My log off spot
Many of us that have played the game every day over the years have developed some habits of sort. One of the habits that I've found myself doing night after night is logging off in the same spot. For me, this spot is at the staff vendor in the Aldor section of Shattrath. I find myself logging off here almost every night since I hearth back to Shat when I'm done raiding, and then go and repair immediately (less I get yelled at for not being fully repaired).I can imagine that there are some better spots than others to log off at. In particular the PvP servers I'm sure pose certain pragmatic limitations on where you can disembark from the game. In the PvE world, I could (if I wanted to) log off anywhere in the wild. Save for the wandering aggressive mob, I would be just fine. However, I don't think this would be too good in a PvP environment.
Prior to BC being released, I found myself stationed in the tavern near the AH in Ironforge. How I miss my warm little corner of the world. Of course while leveling I always try to log off in an Inn to get that sweet rested bonus. The Inn at Honor Hold was home to all my toons for a long, long time after the release of Burning Crusade. And who hasn't spent their newbie time at the inn at Goldshire?
Where do you find yourself logging off at night? Is any place particularly good or bad?

When you have a flying mount, you can log out pretty much anywhere. I usually go to an Inn anyways, unless it's more than 20-seconds away.
While I was leveling my druid, I kept my 70 mage parked in the nearest town in case any Horde tried to show up and corpse camp me.

I log off every night in the war room of SW. Since hitting 70 a month ago, Ive spent the majority of my time pvping

I usually log out near the Scryer bank. Just outside it, and a little to the left of the door. I'm not sure why that's my spot, but I usually find myself at it whenever I decide to go to bed.

Left side of the scryers bank, on the little ledge, facing the wall, about half way up the wall standing on nothing. Call me OCD if you want. o.

I usually log off at the back of the ogrimmar inn between two of the large fires.

I usually just go to whichever inn's closest to me at the time. I don't have a flying mount and I've only been to shat on my main, so I just take convenience. But if I'm in a largely populated city, I'll try to find the most remote place in the inn [IE Stormwind by the bank... I'll go to the upper rooms] for the sake of lessening lag during load times, but honestly I don't see much of a difference.
It's usually like 3am when I log anyway, so I'd rather just get off quickly. But I still like to maximize my rest time.
You can get attacked while logged off? I don't see how that's possible. Unless you mean WHILE logging off, which is pretty easy just about anywhere, provided you're not standing in a camp full of mobs. o_o

You can get attacked when you log back in. And as your character appears in the game world before the loading screen disappears, there are a few seconds where your character is being attacked and you can't control it.
Felwrathe Feb 16th 2008 11:32PM
Ah, that makes more sense. But still, not hard to avoid.

You can't get attacked when you log off but sometimes logging off takes more than 20 seconds to "officially" happen. I think the same applies to the "Exit Now" option for Exit Game. You are out of the game but your character is still there for a little bit longer.
I've logged back in dead before while logging out not being attacked. It's quite confusing/frustrating but also very rare.

I'm running on a machine that, for now, only has 512mb of RAM so I typically avoid Shattrath unless I have pressing business there. My alternative has been to camp in Telaar by the flightmaster.
My sweet spot is the inn in Theramore, though. For a character until 60 it has just about everything I need, is reasonably located, and allows me to chat a bit with friends while I'm on the bird-pony.

I usually log off in an inn, outside a bank or next to a repair person, but always somewhere I can get rested exp. Even on my 70s, its just habit, plus I hate waiting 20 seconds.
What I don't get is why people seem to think that on PvP servers there is always someone lurking around every corner every second of the day who is going to jump you when you log back in. I play on a PvP server and I'm confident that no matter where I log out, the chances of me being ganked upon log in are almost nil.

I got so used to going to an inn for rested XP that I still try to park myself in an inn at level 70. In Nagrand, flying up to one of the floating islands and parking there is a nice place to come back to. Otherwise, in IF or SW, I find an open building and park there. Then, when I log on and try to remember what I was doing when I logged off, I don't feel that I'm in someone's way as I would be if I logged on at a mailbox, for instance.

On my onyx netherwing drake I park myself on top of the Aldor bank, the claws clinging to the edge. I like to think of myself as the 'gargoyle' of the bank. ^^

When I'm on one of my RP characters, I usually like to hop on a bed in an inn and /sleep before logging off. Other than that, I just log off where ever.
Calaana Feb 16th 2008 10:44PM
Upside down on my mount, over one of the floating islands on the Aldor tier.
.. What?
Corv Feb 16th 2008 11:20PM
I play a shaman and 99% of the time I just Astral Recall back to Shattrath. The bank is there and it's more convenient.
Thordred Feb 16th 2008 11:23PM
Well Shattrath seems to randomly crash the game for me at anything even approaching peak times, so my current logout spot is one of the floating islands above Telaar in Nagrand. It's close to Shatt, lots of nodes and warbead carrying ogres so I can log on and grind Kurenai rep if I only have 20 minutes to play. Just 320 more beads til I can get my talbuk mount!
Oh, and did I mention it's pretty :D

I have always logged off my main in Thunder Bluff, facing the mail box, pretty much 95% of all the days since I rolled him.
(And I always trained him up at the Hunter trainer in TB too, I'll do it 70-80 and I'll do it with the pet I had at 10.)
Lurxx Feb 17th 2008 11:50AM
Before BC came out, I always logged out in Ironforge's inn on the second floor. You can see the bank from there, and was fairly secluded.
Darque Feb 17th 2008 12:31AM
Since hitting 70, I log my main in the inn on Scryer's Terrace, or in close proximity at the mail box, ammo dealer or repair. My lower toons, I park at the nearest inn.
