What you really want to know about the patch 2.4 notes
Yeah yeah, the full patch notes are a good read, but why read those when we can pull the good stuff out? Here's what we thought was big in patch 2.4:- Sunwell is inc! Also, the island where the Shattered Sun Offensive is fighting is called the Isle of Quel'Danas.
- There's a Keeper of Time to take players in Shattrath to the Caverns of Time
- Spell haste changes are in, as well as item casting changes (items that cast spells will do so at player's level now), and more intellect will now regenerate more mana per Spirit
- Find Treasure doesn't deactivate on death anymore, but there's nothing about Find Herbs, Find Minerals, or any of the other tracking spells
- Fear Ward usable in Shadowform (meh, say shadow priests)
- A whole host of spells that weren't penalized at lower ranks are now penalized
- Earth Shield nerfed-- mana cost lowered and charges dropped from 10 to 6, and Shamans get a default UI totem timer
- Ritual of Summoning can bring players into instances now
- Warrior Endless Rage is fixed, and now you can't change into a stance that you're currently in
- Honor instantly calculated, since there are no diminishing returns
- Warmasters and marshals in AV now share each other's health, and Horde starting point has been moved south
- WSG changes: when both flags are held for 10 mins, flag carriers take more damage, increases over time. Also, flag carriers can be tracked after holding flag for 45 seconds.
- Enchanting: Void Crystal to Large Prismatic, and Defense +15 to chest
- Rocket Boots nerf is in there-- players carrying flag in WSG will drop it when boots are activated
- 25man bosses drop more cash and an extra set token
- No attunments for Hyjal and Black Temple any more (players who've completed Attunement will get "Hand of Ad'al" title)
- Vashj and Kael can be fought without finishing all other bosses in the instance
- Undead and Mechanical can bleed, elementals not always immune to poison and disease effects (though nature-based elementals will be immune to nature poisons and effects)
- Level 70 superior quality PvP items from rep vendors
- Weightstones and sharpening stones now work while shapeshifted
- Lots of UI changes, including new options screen

Spirit-Based Mana Regeneration: This system has been adjusted so that as your intellect rises, you will regenerate more mana per point of spirit.
W00t. Besides Sunwell, I think this is the best in all the patch notes.

Other big things:
* increased drop rate of Fel Lotus = cheaper flasks
* new spell haste gems

Guess what enhancement shamans got? A new icon. Totem timers? They're built into the mods that we NEED to know what to equip!

Sadly? I'm most upset that the damn kaliri will chase people up now. As if flying up wasn't pain enough. Now we can't even get away from the damn things. Did they really need to make them MORE annoying?

I've never been dismounted by the birds there.
Tank gear does have it's uses, it appears.

I know that Find Herbs and Find Fish, at least, stay on after you die. I assume it's the same with Find Minerals. The Hunter tracking abilities do not, however.

"Find Treasure doesn't deactivate on death anymore, but there's nothing about Find Herbs, Find Minerals, or any of the other tracking spells"
This was a bug fix, the others always stay up unless you enter arenas.

What does the lvl 70 PVP equipment from rep vendors mean? Are we going to be able to straight-up buy arena gear if we're exalted with Honor Hold or something?
theRaptor Feb 9th 2008 3:38AM
It is blues, not purples. What it means is that when you hit 70 you won't be a free HK in BG's and arena.
Brass Feb 9th 2008 2:06AM
that there earthshield "nerf" is actualy a pretty nice buff for pvp, and changes little for pve, have to refresh more often, but costs the same mana.
in pvp, your not out nearly as much if it gets purged now, between the purge resistance and halved mana cost, i think its gonna help resto shaman in arena quite a bit.

You forgot this biggie:
Increased the slots on Old Blanchy's Feed Pouch to 8.

"Find Treasure doesn't deactivate on death anymore, but there's nothing about Find Herbs, Find Minerals, or any of the other tracking spells"
Do you ever do a tiny bit of research, Mike? -_-
frank Feb 9th 2008 7:47AM
Find Herbs, Find Minerals is already done some patches ago

Players are disappointed... because those players are morons. They were hoping for things in this patch that were never promised in this patch. Waaahhh... I'm disapointed this patch didn't give me 10,000g. Waaaahhh.

"Players aren't exactly excited about the patch on the forums"
It's the official forums. When are they ever?
They added an entirely new location, with not one, but *two* completely new instances, added a crapload of new content, and fixed plenty of major issues.. and all people can seem to remark on is the pack that druids heals are a little stronger and one mob is harder to avoid?
Spoilt, much?
Anyway PTR patch notes are never the final notes. There are things that will be tested and possibly before the final patch is released.
As it stands, this is a pretty hefty patch, and extremely impressive. I've checked out the new location, but haven't had a chance to try out the new 5-man yet, but it should be quite the blast.
Arabelli Feb 9th 2008 10:17AM
Maybe I'm crazy-easy to please, but I'm in the same boat. It's a lot of new stuff to play with and consider. The PvP changes especially will have to be tested out before we see what really changes in the battlegrounds, but I can see turtling becoming more than a little passe.
Whoohoo!

By far the worst bit of this patch is 'you don't have to kill the preceding bosses in order to kill Vashj and Kael'. Anyone that's played in a T5/T6 guild knows what happens when you start to ignore SSC/TK in favour of MH/BT progression. Newer members get left behind, T6 drops are too few and far between for these guilds, and people end up fighting for scraps, whereas they should be gearing up in T5 instances. Guilds who break into BT/MH are all too eager to dedicate all their raiding time to them, ignoring T5, but right now, pre-2.4, newer members and those who are undergeared at least have a shot at T5 level loot, since those guilds still want Vashj/Kael loot (some of which is superior to BT/MH loot, or very specific and desirable in some way). Post 2.4, these guilds will have no reason to kill the preceding bosses, and the gear-gap in endgame guilds is going to widen.
This is yet another knee-jerk change with no thought to the real-world consequences. Bring on Wrath please so we can get this silliness over and done with.

I am excited about the summoning into instances! W00T!
