Shadow preists belong to arcane mages and other mana intensive dps. Not healers. Healers have great built in mana regen, dpsers do not.

Shadow priest belongs where the raid leader decide they do.On endurance fights, where even chaining pots isn't enough to keep your healer casting, a shadow priest is a god send.I've seen guild use shadow priest in a full-melee group on VR too. Those poundings aren't big damage, and a spriest can do some pretty healing on those.Don't put shadow priest into stereotyped groups, put them where they matter for you raid.

Especially after 2.4 spriests will be in caster DPS groups. Most of the time a spriest is being put in a healer group it is because the healers are tight wads and don't want to drink mana pots, or are just terrible and don't know how to utilize their in built mana regen. The exception being holy paladins.P.S. Using spriests in TK to VE melee means you either lack shamans/group healing priests, or are bad. Until you get to late T5/T6 spriests bring significant DPS and should not be sacrificing that DPS and mana return due to being threat capped thanks to VE healing melee. You may as well ask mages to bandage the rogues, it makes as much sense.
