Is your main your favorite character?

It seems like a strange question, but think about it. Is your main your favorite character?
For me, the answer would be a No. This isn't to say I dislike my main, I simply enjoy my alt more. My gut told me originally that I only thought that way because my alt was something I didn't get to play as much, something new and exciting. As the months went on, though, I came to realize that I simply like my alt better.
My main is a DPS class, my alt is a tanking hybrid. As most of my friends could tell you, tanking is in my blood. In WoW and other games, tanking is kind of my 'thing.' Its been suggested to me a number of times that I just change mains, making my paladin my primary character. I like the idea and considered it, but there are other things that have kept me from doing it. My guild needs a shadow priest for the raid far more than another paladin, and at this point in the game, there's no closing the gear gap to catch up and continue raiding with a new main.
There are other reasons, too. Emotional attachment is a big one. Its a bit shameful to admit you care for a character that much, but after three years of Warcraft, the thought of shunting my main to the background is a bit painful. Maybe that's just the roleplayer in me, but you never know! I'm sure there are PvPers that feel the same somewhere out there, right?
Am I the only one in this boat, or are any of you guys in the same position? Is your favorite character secondary to your main for one reason or another?

I felt the same way when my hunter was my main and I was levelling my tankadin. I just went with what I felt and my main is now my tankadin and I'm raiding with that char. I'm enjoying the game more with my tankadin as my main and I'd suggest you try doing the same.

My main was a Hunter, too. I'm now leveling a Tankadin (currently level 40) to become my main. Kinda got bored with my Hunter a few days after hitting 70 =\

my fav char is my rogue, but our small guild needed a tank more than we needed another rogue.
I enjoy heading to Southshore and ganking grey hordies at Hillsbrad while their 70's level Southshore.

I play on a PvP server (well, strictly speaking, RPPvP, but no one really RPs...), and all I really care about in WoW is PvP (no interest in raiding etc.). I guess I would call my hunter my main. I just recently came back to WoW after not playing for about 2 years, and had a choice between leveling up either my hunter or warrior to play in battlegrounds and arenas with my (now level 70) guildmates. I chose the hunter mainly because (1) I'm quite comfortable with the class and (2) I'm not sure I really have the time to gear up my warrior to the point where he'd be competitive.
So, fast forward to the present: My hunter is now 64 and, while I really enjoy being so powerful in solo questing and pvp (cookie cutter BM build...) I just keep getting a hankering to play my warrior. There's just something about the warrior class--it just feels right for me to play. So, even though my hunter is, and probably always will be (even if I level up my warrior) more powerful, I think I really do enjoy my warrior alt more.

I have a high level Warlock, which I enjoy, but for different reasons than my lowbie Tankadin. The ability to help other players in almost any scenario is so much more fulfilling to me I guess, so although the Warlock allows me to see endgame content, which is cool - the pally allows me to enjoy any content, which is perhaps cooler. I agree with the above: go with your gut - it never lies!! I have my original toon (63 Belf Rogue) on ice, with no regrets. Cheers!

I've been playing a paladin for a long time now (well over 2 years), and never been anything but holy. At times I have become displeased with certain aspects of the class... but then that just pushes me to rediscover it's strengths.
I can safely say that it is, without a doubt, my favourite class. I am just so familiar with the vast array of things they can do, and how to actually perform them, that I could never imagine getting into bed permanently with another class. It's even gotten to the point where any new server I roll on; my first toon is a paladin. Regardless of what I want to do down the track on that server, at the very least, I know how to make a tonne of money on my paladin very very easily, and know that due the ability to perform all three group roles, if I choose to stick with him on that server, I will always be able to find a home.

My main is a 70 hunter, and I currently have 3 alts, a 20ish shammy, 20 mage, and 16 Pally. Right now, I have to say I am having a TON of fun with the Pally and will likely work hard to get him up to 70 and hopefully do some good tanking. My mage might be next, shammy is just gonna be a "I'm bored with everything else, might as well give the shammy a shot again" toon. LOL.

My main is a holy paladin, but I am still the kid who adored vampire styled games and thus my adoration has always stuck to my dearest first character, my gnome warlock.
Not saying that I don't like healing. Pressing 2 buttons and getting purple loot is always awesome. But I'm just pleased that whenever I feel like draining someone's life out I know I've got my warlock for it.

