Vis Maior once again adds another PTR first by slaying the
Eredar Twins,
Lady Sacrolash and
Grand Warlock Alythess (courtesy of
worldofraids). If you were fortunate enough, you were one of the 1300+ viewers of their
live stream when they killed the 4th boss of the new Sunwell raid instance. The loots were:
Band of Ruinous DelightGrip of MannorothShroud of Redeemed SoulsSin'dorei Pendant of ConquestEssence of the ImmortalsAccording to their Ustream schedule, they're at it again at 9:00 p.m.(EST) tonight.
Video of their kill inside.
The Ustream recorded video. This is very poor quality, but it's the only video of the fight out there. I'm sure a higher quality video will be coming soon.

I think Nihilum must be waiting for the real thing :)
Nogun Feb 17th 2008 10:50AM
Some may not be aware that thanks to Blizzard, EU PTR realms are 3 days behind and character copy is still disabled because of a full queue most of the day.
Even if able and willing, Nihilum can't try the Eredar Twins yet because the 1st Gate is still locked on the EU PTR realms. And this will most likely stay that way for more than the initial 3 day delay because the hardcore raiders that normally can take advantage of being the very first in the character copy queue ended up with masses of the more casual players that want to try out Magister's Terrace, quests and pvp.

The way sunwell works kind of makes a joke of world firsts. You could be the best guild in the world, but if the other people and high end raiding guilds on your server don't get into the event, then you won't be unlocking the later bosses early enough to get world firsts.
Nogun Feb 17th 2008 11:36AM
Perhaps the difficulty to unlock the gates isn't the same on every server. This is 100% speculation but they could just base it on server logs of the month pre 2.4 launch, if Realm X killed Illidan 8 times, Archimonde 12 times, Vashj and Kael each 6 times a week then the number of [Essence of the Immortals] required to open the gate could be higher than on Realm Y that only has one guild currently killing Illidan.
It wouldn't be an overly difficult mechanic to setup and only has to be announced after 2.4 goes live to avoid any attempts to exploit it.
PvE shouldn't become an E-sport but if server population and progress is completely ignored in this event there could be a lot disappointment and that's probably not a good risk to take keeping in mind many of us are waiting on new content since summer.

Note in the WorldOfRaids article it also says "After a GM deathtouched Brutallus," Vis Maior got to the Eredar Twins .. they are just wanting guilds to test that the bosses are tough enough.
If they are going to buff all the bosses this will still demand individual talented guilds even if the realm has unlocked them.

@4 Extremely unlikely scenario. This is going to be like the Gates of AQ, if you are low pop then to bad.
@5 I never said it wouldn't require good guilds. But if you are a good guild on a server with low number of t6 raiding guilds then forget it. I also doubt that Sunwell is going to be massively more difficult then MH/BT, so we are likely to see an "upset" with someone other then the big names getting a lot of world firsts (just like Vis Maior are doing on the PTR).
Zeplar Feb 17th 2008 11:05AM
So? You can brag that your server was the first to open the Gates of AQ, or the Sunwell. Server pride is for casuals, world-first pride is for raiders, giant 3130% mount is for PVP'ers.

links are fixed now thanks for the catch.
quickhealz Feb 17th 2008 12:05PM
i wouldn't put it past blizzard to give nihilum their own server to test on
Reaper Feb 19th 2008 2:45AM
Hah, just like they get given their attunes... thing with Nihilum they're all so far up their own a**e they're t**ts in real life. One day they're going to realise that WoW is just a game and that all of the casual players who have jobs/lives/families are better off than they are.
Da G Spot ! Feb 21st 2008 6:06AM
Actually they have endorsements so, I would assume they get (with all Endorsement) a 6 digit salary from that, Including free keyboards headsets, speakers, computers... etc, so say what you will about Nihilum but, they are pulling in more money then you... and they don't even need to leave their house. Thats what you get when your into pro gaming and competition.
