A few days ago it was reported on the
PTR that those dastardly evildoers of dastardly deeds (aka:
Warlocks)
managed to enslave Brutallus. These vile locks then took their newly enslaved demon out to play. And playing for a creature of pure darkness means letting them wreak havoc onto the unsuspecting citizens of the
Isle of Quel'Danas. I would have expected a hotfix to this almost immediately, and some form of public announcement that the bug has been fixed. However as of Saturday at 7 p.m. EST, there has been no such luck. Instead, Blizzard decided to hotfix the
Brutallus encounter inside
Sunwell Plateau, the new 25 man raid.
The hotfixes Blizzard has given the encounter are:
- An overall health decrease from 11 million to 10 million.
- Meteor Slash damage increased from 10,000 to 20,000, with the duration doubled. Meteor Slash will now hit you 100% of the time, no exceptions.
So an interesting hotfix for those of us trying him out. Less health, but a heck of a damage increase.
If you've had a chance to play with this encounter, what do you think of it?

so he's still enslavable, but the actual encounter got tweaking attention?
weird!

20,000? Is that before or after reduction? If its not reducable, is this basically intended to take out one member of your raid at a time? Does it only target the tank or what?
Hmmm, if its random, or if its an AoE ability, maybe in the ecounter your supposed to enslave him to make him meteor slash... himself? Idk. I'm trying to think of a reason blizzard wouldn't hotfix the enslave thing.

I'm not exactly sure. I'm hopeful that one of our readers will fill us in though. =)
My friends have said that the encounter is exponentially harder now, and nearly impossible. So I wouldn't be surprised to see another hotfix.

The 20 000 damage is actually spread across three people, all tanks. They have to stand almost on top of each other. Think back to the meteors from the Anubisath guys in AQ20.
Suzaku Feb 17th 2008 7:46AM
From what I've read, Meteor Slash's damage is divided amongst the target and the two other players nearest him, which should all be tanks.

as far as i understood it wasnt the raid boss brutallus that was enslavable, but the version of him visible on the island from outside the instance, there is a weakness in the blocking that can allow a warlock to get closer to him than intended and the "flavor" brutallus was not tagged "immune" to enslave
i could be wrong of course...considering in no way was i there (stupid queue for character copy)

From what I'm to understand, the attack does only 2000 damage at first, then places a debuff that increases fire damage by 75%. After a few stacks, it's hitting for 20000.
I could be wrong, though.

Anyone wondering why Warlocks are getting all the really cool mistakes in the PTRs?
I think there is a warlock on the team who decides what goes live on Public Test.
and he wants them to be all powerful...
Pzychotix Feb 17th 2008 7:21AM
So what happens when you enslave Brutallus and pit him against another Brutallus?
Suzaku Feb 17th 2008 7:43AM
It wasn't the raid Brutallus that was enslavable. Well, he may have been, but the one that was causing trouble was the duplicate that appears outside of the instance.
The Sunwell Plateau is more or less the same map as the Isle of Quel'Danas, and you can see inside of one from the other. Brutallus appears in the Dead Scar and can be seen both from within the raid (naturally), as well as from outside in the Isle, where players can proceed to an invisible wall at the Dead Scar, or fly overhead in a Daily bombing run quest.
After the enslaving incident, the outdoors Brutallus was almost immediately hotfixed to be unable to attack. It may have been with the last push, when they also added an invisible wall around the isle to prevent level 1 priests from swimming there.

It's a "Public Test Realm", not a "Live" realm, as such I see no reason why Blizzard should be expected to drag the developers in on their weekend to fix something ASAP.
However, were this discovered on a "Live" realm, I have no doubt it would have been hotfixed within hours.

Actually, blizzard put a sticky about this on the PTR forums, which qualifies perfectly well as an announcement.
As far as the outside , enslaved Brutalis, they added an invisible wall so warlocks can't get so close.