My main is a 70 undead rogue and i love her to death. But I am playing my Shaman alot and am having fun with it too. Everybody needs a healer!!

My main is a 70 Hunter and after 6 months of no one ever wanting me for an instance run EVER , I decided to roll a Priest.
So far, I'm having a ton more fun. Being able to tear 2 or 3 players apart in PvP then walk away with full health is very satisfying indeed.
Leveling definitely take more time what with having to drink after every few mob kills. But it'll be worth it when people are begging me to be their mana battery in Kara.
So far... lvl 52 Priest alt > 70 Hunter

Oh, this sad, sad story mirrors mine — I leveled a hunter to 70, ran all over the place, saw the whole wide (fake) world and had lots of fun killing things.
Then I leveled a warrior to 70 and I'm seeing all sorts of new places, places I've never seen before: the insides of dungeons. Being in a group and controlling the encounters is such as rush. I love trapping and kiting and laying out huge quantities of sustained ranged DPS, but being able to actually get groups for instances is even better.
Of course, if you REALLY want to be in charge of your own desiny, level a healer. Them healers can write their own meal tickets...

My main is my first, a 70 hunter. Everyone knows me by the hunter's name. Even when I'm on my priest or my lock, they use the hunter's name. I do find it hard, when a guildie says they need help and I'm on the priest, to hop onto the hunter. I know I need practice healing but the hunter is just so much fun to play. The priest will, eventually, get to 70 because you can't have too few healers. It would be very hard to run new content with the guild on the instead of the hunter, however, if it came to that.

I'm up to my... fifth main, and I can safely say that she's my fave. AoE tanking is the best thing ever, and in just a few patches Ret has gone from ridiculous to sublime. Just don't expect me to be a healbot, ever; two buttons are insufficient to entertain me, not when I've played a priest and druid as well. ><
Also, as a roleplayer, my blood knight's story has really been personally significant.

I started out playing a mage and really loved it. Then I brought up a tankadin and I loved it even more. My husband and I both officially changed our mains from DPSers to my tankadin and his priest. It's great, because we never need to find a tank and healer for runs.

My "main" is my Rogue, but I have 3 other level 70s as well. These days I would say my favorite character is my tankadin though. I play her far more than I play my Rogue and her gear is at about the same level now. In actuality, I think of them as "co-mains" now, because I honestly can't choose which one I would prefer to be my "main", at least in the sense of the word that I use.

My main is my favourite, but it took me three years of WoW to get there. It needed just that certain combination of race, class, looks and character to click for me.

my main is a warrior. i enjoyed leveling him up and doing bg's and raids and being up front in my groups in instances. then i got to the outlands...i never bothered to use shields since i was arms mostly and they did me no good since my 1h weapon skills were all at lvl 1. now everyone expects me to be protection spec and i hate protection. so i just say i am playing the way i want to play no the way you want or need me to play. back when i was a noob i didnt know what classes provided what in instances because i didn't know what that was either. i eventually got a shield and levled up my 1h axe skill but stayed arms. i think when i hit 70 (im 69 now) i will respec in protection once just so i can finish up the dungeon quests i have and get the gorehowl from kara. then i will go back to arms and just do bg's. when i think about i kind of wished i was a pussy and made a hunter as my main so maybe i will lvl up my lvl 22 hunter next and make him do raids as well has with my holy pally.

Shit, you know me. I spend most of my time in a Druid-emo fog (Fandral beats me, see the bruises? But I know he does it because I deserve it...) but I keep coming back to it anyway. Yay attachment to the character but not the actual class you play. :P

Oh yeah, I'm all about being torn over which character to play. I have HISTORY with my Druid, and it's not like I hate tanking. I rather enjoy it. But I have a hell of a lot of fun on my Hunter. It's nice to look at the game from a different angle, and I have to admit that it's fun seeing myself consistently at or near the top of the DPS charts. Plus, I mean. She a Dwarf female. Dwarf females rock the damn house down. Oh yeah, then there's my Blood Elf Paladin, who's a hell of a lot of fun to play and roleplay, plus I've always wanted to try AE Tanking Shattered Halls.
That said, I'm still hoping I enjoy the Death Knight class, since that's what I've always wanted to play.

My main is a 55 night elf hunter.
My favorite is a 23 orc hunter on another server.
But I don't have enough experience with other classes [maybe rogue and pally, but that's it] to really say which is most fun to play.
