Insider Trader: The crafter's toolbench
Insider Trader is your inside line on making, selling, buying and using player-made products. This week's Insider Trader rounds up some of our favorite professions-related add-ons – and more importantly, it's a spot to share your favorites. I've learned that no matter how much time you spend poring over add-on sites and forum threads, as soon as you mention your latest cool find to a friend, he'll pop back with the name of another great new mod that you've never heard of. It's a fast-moving field, certainly.
As you browse the list of mods we've discussed in the past, be sure to scan all the comments for more ideas. Keep in mind, too, that some of the mods mentioned may have been replaced by newer, shinier mods or might even be defunct and no longer maintained. Read on for a taste of some of the sweet little tools that make life easier for every profession.
A good place to start looking for professions add-ons is last fall's Insider Trader look at some of the most downloaded professions-related mods at the time. Again, be sure to read the comments – just because some of them were most highly downloaded at the time of the original post doesn't mean they were or are still being updated by their authors.
Auctioneer, the king-daddy of auction statistics and item information mods, is a trader's dream come true ... Unless you're easily befuddled by its immense array of options, which can nudge it toward nightmarish if you're the only player you know who can't seem to figure it all out. Also included in this package is Enchantrix, the mod that breaks it all down for the enchanting profession. WoW Insider will review Auctioneer's features in the weeks and months ahead, bringing you a special series on the entire Auctioneer suite of functions.
Next, let's turn to Add-on Spotlight and see what its authors have to say about various tools for the trades.
Ace add-ons "Ace isn't a specific addon, but instead a code library on which addons are built -- and you can get countless different mods in Ace format."
Auction Filter Plus "It allows you to manipulate auction search results in ways that the default auction interface does not. How many times have you been to the auction house looking for silk cloth for example, typed 'silk cloth' in the search field and had results that included "bolts of silk cloth" as well?"
Possessions "For people who have multiple characters on the same server and especially characters devoted exclusively to storage, this add-on may send tingles of pleasure through your body that you have not previously experienced in an online game."
Cartographer "Cartographer is a map mod. In fact, from what I've seen, Cartographer is the map mod -- it provides every feature I've wanted for my various map needs, and looks rather pretty while doing so."
WoWEcon "Some people, myself included, believe that by going off of what items sell for, as opposed to what they're listed for, WoWEcon gives more accurate and realistic pricing data."
TBag "When I compared EngBags and Advanced Bags Plus a while back, a commenter named Purity commended TBag to me in the comments. Well, Purity, I'm glad you did, because ever since I installed TBag, I haven't looked back."
The big lists you've been looking for
For the nitty-gritty, professions-specific mods you're looking for, try browsing the tradeskills category of your favorite mod site -- for example, WoWInterface.com's professions page. There's a nice list of professions add-ons in a forum post by Elly over at worldofwar.net that I've seen referenced by a number of traders around the WoW community.
What do you think about these mods? And what mods do you use for crafting that you can't imagine doing without? Pull up a chair and head down to the comments section below to hobnob with your fellow craftspeople.
Insider Trader's Lisa Poisso tries to make regular housekeeping sweeps of her bloated add-on collection ... "tries" being the operative word.

I use and recommend WoWEcon myself, as well as use ArkInventory for bag management, and Skillet for a replacement tradeskill. With all three, it will track mats across characters, banks, and guild banks, and will tell you who has what mat and how many.
ArkInventory breaks down your bags into user-specified containers of unlimited number. It helps desperate those enchanting items or consumables from the rest of the riff raff.

I use Auctioneeer and Possessions and can definitely recommend those.
As far as crafting add-ons go I would also suggest looking at:
Advanced Trade Skill Window - This add-on enlarges the crafting window and allows you to create a queue for multiple tasks as well as keeps track of all the reagents you will need for all prospective item creations and more.
Recipe Book - This is another mod for player with multiple alts. This add-on keeps track of all the recipes your toons have and have not learned so when you mouse over a recipe in the AH, on a mob, or on a vendor you can tell whether or not your alts can use that recipe.

Baggins > All other bag mods.
As someone else mentioned, ATSW is amazing as well.

For Bag mods I cant recommend ArkInventory enough. It has a lot of features all rolled into one adon. It has a feature to make 1 bag, organize items in bag via status/quest item/soulbound/food/ammo etc etc et. It also lets you look at your bank, and your alts bags and bank. Pretty slick.

Baggins for bags
Skillet for trade skill frame > ATSW
Auctioneer for auction mule only

I would suggest skillet, an ace addon.

Much much better than advanced tradeskill window

What makes you say Skillet is better than ATSW? I tried switching to Skillet from ATSW last week and there were a few features missing. Maybe I set it up wrong?
I was trying to make some weird engineering item on my alt, and I wanted it to create a decent shopping list of what I needed to buy/get and I just couldn't get Skillet to do that. Entirely possible I set it up wrong or couldn't read it. I agree that the Skillet interface is much better in terms of sorting, hiding stuff you can't make, etc.

Try ARKinventory. Looks far superior to TBag. IMHO.

Baggins. Skillet. Armorcraft. Auctioneer. WoWEquip. Linkslist. I could go on.

I'm not sure if its just me, but I can't get WoWEcon to work. I downloaded the dmg (running a mac here) and started it up. Then it seems to try and "look(ing) for mod updates", but it doesn't do anything and then it shuts itself down, and I get a "this application quit unexpectedly" message. Suggestions?

Your link to Possessions is out dated. The original author has moved on. This link is to the current version, updated in December.

Skillet might be nice, but I'm not going to enable flash to download it from the site that the WoW Ace page points to. Any idea where else I can download it?

Wowace Updater allows control of all wowace mods, including descriptions of what they do, installing of them, and updating of the mods. I use is exclusively to control my wowace mods so as to keep the newest versions on my machine at all times.
I personally use WowEcon, Skillet, and ArkisRecipeList though with the recipe list I disable it when I'm not in pure professions mode due to resource use.

I love Auctioneer. It gets the job done and it's quick and simple to use.
As far as bags go, I'm all about Advanced Bags Plus. I've been using it since the original came out, what, three years ago? And save for the few times where it's not been updated, I've never stopped. It just gets better and better.
As for trade skills, I don't really use any except TradeJunkie & Skillet. TradeJunkie (http://wowui.incgamers.com/?p=mod&m=4866) solves my one major failure with tradeskilling: Figuring out when and where I can get my next recipes so that I'm not grinding out greens for that one elusive skillpoint. It's tidy, simple, and easy, and it makes my life hella easier.
As for Skillet, it has a nice clean interface and gets the job done.

WhoHas is an awesome little mod that will tell you how much you have of an item right in it's tooltip, across all characters.
