How to get to Sunwell Isle on your level 1 noob
You've gotten the PTR client downloaded, you've read all about patch 2.4, and you've managed to create a character (because your level 70 uber toon of pwnage isn't copied yet). What do you do?Why swim over to Sunwell Isle, of course!
Here's what you need to do, in six easy steps.
1. Make a priest.
You want a level 1 Blood Elf Priest so you can heal yourself through the fatigue.
2. Take your priest and look at the map.
See that big new island to the north? That's where you want to go.
3. Head North
Go north towards that big new island, and that means you're going to need to swim. As you can see from my screen shot below, you can actually see the island off in the distance.

4. Take a few hits
Once you pass into the dark waters, you'll start to see the fatigue bar pop up. Once that bar hits zero, you'll start to take damage, about 8 per second as a level one priest.

5. Heal yourself
When you begin to take damage, wait until you have about 50 percent health. Stop and heal yourself. You will take damage from the fatigue, so the heal with be interrupted a bit, but it will eventually go off and you'll find yourself at full health. As soon as you're at full health, start moving again.

6. Rinse and repeat
Repeat step 5 until you get to the new area!

When you're doing this, you will see many dead bodies of failed attempts along the way. But doing this little trick with a priest isn't too hard. I was able to make it on my first try. Mana will get low, but hopefully when that starts happening, you'll be really close to the isle.
Check out our gallery of a Level 1 Priest going to Sunwell Isle to see more screen shots of how to do this. If you don't want to try this just yet, you can still get a peek into the new Sunwell Isle by checking out our picture galleries of Sunwell Isle and 2.4 Goodies.
Oh, and when you do get to the Isle of Quel'Danas, you're greeted by the plethora of Level 70 mobs that insta-kill you. Have fun!
Minor Update: Just to clarify: while there is a flight path outside of Silvermoon City, it does not work for those of us that are level 1.
Updated Saturday, February 15th, 2008: Apparently the Blizzard gods didn't like my guide. They've placed a large invisible wall around the island, and it's not impossible to swim over to Quel'Danas. You can still be summoned by a warlock, or if you're level 70, fly out from Zul'Aman or Silvermoon City.

Another piece of advice:
Get some charges with Mana tap before you go. Combined with your Arcane Torrent, it might give you that emergency mana you need.
Personally I made it, healing only if my hp was between 30 and 40, and arrived with mana to spare.
Another piece of advice: find the first mob you can find and die, then spirit ress and run towards the vendors. Thats pretty much all you can do. All other actions will have to be done as a ghost.

Wow.... that's alot of dead bodies.
You'd think it was a death cult.

looks like a scene from ulyses31.

There's also a flightpath right outside of silvermoon city too. L2 walk imo.
Elad Feb 10th 2008 4:45PM
that takes all the fun out of it
Adam Holisky Feb 10th 2008 4:49PM
Hi Saiforune,
Unfortunately at level 1 you cannot use that flight path. I've included an update in the original post to enumerate this.
Thanks,
Adam.

how does the alliance get there?
Adam Holisky Feb 10th 2008 4:58PM
Hi TeragX,
As far as I know, alliance can access the Sunwell Isle right now from the flight point in Ghostlands. Use the same flight instructor you would use at Zul'Aman. I wish I could give a better answer, but my characters are stuck in the que at the moment.
Best,
Adam.

OMG I seriously Rofl'd at "(because your level 70 uber toon of pwnage isn't copied yet). " And for repling to my comment I give you an A for awesome ,because no other blogger does that. You're my new favorite.

can't u just die on the regular continent and run across the water to a spirit healer on the new island? wouldnt that be easier, or is there something preventing u from doing that?
Ed Feb 10th 2008 5:21PM
Unfortunately if you try to do that then your ghost dies of fatigue too. I made the migration across the water, which was pretty fun to be honest! I was gonna share the tip of mana tapping, but I've been beaten to it. :P
Saiforune Feb 10th 2008 5:22PM
You still get affected by fatigue as a ghost. So it doesn't work. I tried it when my toon wasn't copied and the ONLY way to swim across is as a lvl 1 priest.
Meira Feb 10th 2008 5:24PM
Ghosts suffer from fatigue too... because Blizzard really doesn't want you to scoop over restricted areas
bsides Feb 10th 2008 6:13PM
When you arrive there, everyone does give those pieces of advice, so I arrived there with my priest with no problem. It's fun to see all those rogues, hunters and mages leveling to see if they can cross the water - as if it'd make any difference to level.
A piece of advice: the health you lose on fatigation (or falling or drowning, it's the same system) is from PERCENTAGE - so it's doesnt matter if you are level 1 or level 70, you'll loose the "same" amount of health from those. So, if you are starting a new player, go as level 1, don't buy anything, don't care about armor, don't fortitude yourself. In fact, fortitude will just drain MORE health that you can heal on level 2, so it's just useless.
PS - There are no restricted areas... in fact that are a lot on non-developed or just bugged areas (it's a direct answer to Meira above :P). I know that by just running wow "emulated" version at home. Believe me, there is no fun at all.

when I finally had made it over, I was D/C'd and now I can't even access my character list. I know GM's normally do not watch over the PTR's but I'd laugh if they were removing all the castaways.
Pook Feb 10th 2008 11:38PM
they really need to remove some of the bodies tha lagg caused by all of those is killing the server, there must be a thousand of the coast by now..
jrb Feb 11th 2008 3:21AM
i know ressing at other GY doesn't always work, or rather, didn't last time i tried in AV. Maybe that's just a battlegrounds thing though.
Muffiny Feb 11th 2008 7:35AM
Heh, I did this before I got my 70's, and thought I was being really quite smart untill I /who'd the 200 other level 1 priests. :P
Dav Feb 15th 2008 1:28AM
No longer possible to make it, there's an invisible wall stretching northwest of Sunstrider Isle to northeast of Silvermoon. Maybe possible to try to swim all the way around the wall, but I doubt it. Found the wall at Midnight Fri Central Time.
