A message to those that ask me to group
Dear PUG Members,Recently you've asked me to group with you. This is cool, and I appreciate being wanted. It gives me that warm and fuzzy feeling inside. The same warm and fuzzy feeling you get after you've killed a million boars and are holding the Sword of a Thousand Truths. However, if you don't mind, could we go over a few dos and don'ts?
Here's what you should do:
- Do ask nicely if I have time to join your group.
- Do look to see if I'm using the LFG tool. If I'm not, I probably don't want to group.
- Do offer me at least 100 gold to run you through the Stockades. The two gold you're putting forth does not make up for the time it's going to take me to run you through.
- Do talk in English or some other real language. I'll even accept Klingon. Leet speak is not a language.
- Do ask if everyone is ready before MDing the boss to me.
- Do use Omen or KTM.
- Do use something more than auto-attack.
- Do not just invite me without saying something.
- Do not assume that because Vashj is at 2% I'll have time for your Deadmines group in 10 minutes.
- Do not ask if you can join my guild. Go look at WoW Insider's Guildwatch instead.
- Do not ask me for gold.
- Do not bother me when you see that I'm in Kara/Gruul/Mags/SSC/TK/MH/BT.
- Do not assume I know you are going AFK in the middle of a boss fight.
- Do not forget to stealth when you're going to sap a mob.
~ Adam.
P.S. If you have any more dos and don'ts you'd like to share, I await your reply. ;-)

"DO not message me asking my spec."
someone else here, I find it really rude when people just contact you to ask if you're a specific role. This is especially worse when people do it out of the blue when your'e not looking for a group. I hate when I get a whisper like, "u holy?" Especially when you're not telling me why or even checking if I'm busy. Jerks.

"DO read my LFG tag."
Like ing irks me more than when people don't read the flippin' message I post expressly for people looking for groups. For my priestess, it's usually something along the lines of: "1820 healing unbuffed. Blind invites promptly declined. Thanks!" See that whole 1820 healing unbuffed comment? Guess what - yes, I heal! So stop asking every time if I am Holy or Shadow. Did you know that I specifically asked that you not blind invite? No? Well, sorry, I'm not interested.
"DO write coherently."
I'm a roleplayer. I spent 95% of my time in-game when not raiding in-character. This is a roleplaying server. If your name is Lawltankadin and you're looking for a healer, make up for the stupid name by at least typing out your request. And don't berrate me for replying in character; you chose the roleplaying server, buddy, so deal with it.
In general, I don't mind getting geared with undergeared or slightly inexperience players. I like helping people and I get real kick out of healing in undergeared groups because of the reactions I get ("Omigawd, you're so good!" "Those shoulders/pants/mace/gloves are awesome! Where'd they come from?" "Wow, thanks for the heals! I don't think we could have done that without your help!"). Most people don't pick to be a healer because they like big numbers or have their epeens stroked, but we do love compliments. Howeer, don't assume that because we've been doing fine the entire run and downed the first boss without problems that you can just go ahead and pull the whole Blackrock the Inciter room without giving me any warning. Sure, it's a compliment of sorts to assume that I've got the skill and gear to keep you and everyone else alive, but I'd rather not see us all wipe horribly.

"Do look to see if I'm using the LFG tool. If I'm not, I probably don't want to group. "
There are many that may wish to group who are for whatever reason not using the LFG tool. If you need to fill a spot you look, first to the LFG tool then general channel than /who .
Assume nothing, not going outside the LFG tool, (when needed to find someone) to find people will result in the eventual disbanding of your group and who wants that.

Here's a couple I could think of:
DO use your LFG tag.
This saves me the trouble of having to ask a spec. I generally try to avoid that as the first question(I agree that it's pretty rude), but I'd rather ask first rather than find out later that our "tank" was actually a resto druid/holy pally/dps warrior.
DON'T assume the rogue's only job is dps. Depending upon the instance, I'm more than happy to sacrifice a little dps for stunlocking and cc.
DO try to be as polite as you can to your other group members. Even if that hunter/healer/whomever is inept, try to yell at the screen and not let your anger run down into your fingers.
DON'T tell someone to "learn to play their class." If you have general advice, try to be polite.
DO protect the healers. Save the squishes is my battle cry. Usually I can pull and hold agro for that moment or two a tank needs to catch up.
DON'T go near ANY npcs in instances that aren't at the beginning(i.e CoT). If another person pulls Medivh early or talks to Thrall early one more time....
DO use Omen, especially for tanks. It makes it easier for the rest of the party to watch everyone's agro, including their own.
And, finally,
DON'T lord your rating on the dps meters. While damage is all well and good, the goal is to kill the baddies together. Don't let purple pixel fever get to you!
