Forum post of the day: Really bad quests
Most of us have at least a couple of alt projects that we're working on. Once you've leveled to seventy you get a feeling for which quests are a breeze and which ones are painful. Arross of Thorium brotherhood started a thread entitled Really bad quests where players listed their least favorite quests. Some honorable mentions include:
- Arross of Thorium. "I have to say so far the worst quest I have ever had was Super Sticky in Un'goro Crater. The drop rate isn't bad, it's horrible."
- Shrosarias of Burning Blade, "Any quests having to do with murloc. Murlocs = evil."
- Ashcroft of Smolderthorn, "Zeth'Gor Must Burn! had me tearing my hair out by the roots. It was so very demoralizing to go from BG-topper to single-quest-dyer in one fell swoop."
- Arteree of Rivendare, "Almost every quest in Westfall."
- Etamalgren, "imo, any escort quests are the worst quests overall, except for the skettis daily and the nagrand escort."
Most of the bad quests listed include drop rates or something else that makes them exceptionally time-consuming. I have to say my least favorite quest is Shizz Work in Hellfire Peninsula. This is an easy quest to miss as it's over to the side of Thrallmar. I find it really gross to root through Felhound Poo. Yes, I know it's virtual poo, but that doesn't make it any less yucky. It's only slightly more yucky than A Rare Bean where you have to root through Talbuk poo. I love the Nagrand Cherries you get from the quest, but I'd rather keep my virtual hands clean. There are plenty of harder and more frustrating quests to do, but those are definitely the crappiest quests out there.
What's your least favorite quest?

As a protection warrior at lvl 48, the freakin' troll quests in STV suck!!! Runners, trappers, ranged, frequent respawns... :(

"As a protection warrior at lvl 48, every single quest. Ever."
I fixed it for you.

Pretty much everything Un'goro Crater sucks.
OTOH, the most idiotic quest as to be A Rare Bean...WTF?

Like the civet coffee it is parodying, it's just gross.

Seems like every zone had at least one poo quest - oh well - fits their audience probably.

stanky debuff!

I dislike the "collect x drops" quests because they are isolating. They are painful to do with friends, and there always seem to be so many of them that when I level, I level alone.

Any quest involving a trip into ST is pretty high up there on the annoyance scale.

as someone who has a couple of toons in the late 40's early 50's atm, i couldn't agree more

Oronok's Tuber quest in Shadowmoon is perhaps the most annoying and unpleasant post-BC quest I can think of. Compared to this stinker, picking up turds in Nagrand is a cakewalk.

The damn tubers quest in SMV, find a tuber on the ground, find a live pig, protect the dang pig from dying, summon it to the tuber... ugh. Usually there were no live pigs near tubers, and those that were alive had just seconds to live by the time you got to them. I HATE that quest, but there's such great loots from that quest chain that it's a must for every character.

Agreed. The first time I did the quest chain, I had four other people with me, and were all excited to just go and knock out the entire chain in the evening. We were all looking forward to the rewards, making great progress, and them slammed into the tuber quest like a brick wall.
In the end, we all decided that we should do the tuber quests independently, and regroup the next day to finish the chain. We did, but it was a real downer for the evening.

For anyone looking to raise their first aid, beware of Triage. Trying to jump from one bed to another, not to mention random orders and rates. . . the single most frustrating quest ever!

Worst quest EVER in un'goro: Bloodpetals
The first time I leveled a character through un'goro, I ended up grinding a level and a half just killing these things trying to get the 15 bloodpetals.
2nd time around I just had a 70 hunter from my guild come out and just tear the place apart killing everything in sight so that the drop rates didn't seem that bad this time.
I'm surprised nobody mentioned the Blasted Lands here yet! Because out there, apparently only 1 in 20 basilisks has a brain...
Nick S Feb 26th 2008 3:41PM
omg the critter-parts collection quests... those gave me about half a level in critter-grinding alone.
why don't the vultures have gizzards?! give the vultures some friggin gizzards!
not to mention the constant stream of high-level allies passing to and from the dark portal and ganking me...
Cetha Feb 26th 2008 4:29PM
i now skip blasted lands completely..i hate those quests so much, i don't care that tehy have a nice reward

Oh god... this just reminded me of sometime back before they increased the drop rate of Raptor Hearts from Arathi highland raptors to 100%. I spent more than an hour in that damn place and killed literally hundreds of raptors to get those 12 raptor hearts. It was painful, so very painful.
The ecology of Azeroth is a geneticist's nightmare.

The Hellboar meat cleansing quest in hellfire peninsula.
First kill a boar and hope it drops meat.
Then try to purify the meat and see if it produces something edible.
It's like a drop within a drop quest. Which means it takes forever and I felt so deflated everytime I failed to purify the meat.
Oldbear Feb 26th 2008 4:45PM
It's the same as the Fel Slime sample quest - I had 25 samples that turned into 1 good sample - the real kick in the groin is that you have to go from Felwood to Under City to test your samples... so now I have 31 samples that I can't use or give away because I finally finished the quest...
Lizardking63 Feb 26th 2008 3:50PM
Pretty much any quest that involves swimming or going on to or into boats.
