Forum post of the day: Really bad quests
Most of us have at least a couple of alt projects that we're working on. Once you've leveled to seventy you get a feeling for which quests are a breeze and which ones are painful. Arross of Thorium brotherhood started a thread entitled Really bad quests where players listed their least favorite quests. Some honorable mentions include:
- Arross of Thorium. "I have to say so far the worst quest I have ever had was Super Sticky in Un'goro Crater. The drop rate isn't bad, it's horrible."
- Shrosarias of Burning Blade, "Any quests having to do with murloc. Murlocs = evil."
- Ashcroft of Smolderthorn, "Zeth'Gor Must Burn! had me tearing my hair out by the roots. It was so very demoralizing to go from BG-topper to single-quest-dyer in one fell swoop."
- Arteree of Rivendare, "Almost every quest in Westfall."
- Etamalgren, "imo, any escort quests are the worst quests overall, except for the skettis daily and the nagrand escort."
Most of the bad quests listed include drop rates or something else that makes them exceptionally time-consuming. I have to say my least favorite quest is Shizz Work in Hellfire Peninsula. This is an easy quest to miss as it's over to the side of Thrallmar. I find it really gross to root through Felhound Poo. Yes, I know it's virtual poo, but that doesn't make it any less yucky. It's only slightly more yucky than A Rare Bean where you have to root through Talbuk poo. I love the Nagrand Cherries you get from the quest, but I'd rather keep my virtual hands clean. There are plenty of harder and more frustrating quests to do, but those are definitely the crappiest quests out there.
What's your least favorite quest?

Pristine Yeti Horns in Winterspring, for the abominable drop rate.
mcclary Feb 26th 2008 3:16PM
LOL! I just did this one on my alt the other day. I got my first horn going into the cave and I was naieve (sp) enough to think 'This isn't going to be that bad.'
30 minutes later (a full windfury weapon buff) I got the 2nd horn in the final room of the cave.

Yes. To this day, my questing buddy and I use this as the epitome of horrible drop rates by which all others are measured.

There is a yeti related quest that is far... far worse.
In the Hillsbrad Foothills there is a quest called Helcular's Revenge. This quest requires that you kill yetis until Helcular's Rod drops. A simple enough proposition, one that lead a friend and myself into the yeti cave.
After about 45 minutes of killing yetis I submitted a GM ticket. The thing hadn't dropped, and we had killed over 150 of the beasts. In fact, we ended up killing 350+ yetis before our first rod dropped. Yes, our first one.
At the time the rod was, like many quests, an unsharable drop. So, my friend got her rod, and we were left with the prospect of spending another three or four hours killing yetis to get another.
After an additional 270 yetis, and an assurance from a GM the quest was working as intended, a second rod dropped for us.
I never wanted to see another yeti again, ever.

after having to suffer through this quest the first time, I now go back and do it when I'm 70 for rep

He MUST play on a PvE server.
SweetPoison Feb 26th 2008 3:09PM
Haha, agreed.

PvP server ftw!
That said, I do hate escort quests.
With the possible exception of that goblin in the middle of Un'goro. Not sure if there are other escort quests like this, but the goblin actually follows you around, rather than following a predetermined path. Makes it much easier than protecting someone who likes taking a mob-heavy path.
Still not any easier on a PvP server though. ;)

i play on pve server and i have soloed all the escort quests unless they were in a dungeon and i am a warrior and had no heals and did just fine on the escort quests. the zeth gor quest must burn was easy for me too. i have done the westfall quests and they were easy. i did skip super sticky because of the drop rate.

Two words... Gorilla Sinew!
Lauren Feb 26th 2008 3:22PM
I recently helped my husband do the Gorilla Sinew quest... still took us over an hour.
Oldbear Feb 26th 2008 4:38PM
Drop in two kills for me the other day. But before you hang me up by my Gorilla Sinews - this was on my 7th character to take that quest - the second time through took about four hours plus 20mins of an Allie jack*** corpse camping me.

There are a few quests which have consistently given me a hard time with my toons.
- The last burning legion camp that must be destoryed in northern hellfire is ridiculous. The respawn timers and patrols make this quest very aggravating. I died probably 5 times each time I did the quest.
- A quest in northern feralas where you must gather 4 relics then go to a center statue to create something. The area is crowded with harpies. Very difficult to pull since they are casters and if you get too close you pull like 3, oh and there are patrols once again.
Those two get my vote.

The embalmer chain in Darkshire, for the sheer run-back-and-forthiness of it.
scott Feb 27th 2008 6:53AM
I didn't think of flying from darkshire to westfall and crossing the river to get to raven hill until my 3rd toon....

"The embalmer chain in Darkshire, for the sheer run-back-and-forthiness of it."
YES THIS ONE IS AWEFUL... nothing like a quick jog to westfall from sentinal hill to get the blood flowing.. then a quick run back and forth. Avoid this quest. Avoid it at all Costs
Frank Feb 26th 2008 6:18PM
hell YES.
madphilb Feb 27th 2008 12:29AM
But worth every second for the sheer fun of unleashing Stiches on the zone.
