Badges for dailies
Originally, there was only one way to obtain Badges of Justice: Heroic bosses. Now there are a couple more: Heroic daily quests as well as raids. Still, there hasn't been a way for the die-hard solo player to get their hands on some badges -- until now. The Shattered Sun Offensive (SSO), the new faction associated with patch 2.4, assigns many daily quests (to help you fill the new 25-dailies-a-day limit). Several of these quests reward you with Shattered Sun Supplies, a box which contains a high-level green item, and also -- coming to my point -- has a chance to contain a Badge of Justice.According to Wowhead, there are seven dailies that reward Shattered Sun Supplies. Some of them are apparently only available during certain phases of the SSO effort, so let's say you can do five of these per day. I don't have numbers on how often the supplies contain a Badge, but let's say it's a 50% chance, based on one comment that Badges are contained "more often than not." So on average, you could get 2.5 Badges per day just by doing these daily quests, which means 60 days to get one of those snazzy new 150-badge weapons. That's a long time, but arguably justified by the fact that these quests are probably pretty easy. Overall, this is, in my opinion, an excellent enhancement to the Badge system. Your thoughts?
Update: Suzaku questions my hypothetical 50% drop rate in a comment. Obviously, the impact of these badges will depend on how frequent they are, and we just don't have solid numbers on that yet. Not to mention it may change during testing.

Man reading these comments from QQing raiders really makes me wonder how sad in RL they really are.
I used to raid pre expansion and only to Gruul in the expansion but real life called.
Its just a game and people really need to stop using video games to compensate.

For Baynard and all the rest of youi QQing over 'welfare epics' and people getting nearly BT quality loot, there are few facts you nolifers need to get through your caffeeine and cheesypoof ridden skulls...
...its not just about the loot. Its about time and numbers. You don't know me, so I will forgive your ignorance of my personal situation and the situation of the countless other casuals that play the game. We have lives. We have jobs and we have families. We play this game a few hours a week when we can. Not everyone can devote their lives in 8 hour blocks to this game.
Also, not everyone is part of some giant guild having the 25 mans on farm because you can throw sheer numbers at it until you get it right. In my guild we have enough to raid Kara and ZA, and we are doing so every weekend (Kara at least) but what you l337 raiders seem to forget, there is gear requirements. So we casuals run instances (Regular and Heroic), do quests, and grind rep just so we can have good enough gear to get started in the 10 mans...
... and now when Blizzard wants to make it a little easier on us to get to further along, you whine and cry like little children because someone has nearly as good as a toy as you. Grow up.
So called hardcore raiders make up less than 10% of the players on WoW. So now go cry to your guildies and spam the forurms about how the casuals are getting welfare epics (BTW, I fail to see how grinding 100 badges for a decent pair of caster shoes is welfare), but take it away from here.

Hey, not all of us 'hard core raiders' hate this change. My guild is eagerly looking forward to some use out of these badges. Heck, I know guys in full T5 save for one piece that won't drop: now they can finally have a quality chestplate!

Is rly funny how ppl turn this up side down, is like said mathew, how in hell you think that running over 60days, calculate 2-3h a day in those daylies, will get the same rate of reward through badges that 2weeks of SSC/TK/KZ/ZA contempt, cmon. dropp the QQ, the fact that you can get T5/T6+badges rewards 50 times faster still makes the new buff to the badges reward a tinny improve to the casual players. I think banyard is just jelous that other ppl wear purple, and dont come to the time/effort/skill crapp, your guild may spent 2-3 weeks of learning top; so is not that funny; be glad you have the skill to do those encounters; those casual players w gear will only pay more repair bills, my tank in blue/greens gets more aggro than tanks in my guild w epix. skill>gear. ggkkthx

One comment, I note how the welfare epic apologists cant deal with having an opposing view get equal time. Note that only post that are anti-welfare epic have been grayed out.
What are you welfare epic guys afraid of?
Matthew Rossi Feb 25th 2008 4:44PM
Well, I dislike being sneered at by you, that might have something to do with it. If you're going to be arrogant and dismissive, try not to be surprised when people ignore you.

Welfare epics what are they? Epics not obtained threw DKP, instances, and long quest chains.
Why are they welfare? Hard core players seam to think the only way you deserve an epic, like them, is to roll on it.
Do these welfare epics just show up in my mailbox free? No. I had to work 2 weeks of hardcore BGs to earn 1 epic. In Kara I got 2 epics in the first 30 minutes and 3 boj.
So when you say welfare epics the instances are really the ones giving out the welfare epics.

I've opened about 10 of the boxes, and I've never gotten a badge from them. I don't think you have to worry about people getting 100's of badges using this method.

Really I think the developers have done a fantastic job of balancing the game and rewarding their player base. I myself like the new change since it will open up some new avenues for me to progress my own character irregardless of how much time I put in the game.
As to the recent childish jibs at casual players this is the way I see it.
If Casuals = welfare epics
Then Raiders = welfare content.
I say welfare content because who do you think pays for that content? The 5% that will experience it or 95% who won’t.
Personally I think the people who complain about casual players being able to progress their game pleasure should just be smart, close their mouths, grin from ear to ear, and say thank you and go about their business. Because if you loose your casual player base you will loose your end game content.
Let us just enjoy our symbiotic relationship and leave it at that.

I will cheerfully admit that the attunement being removed announcement came less than three weeks after I finished mine, and I QQ'd about it. It frustrated me, because as a recruit to a big guild I had to find ways to do it that were irritating, and I was in a generally cranky mood about the whole thing.
Then I got perspective.
The biggest thing about the attunements is that it forced people to see the content. I mean, try to find someone who will go back to Mags now that you don't have to. It's not easy. You'll likely see people skipping Kael/Vashj to just run smack into the Black Temple. But realistically? If they want to kill Illidan or Kil'Jaeden or Archimonde, they'll have to work too. I do think that to see endgame, you should have to put effort into it, or otherwise it wouldn't be as much fun.
But the whole 'casual welfare epix' stuff is just reaching silly-levels now. I don't raid to have better gear, I raid to see it all. I like the experience, not the phatomgpurpz. I'm a terrible pvper, and yet I have s2 just from saving up the points. I can see how that would steam a couple of Gladiators I know. But they have the title.
Things balance out, and frankly I wish more people would go and see the stuff in the Endgame. Don't make it super easy, because then there'd be no accomplishment to it, but the Black Temple storyline was incredibly well developed, and I still think Hyjal is one of the most fun instances in the game. I really hope that more people progress to seeing it, and the gear might just help that. (Mage itemization, on the other hand... mrglglglglglglg.)
But if you evaluate yourself on your gear alone, the first weeks of the expac must be soulcrushing rather than amazing. New Content > Purples every time, if you ask me. It shouldn't be easy, but it shouldn't be about the gear either.
