Incoming dragonhawk mounts?
I love new mounts. When the Shattered Sun Offensive rewards from patch 2.4 were first posted, I combed through the listing searching for some sort of new faction mount reward, and was disappointed not to find any. There ought to be a new mount in this patch somewhere, right? So imagine my surprise when opened up Mania's Arcania and saw a picture of some elf riding a dragonhawk!Apparently, there is no dragonhawk mount available for players to purchase just yet, but when you take the flight from Quel'Danas island back to the mainland, you fly on the back of a dr
agonhawk. Also, there is a dragonhawk-riding bombing quest you can run (which Mania says is kind of annoying). Finally, there are new enemy elves who ride dragonhawks, and new silvery-grey ones at that!If you ask me, it's just a matter of time until Blizzard puts dragonhawks into the game as the latest and greatest flying mount you can get. They'll probably make it an exalted Shattered Sun Offensive reward which is unlocked as that faction's presence on the island grows stronger, or else make it a rare drop from one of the bosses, like the bear mount from Zul'Aman. It would be a true shame indeed to taunt us with all this other dragonhawk riding if we couldn't also get one of our own, after all, and Blizzard isn't that mean... are they?

BillDoor Feb 13th 2008 4:22PM
Because the screenshot is actually a photoshop job?

That'd explain why when I went to buy the White Warstrider after 2.3 that it wasn't actually THERE in Live like it was on the PTR. Boo.

Just to be clear, the Amani War Bear, the 150 Riding Bear mount from ZA, is NOT a rare drop. You have to kill all 4 animal bosses in ZA within the time alloted in order to receive 1 (one) bear mount for the raid to give to someone.
This is the only way (since blizz fixed the halazzi chest bug) to receive a bear mount.

well if isnt so rare, how come i never see one?
Pzychotix Feb 13th 2008 4:35PM
Because guilds on your server aren't leet enough to get one for themselves?
My server (with some 10+ BT/Hyjal guilds) is flooded with them.
Bootsanator Feb 13th 2008 5:01PM
You've never seen one because ZA is HARD.
My guild's about halfway through T5 content, and, as far as I know, the farthest we've gone is killing bear and eagle. Now, given, we don't do ZA that often, and if we tried harder I'm sure we'd get farther, but, yeah. It's difficult, and doing it Timed all the way through is much more difficult.

One problem - what good is the mount if you can't use it in Azeroth?
Those mounts are bsed in Azeroth, but you can only fly in Outlands...
What would be the point of making that a new flying mount if you can't even use it in the zoen it originates from?
RogueJedi86 Feb 13th 2008 5:24PM
Because Sunwell Isle isn't on the same server as Eastern Kingdoms/Kalimdor. It's on the same server as Outland and the Draenei Lands. If you use WoWMapViewer, you can fly straight east from Outland for a while and arrive at the Blood Elf Lands.
They'd have to set up big invisible walls not too far out from the zone, and how do you deal with the border Ghostlands shares with EPL? When hitting the border, immediately zone you to the other side of the portal, dismounted?
Draelar Feb 13th 2008 4:37PM
@Mattarin: because it's hard to get, but the drop rate doesn't qualify it as rare ;)

The Dragonhawk has been flagged as a mount type in the game files since they first existed.
There is also a bit in the lore about how they are the preffered mount of High Elves, and are used in Dalaran.
Thus, I would wager we’ll see them as a faction mount in Wrath for the level 80s to fly around Northrend on.
Oh, and there’s still a black dragonhawk skin that, last time I checked, has not been seen in game yet. Just an aside... maybe we'll see that as a hunter pet in 2.4.

Don't forget...hippogryphs and bats are flightpath mounts that have never been made purchasable, so there is a precedent for similar Blizz-meaness regarding the dragonhawks.
cactusham Feb 13th 2008 4:55PM
Umm.. hippogryphs are purchasable...
I wish bats were =( My Undead would be much happier on a bat.
Retron Feb 13th 2008 5:20PM
Ah true, forgot about the Cenarian hippogryphs...for some reason they seem to be the only flying mounts not listed on this page http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/basics/mounts/flying.html
My undead lock would look great on a bat too...

I hope they don't make it a super-rare drop. There's too little variety in flying mounts as it is at the time of this writing. Just make it available generally, or, if you must, at Friendly with the Sunwell faction, but not Exalted. Not another rep grind.
