New PTR daily quest points to new alchemy or jewelcrafting possibilities

What exactly could this mean? Let's talk about it after the break.
The most obvious idea is that we will either be able to buy new gems directly from them, or else alchemists will be able to learn new types of transmutations. But with no new data on recipes or gems showing up in the patch data as of late aside from things already found on various vendors, we can't say for sure what this means. Will we learn how to turn Talasite into Living Rubies? Stars of Elune into Empyrean Sapphires? Will this be a whole new class of gems? My gut is that these may be recipes to convert blue gems into epic gems so that casual jewelcrafters can make the new trinkets, but if they're "gems thought lost to time," maybe it'll be all new stuff.
We'll have to see what happens when Mar'nah opens shop (or if someone finds new recipes or items related to gems or transmutation in the patch data somewhere), but in the meantime, what are your ideas for what this could mean?

"Lost in time" as in gems only available in Mount Hyjal raid?
Either of those guesses sound plausible to me.

Seeing Blizz is trying to get the best items available to casuals too, my bet is that you can indeed turn blue gems (or combinations of gems) into the gems that now only drop from 25 man raids. This way the Kara clearing casual jewelcrafter can still get his hands on those pretty gems and items.

Yeah, I'm betting on transmutes of blue gems to purple gems too. Either from her or as an alchemist recipe.
And Shaani is very close to my druid's Shani (http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Doomhammer&n=Shani)... I find that... amusing.
On the other hand I already have Shani's Chrysknife.

This would make a lot of sense even for the T6 raiders, they often end up short on the red and purple gems for their own gear so you rarely see them for AH on my realm. Transmutes would help them with socketing out their new gear when they have bad luck with gem drops.

That`s sounds good. I hope that this will be the epic gems from the Hyjal.
I could get my gems and trinkets necks for my Rouge :))

I'm just looking forward to a Seaspray Emerald -> Crimson Spinel transmute. One can hope, right? :)

They need to do something cool for alchemy anyway. Most of the other professions have some nice items that only they can use, all we get is Mad Alchemist Potion and some weak ass trinket. Granted, it's easy to make money off of alchemy and it's easy to get to 375, but come on, give us something that only we can use that's actually worth the effort. Mad alchemist potion is nothing but a cheaper version of something that already exist... Super Rejuvanation Potion.

I disagree about the Mad Alchemist's potion I enojy the chance to see it proc with more life or mana for me in a Kara or heroic boss run. It's saved me numerous times.
I do wish to see more recipes drop for tailors and alchemists since i am one. I hate the fact that I gave up herbs for tailoring. I would like more professions to work then pvp.
I am personally at the cusp of being a casual player or taking that step to hardcore player. I have real life friends, family and work that cause me not to step up.
Or maybe my guild/server sucks. :)

epic gems will also drop from sunwell and i'm told magtheridon now drops a gembag with a few in them as well (the new onyxia, it would seem.)
Baluki Feb 22nd 2008 11:50AM
Yea, that definitely would be nice if they made those high-level gems available to everyone. I'd love to get my hands on those nice new trinkets.

This is very exciting for me. All 3 of my 70's are alchemists, and another alt has Jewelcrafting. I can't wait to see what's in store. :)
Kadaan Feb 22nd 2008 2:03PM
Or maybe that's just where you get the spellhaste gems that showed up a long time ago? :P
Dave Feb 22nd 2008 2:23PM
I'd love to be able to shift gems from one color to another, or combine multiples of a lower-tier gem into an epic gem instead.
I can't even begin to imagine how much it's going to cost though. I assume that the 500g+ that guilds want to charge for raw BT/Hyjal gems are going to be considered waaaaaaaay overpriced to Blizzard and they'll take less than 10 blue gems to xmute into a purple, but what's a fair price? 3:1, 2:1, or 1 and some primals or something?
Kotathalas Feb 22nd 2008 3:15PM
C'mon Blizz!!! Alchemy...? JewelCrafting??? How did leather working become the bastard-child money-sink of all professions? Working all the way to 375/tribal (so I can have something raid-viable for my Moonkin) and still only half a set with not one pair of shoulders!!
Lets go SSO, bring me some patterns!!! :D
Rudolphe Feb 22nd 2008 3:51PM
I hate it Tandric, mainly because the proc is so random it's rarely something useful for me. I hit this and i get Elixir of Fortitude? Or Ironskin? Granted, i'm a Holy paladin maybe a prot paladin would like the Foritude, but Ironskin? Come on.
Jeremy Feb 22nd 2008 6:05PM
Right click the buff and drink another pot. It's still MUCH cheaper than elixirs [and it's an awesome rejuvenation potion].
