2.4 PvP sets: Gold and rep requirements
There's a lot to get excited about in patch 2.4, without a doubt. A lot of raiders will be looking to the Sunwell to provide new content and those addicted to daily quests will certainly find a lot to do as well. I'll certainly appreciate these things, but there was one new item that piqued my interest as an altaholic: the new blue PvP sets available from reputation vendors. While a lot of players will likely overlook or outright dismiss these new sets, they are a godsend to someone, like me, that has a ton of high-level alts. While these sets are clearly geared towards PvP, they'll definitely help fill out some of my alts' PvE sets. Additionally, they'll make good starting sets for anyone that wants to get more involved in the arena or battlegrounds.
With that in mind, I've compiled some information about the new sets in an easy-to-read format. Hopefully the information below will help you plan ahead to gear out your alts as soon as 2.4 hits the live servers. Keep in mind that this information may change while on the PTR, but I'll do my best to keep it up to date. Click the image below for a larger, easy-to-read version of the spreadsheet.
The entire set will cost around 95 gold or so. That's 20 gold each for the chest, legs and head. 15 for the shoulders and 10 for the gloves. You can check out MMO-Champion or Wowhead for more pictures and to see the stats of all these sets as well.
I know that I'm already planning on decking out my resto Shaman with some new armor when the patch comes out. How about you? Any plans to take advantage of this new gear?
Update: As far as I can tell, the reputation requirements are all now "Honored" on the PTR. I've updated the spreadsheet to reflect this.

This new gear is going to be great for the alt I'm leveling at the moment. I like that once he gets to 70, he'll be able to get some starter resilience gear so he doesn't get instagibbed in BGs while I'm getting him Glad, or maybe by that time, Merciless gear from Honour.

Yeah, these things are godsends for alts, especially hybrid class alts. My Prot pally is focusing on spell damage and tanking stats with quest rewards, so any option that improves the amount of healing and ret gear I have for future respecs/situational usage is a good thing.
My only regret is that so much of it requires revered rep - grinding reps in pugs once was painful enough, I'm not doing it again for an alt.

I thought I read that in the newer build of the PTR all the requirements had been lowered to Honored? Hmm. Let me see if I can find the source...
makishima Feb 20th 2008 1:24PM
Actually if you look at the items he linked on WoWhead, they state you only need honored as well.
JParris Feb 20th 2008 3:22PM
Aha! I knew it! Thanks. It's a good change, imo. How many alts does anyone have that are revered with anything? LOL
matt Feb 20th 2008 4:15PM
Whoah, thanks for the tip! Initially, I think some of them required exalted with Keepers of Time. Ugh... how many times do I really want to run BM?
This makes them fit in perfectly as the little bit of intro help they're meant to be. Get this gear, BG/arena for a bit, and replace it all ASAP.

That's cool. I am a little disappointed, I had initially hoped these new rep rewards would be added to the old PvP faction vendors, since as it stands rep with Frostwolf/Defilers/etc. is all but completely useless.
inexodus Feb 20th 2008 2:46PM
I'm glad they didn't tie these to the old BG factions. If you play an alt to 70 you can easily get enough rep for most of these items along the way without any rep grinding. Especially if they reduce them to honored- I just hit 70 on my third toon and he had every heroic key at 70 with absolutely no rep grinding (Kara attunement quests helped). Nevermind the fact that you could buy the "old" arena set in far less time in BGs than it would take to grind them all up to revered.

I guess I just take issue with what basically amounts to giving away free gear, much less a whole set of it, for something unrelated to the reward. You're right in saying that it would be fairly easy to have access to most of this gear upon turning level 70, I'm just not sure why anyone would think that's a good thing.
At least if it were tied to the old BG reps A) there would be a point to those factions again and B) you'd be earning PvP gear through.. PvP. What a novel idea. It would also require at least some concentrated effort on *EARNING* the rewards instead of grinding to 70 and holding out your hand for free loot.
And to whoever said there should be epic rewards for exalted - there are *already* epic rewards for hitting exalted with outland factions.

There's nothing wrong with giving away free gear though. It's not like there's a fair gear check for PvP like there is for PvE. If I get 2-shot in a battleground when I hit 70 because I didn't think ahead and farm honor at 59 and 69 like I've started doing, I can't just go back and re-run easier stuff to get the gear to make the battlegrounds I want to do easier. I'd have to grind out season one gear while trying desperately to hide behind someone that would survive a few more shots than me.
This finally balances things out a little bit, since it's essentially entry-level gear.

I plan on picking up a set for an alternative spec to see how it plays in BGs and arenas.
InsaneAssault Feb 20th 2008 1:22PM
@3 Yeah I am seeing some discrepancy between sources for the rep needed. MMO-Champion had some screenshots that showed some armor parts needing revered while Wowhead showed only honor as the highest needed.
RogueJedi86 Feb 20th 2008 2:00PM
Under #3's post, you can hit the Reply button, instead of saying "@3". It helps #3(and everyone else) know you're replying directly to him. They've had this feature for about 6 months.
infection Feb 20th 2008 2:14PM
not everyone can see the reply button, like me. i made a post about that a while ago and there were many more that couldnt see it as well. a lot of us have to "search" for it by watching the mouse arrow turn into a hand.
standard ie 6 with 1280 rez, shouldnt have any problems seeing it. looks like the code needs to be worked on if you want everyone to use an option.
Remontoire Feb 20th 2008 1:24PM
I don't really need the gear, but I might pick it up just for fun and looks. I just hope they made a belt and boots to match the set. Knowing Blizzard...
Arnold Feb 20th 2008 1:33PM
I agree with the fact that revered rep with the factions is quite high, especially for an alt...
But as a druid, I do look forward to picking up the extra sets to try another playstyle.
maybesew Feb 20th 2008 1:35PM
Might not be a problem to some, but Alts sometimes suffer from having poor rep. Grinding to Revered for a blue item seems like a poor means of spending time.
Puh Feb 20th 2008 1:35PM
Wow...well that would have made my rogues honor grind significantly easier...
Get ready for an upgrade shammy!
...my name is Puh and I am an altaholic =P

Why don't they make some Epic stuff for Exalted too??
I'm already revered for every major BC Faction - and I already have the Full S1 set and Vindicator's set.
I'd be willing to grind out to Exalted if they added decent Lvl 70 Epics too. (And not that crap they currently offer for Exalted - I mean DECENT gear)
Aticus Feb 20th 2008 1:41PM
I agree that for Alts, these are wonderful! I'm leveling my Mage through Outland now. The four pieces would help a lot in getting ready for Wrath. Instead of grinding for epic S1 gear, now I'll be able to get these and only have to grind a few pieces of BG gear :-)
