Forum post of the day: Really bad quests
Most of us have at least a couple of alt projects that we're working on. Once you've leveled to seventy you get a feeling for which quests are a breeze and which ones are painful. Arross of Thorium brotherhood started a thread entitled Really bad quests where players listed their least favorite quests. Some honorable mentions include:
- Arross of Thorium. "I have to say so far the worst quest I have ever had was Super Sticky in Un'goro Crater. The drop rate isn't bad, it's horrible."
- Shrosarias of Burning Blade, "Any quests having to do with murloc. Murlocs = evil."
- Ashcroft of Smolderthorn, "Zeth'Gor Must Burn! had me tearing my hair out by the roots. It was so very demoralizing to go from BG-topper to single-quest-dyer in one fell swoop."
- Arteree of Rivendare, "Almost every quest in Westfall."
- Etamalgren, "imo, any escort quests are the worst quests overall, except for the skettis daily and the nagrand escort."
Most of the bad quests listed include drop rates or something else that makes them exceptionally time-consuming. I have to say my least favorite quest is Shizz Work in Hellfire Peninsula. This is an easy quest to miss as it's over to the side of Thrallmar. I find it really gross to root through Felhound Poo. Yes, I know it's virtual poo, but that doesn't make it any less yucky. It's only slightly more yucky than A Rare Bean where you have to root through Talbuk poo. I love the Nagrand Cherries you get from the quest, but I'd rather keep my virtual hands clean. There are plenty of harder and more frustrating quests to do, but those are definitely the crappiest quests out there.
What's your least favorite quest?

oh yea, what's that horrible darkshore quests where you have to get things out of sunken boats...night..mare
Jinvasha Feb 26th 2008 5:00PM
I remember that one quest in Darkshore. Tried to solo it. Failed. Failed repeatedly. So I called in a guildie who happened to be in the zone leveling as well and we tried to duo it. Of course, more failure met us with the grim iron claws of despair. I swear, I'm never doing that damn quest again!

Mazen's Behest - killing Swamp beasts in misty valley in the swamp of sorrows - THIS is the worst quest drop rate. Makes killing yetis for their hide look like a day in Stormwind Park

The quest in Nagrand where you help the goblin get the egg.. unless you have someone to res you repeatedly this quest is horrible.. i still have yet to complete on any of my 3 lvl 70s
oldmanstab Feb 26th 2008 4:11PM
UGH! i HATE that egg quest. saving it for when im 70 and have my flying mount...
Meira Feb 26th 2008 7:08PM
I second that! That's the only quest I simply can't stand! Not even tubers, sticky tars, poops and escorts can match that

The quest I hate the most is "Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme" (aka Nat Pagle Must Die!) which is required to get Artisan fishing. You have to be at 225 fishing for the quest, you have to get to the #@$*%%()&@ (a pain if you're Horde), and *then* you have to go to the far ends of Azeroth to catch the frippin' fish that you can only catch if you're on the quest.
Also, the Netherwing daily "A Slow Death", where you have to collect fel glands from creatures in Shadowmoon Valley, is pretty horrible, especially for a daily. The drop rate is pathetic, and there's no overlap with any other Netherwing quest.

I like the fishing quest. It's different enough to be interesting and it's not actually that hard, it's just take s time to do the travelling. I found it kind of relaxing...
If you are too impatient for the 225 fishing quest i recommend you forget about levelling your fishing to 375 haha.
Zumwalah Feb 26th 2008 3:51PM
that or the daily quest for Netherwing where you have to poison the meat...
Ixus Feb 26th 2008 5:13PM
murlocks.......that is all
Roxton Feb 26th 2008 6:10PM
I'm sorry, but any quest that involves murlocs is clearly made of win and awesome. Murlocs are quite possibly the finest of god's many and numerous creations. I don't care how crap the drop rate is on whatever it is you're farming - the sounds they make, especially in their death throes, make the game what it is. Level a mage until you can AoE grind them, and then do it. Only when you've heard the sound of 15 murlocs dying within a second of each other will you understand.
On the subject of mages, that quest in STV where you had to kill water elementals for their pitifully scarce bracers was painful - I was frost specced, and because they're immune to frost I had to kill them all with scorch and AM.

2 on my list come to mind, besides the hated escort quests-
1) STV - collect all the pages and turn them in - 16 different pages from all different mobs from across the zone - chews up bag space. I don't even bother trying to finish any more, just seel the pages as soon as I can.
2) Horde quest from Tarren Mill - Kill Yeti's in the cave until the Rod of something drops. 250 kills - went up 2 levels. I was a skinner, so made a boatload off of that. I won't go back though.

I believe the quest you're referring to is "Helcular's revenge". As all "find one extremely rare item"-quests, it's annoying, as you don't really feel that you're getting anywhere while grinding for it. However, in that particular case, watching Helcular wreak havoc upon Southshore in the followup is so worth it :)

Along this line in Hillsbrad - Humbert's Sword, that drops of the dwarves in Dun Garok. On one character, it drops off the first kill. On another character, me and a friend are killing dwarves for half an hour before we both ding and decide that's the time to call it quits. /shudder

Definitely the "I was a lot of things..." tuber quest in Shadow Moon that's a part of the Champion of the Naaru quest chain. Kill ravagers, protect the boars, and then have some jerk fly in and get the tuber in the area you've been keeping clear. Arrggh.

Hecular's Rod in TM, last time I did this I kept track and I killed 87 yetis before the stupid wand dropped.
scott Feb 27th 2008 6:53AM
My impression of drop quests is that there is some unknown variable on the drop rate of the quest item, possibly some oscillator which impacts it. I don't think short-term probability accounts for getting, say, 1 item in 20 mobs, then the other 5 in the next 6.
I have seen something similar mote farming in Nagrand - can go 60 minutes and get a 1/8 mote drop rate, then the next 30 minutes i get a 2/3 drop rate and 4 times the motes I did in the first hour.
Thoughts?
Meira Feb 27th 2008 7:18AM
I noticed that, too. Normally in quest drops, it beggins with awfull drop rates, then after x minutes (depends on the number of quest items: the less items, the more time it takes to kick effect) the drop rate increases big time. Maybe its me, maybe its a variable.

The quests in Duskwood that have you running between Darkshire and Raven Hill all the time. And it's a long run.
Also the whole Defias Brotherhood story arc, which keeps sending you to a diferent zone every quest.
Frank Feb 26th 2008 6:26PM
someone else above mentioned the darkshire-to-raven hill back and forth quests, and i say a loud YES to the both of you. i can't even count how many times you run from end to end of the map... and all waaaaay before you get a mount! arrrrghhhhhh!!!
