beaten.

Yes it hates me. I have run SL countless times and never even seen the Sonic Spear let alone had the chance to roll on it!
I just wish it dropped from the first boss so I didn't have to spend hours in SL and end up disapointed yet again.
The worst thing is I know that when it does drop somebody else will want it and I will lose the roll!

As both a tech nerd and a WoW nerd, I would love to know more about how the RNG actually works....i.e., a computer can't come up with a random number, so there must be an algorithim (algorythim? algorithym?) to create it. I'm probably alone in that though.
And yes it hates me too, but the nice thing is, I RARELY run anything with another rogue so I'm not usually not fighting for pieces of my Assassination set :)

You seed the random number generator at the start of the program with the current time. That way, every time you run the rand() function you get a "random" number based on how many seconds from however long ago.
And no, there is no way to exploit this by zoning in on the same time.

I've yet to hit the need for any very rare drops...
More often than not, for Greed rolls, I miss out on the more valuable/useful stuff and always win the pointless recipe or what-have-you.
I tend to win the BoP's nobody needs too.

I have to get trough a 10 man with a 5 day reset to be in with a chance of having 1 out of 3 events occurring in which that one weapon might have a chance to drop and I'll be the only hunter there.... FUCK RUBY RED SLIPPERS.

I share your pain. Am fully exalted with Violet Eye and have seen Romulo and Julianne precisely once and the poison vial still hasn't dropped for my rogue.
Do have Malchazeen (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28768) tho, very nice.

You're going to hate me, but Legacy dropped for me the last time through Kara. Thing is, I likely won't use it because the S3 axe I already have is superior for pretty much every situation.
I feel guilty about it because I now have epic gear that others would kill for that I only get by default.
