I was thinking "Wow, this sure is an informative post" until you made the crack about Ret.Protip; Ret paladins are as valuable to the raid as you are, which is to say mid-range DPS that provides a DPS buff to the group. The difference between them and you is that they don't JUST provide a 2-3% dps buff to the people immediately around them, but improve the crit of the entire raid by another 3% on top of it.Maybe if you're going to cast the discerning eye of the classist around you should reconsider your role in the game - you're by far the most replacable class in the game, not to mention one of the least useful. Give us a ring when you're a prot warrior or a holy priest. Then maybe you'll have some clout when you run your stupid mouth.

I agree that ret pallies shouldn't just be dissed and considered a waste of raid space. In fact, as a hunter you should LOVE to have a ret paladin in your raid, as hunters have the BEST harmony with judgement of wisdom. On my last TK raid the 2 hunters we had both gained 10,000 mana each from just Loot Reaver! That's like twice their mana bar or something. So, no, hunters should be the LAST class to diss a ret paladin. An arms warrior would probably be the first.

Protip: Feel free to reign in the the rage there, mate, and read a little more carefully next time. He's talking about retribution aura, not ret paladins as a whole.

Woot!Glad your back, BRK.

@SpartiAre you classifying Hunters as "mid-range DPS that provides a DPS buff to the group?" WoW, talk about classist!L2sarcasm

sorry BRK. But seeing so many ret hate made me jump into the bandwagon almost automatically.

@ 11:God, Sparti. Way to deepen the credibility rut Ret Pallys already have. I think it's fairly clear that BRK's Ret crack was a good-natured jibe at Ret Pallys, the way most classes knock each other. Even if it wasn't, this response just makes his point, doesn't it? And responding with an even greater heap of hyperbole doesn't help anything.Yes, Ret is an unfairly maligned spec, especially in raids. The widely shared contempt for Ret is a little unfair and mostly uninformed. So inform, don't snark! Calling Hunters - whether you meant BM spec or not - one of the least useful classes out there is simply preposterous. It may be true that a Hunter is easily replaceable in the sense that there seem to be 10 Hunters for every 1 player of another class, but having a Hunter - whether in a 5 man or a raid - is pretty invaluable. It's not just because Hunters provide sustained DPS, or that they do it at less risk to themselves than melee classes (who I think get the short end of the stick in a lot of raid boss fights), but because of the buffs and crowd control they offer. Ret Pallys can bring a lot to a raid, but it's much easier to conceive of hitting up SSC without a Ret Pally than it is to do so without any Hunters. Oh yeah - nice column, too. The stuff on Lurker was interesting; I'm a Pally, so wasn't aware that there was a pet problem on that boss, but I'll bring this to our Hunters' attention next time we do Lurker.

Everyone, please remember that Ret pallies are so used to being the least-loved, most-maligned spec in the game that they have become uber-defensive about their own existence. Whether this is justified or not is up to others to debate. Hunters are, of course, the second most-maligned class in the game, often for good reason. But good hunters (such as those who are devoted readers of BRK's blog, whether they buy into the whole BM thing or not) are essential parts of any raid simply because they can do big damage and bring great flexibility. So, don't think of Sparti as simply the normal troll. Accept that being Ret for so has caused some permanent damge to Sparti's psyche, that he/she is suffering from small-man syndrome (you know — where the short guy at the bar always gets in fights to overcompensate for his shortness) and try to understand that this lashing out in anger is simply a cry for help.

"* Achieve or exceed the DPS of any other 'Pure' DPS class"ROFLMAO. Put down the shovel and stop digging. I don't think you know any hunters who actually know how to play their class. I see lots of hunters who top DPS charts on practically every fightJust random picks ...http://wowwebstats.com/d5j4xye2ed6v5?s=7745-7920http://wowwebstats.com/hkmy1hgucre1g?s=11667-11866http://wowwebstats.com/6yc1cbvab5mfq?s=5271-5477Are hunters topping DPS charts on every fight for every raid? Probably not. But I can find a hunter topping the charts for pretty much any fight. In the long run, a good player will beat a lousy player in DPS. Spec and class don't matter nearly as much as skill. If you are a good ret pally who can bring it, then I would love to have you in a raid. But to say hunters are not good DPS loses any creditability you may have had.

Query: if ret pallies weren't so defensive, would it be so much fun to mock them?
