Tuesday night live!
Live, from Blizzard H.Q., it's Tuesday night! The Blues (official Blizzard forum posters) have given us a few important late night news tidbits, including some new patch 2.4 news. However, they lack the comedy stylings of John Belushi in a bee suit:
- The World of Warcraft website at http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/ will be taken offline for about 90 minutes tonight, starting at midnight PST. There is no reason to suspect this will affect players in the game.
- On the PTR, Shattrath Flasks will soon work inside the Sunwell Plateau raid instance.
- Also on the PTR, the transporter to the Caverns of Time will soon require revered reputation instead of exalted.
Updated 12:16 a.m. EST: We are getting user reports of Canadians not being able to access either the game or the World of Warcraft website. However, Blizzard has yet to officially comment on this. We'll keep this post updated with anything more we learn.
Updated 12:33 p.m. EST: I heard your calls for help! I've written up an article titled Solving recent connection issues, which goes into some details about what you can do, including Blizzard's tech support phone number.

No offense, but from reading your posts you need to learn the difference between "affects" and "effects."
Adam Holisky Feb 12th 2008 10:38PM
Ah, corrected. Thanks.
Erika Feb 12th 2008 10:49PM
Also you put Flaks instead of Flasks.

Funny... I havent been able to Log onto WoW of the WoW website all night, i assumed the world server was down. Can anyone confirm this for me?
Mirina Feb 12th 2008 11:02PM
No issues pulling up the main WoW page for me...I'm interested as to why they are taking it down...but with my luck, they are upgrading the server or something and it's nothing exciting =\
Frostwolf Feb 12th 2008 11:25PM
Nope just tried again, all WoW sites are down for me (armory, forums, realm status, main page) and so are all the servers. Same goes for my two RL friends its down for them. Are you guys EU? Cause were Canadians logging onto US servers.
Fabio Feb 13th 2008 12:15AM
Toronto here and i can confirm that both websites and servers are down. It would be understandable if only we got informed in advance about it...instead on wowinsider they say that the site will be down for 90 mins at 12am PST but this will not affect playing the game...well the site is down at least since 7pm PST and it affects the players cause the servers are down too and there is no way to know what is going on. It showuldn't take much to add a few lines of explanation on wowinsider, i suppose...

Hello Fabio,
My girlfriend loves your hair.
Unfortunately, Blizzard has yet to comment on any other connectivity issues tonight. I will update the post however saying that we are getting user reports of connection issues from Canada.
Best,
Adam.

"If you notice strange happenings with your sever, you can always checkout the realm status forum on Blizzard's site. And of course, stay tuned to WoW Insider for the latest news."
We would check the status of the realms but guess what?...THE SITE IS DOWN!!! And about the 90 mins thing...I think they're running a bit late by more then just a few hours.
Fabio Feb 13th 2008 12:27AM
Thanks Adam. I'm lucky enough for not being that Fabio you are referring to, and yet my hair looks good ahahah
Tracert from here stops at arpanet. Ping does not work. Tried traceroute also from different locations such as LA, NY and DC and still no success. Are you able to access the wow websites and to play the game from where you are? Just so that i know it is a Canadian issue, which i don't think, given the traceroutes from the USA.
Thanks for your quick response, anyway.
Adam Holisky Feb 13th 2008 12:30AM
That is interesting. I'm actually located relatively close to Canada in Fargo, ND. The game is running fine for me, and I'm actually playing with people in both greater LA and DC right now. I'll put up a post in the Customer Service forums for you all, and hope that a blue replies.

What are "shattrath flasks"?
I hope they bump the reputation requirement down to Honored for the Caverns of Time. Revered is definitely an improvement over exhalted though. Who besides high end raiders is exhalted with Keepers of Time?
Matthew Rossi Feb 13th 2008 12:42AM
Just raided Tempest Keep, didn't seem to have any connectivity issues, I'm living in Edmonton, AB so if it's happening in Canada, it's not nationwide.
Fabio Feb 13th 2008 12:46AM
You can try this and see by yourself: http://www.washington.edu/networking/tools/traceroute?search_address=worldofwarcraft.com&max_hop_value=30&wait_time_value=2&number_query_value=3&number_out_value=3&Submit=Submit&.cgifields=number_query&.cgifields=wait_time&.cgifields=numeric_address&.cgifields=number_out&.cgifields=max_hop . Same from all the major USA cities through their university's routers. I'm not saying you are not playing, but the site and servers are obviously down for millions of people. It's just weird that nobody at Blizzard realized that. Thanks for your interest in the matter, Adam :-)

manalive Feb 13th 2008 1:11AM
Can't connect from Ottawa area, Sympatico says some of their networks are down.
Frostwolf Feb 13th 2008 1:16AM
The realms have been down for me (Montreal) since the came down for the weekly maintenance. On the plus side I'm winning some online poker. Oh please WoW come back online before I lose it all!
lego Feb 13th 2008 1:20AM
Here in Edmonton Alberta... can't log into servers or any WoW Site... have not been able to since early today after the patching was done... so that makes it about 10 hours downtime for me... friend not far away in another town can log easily... i have an imac... don't know if that has anything to do with it. i guess we will find out if Blizzard is on top of things. hopefully they are.
Frostwolf Feb 13th 2008 1:28AM
PC here so it seems to be more complicated than that.
mumbo Feb 13th 2008 1:44AM
Well not in Canada but Chicago, IL. All official WoW sites down all day and couldn't log in game.
