Hail Mandy: The Druid's Soulstone
We've all wiped in an instance from time to time. It is significantly easier to keep going when a rezzer has a self-rez ability so the group doesn't have to waste time running back to the instance. Soulstone and Reincarnation are wonderful things. The Druid's Rebirth spell can also be used occasionally to save the party the walk of shame back to the instance.
I call this maneuver the "Hail Mandy." I started doing this when I was multiboxing my Paladin and Druid. When the Paladin, who was tanking, died and the Druid was going down, I would cast rebirth on the Pally. Then after the Druid was killed and the mobs reset, I would accept the rez. This allowed me to raise both characters and start back up on my merry, dualboxing way- just like using a Soulstone.
I'm sure plenty of Druids know about this trick. I am surprised by how many do not. As a matter of fact, I've never seen it done before. I just thought I'd share it with you in case it's not already part of your repertoire. When you do this, though, make sure to tell your target what you're doing. It would be a waste for them to accept it just to wipe again and still have to run back to the instance. It'll save some time and make you look super slick.

One time someone did this on me during a prince wipe. Unfortunately I didn't realize I had a mod which auto-accepted rezzes, meaning I just ended up dieing again and wasting the brez.

God I dislike multiboxers - gets under my skin...
Nothing worse then trying to do a gathering quest and here comes someone with 7 characters behind him, jumping on all the resources before you can even get to one.

QQ Moar.
Go do some other quest while you wait.

Hm... seems there's no place to suggest news stories... but I figure someone would want to take a look at this:

It's about the future of gaming... seemingly from someone not very informed. They mention World of Warcraft, and spell it wrong the second time. :P
Anyway, on topic:
Very nice trick. Sounds like more fun than those do-it-all self-rezzing Shammies. :)

Not that it matters, but just thought I would point out that they actually didnt spell it wrong. They just accidentally called it "War of Warcraft"

I just love the way articles put the names of videogames in inverted commas - it just strike me as incredibly humorous for some reason, giving me mental images of frazzled corporate types squatting in front of CPUs and shrieking, "why do you taunt me?!" as they try frantically, and fruitlessly, to make it work.
Felwrathe Feb 26th 2008 5:21PM
@Aelfinn - Mispelling, calling it something other than what it is... same thing.
@Jinvasha - Totally. I imagine most news reporters to be those kinds of people that get confused when you tell them to right click.

@Dylan - Ah, so they do have one. Thanks.

Ah yes, good ol' Battle Rez.

I remember doing this a lot back when I was lvling my druid when the game first came out, and I did a ton of instances with friends.
Though, the one time that I kicked myself, I could tell we were going to wipe, so I threw my rez on the priest right before I died, he was like, "um, I was soul stoned." man I felt like such and idiot lol.
Felwrathe Feb 26th 2008 5:43PM
Better safe than sorry, no?
ThorinII Feb 27th 2008 10:07AM
Hey, soulstoned or not, you were on it and ready to help. Like Fel said, better safe than sorry. That walk of shame SUCKS!
Bradley Feb 26th 2008 4:41PM
I think you meant Reincarnation (or even Ankhing) instead of Ancestral Spirit in the first paragraph. Ancestral Spirit is the shammie's regular rez, not his self-rez.

I used to do it all the time, but the problem with the "make sure to tell your target what you're doing" part is that oftentimes you're casting Rebirth as you, yourself, are in the process of being downed by the boss, meaning that you have no time to tell them what's going on. I've had more than my fair share of Shaman, Paladin, and Priests accept in the middle of the wipe without thinking.
While it's a nice feeling knowing that you saved everyone the run back, it's incredibly frustrating when you know that you ALMOST saved everyone the run back, only to have Rezzer X botch it up by not thinking before accepting.

I've known about this trick for a long time, however the uses aren't that many since in most cases people "jump the button" and press accept before the combat ends, which basically just give them two times the repair cost mostly.
It is basically equal to a Soulstone though, but you might wanna make a separate "Soulstone" macro with the appropriate text just to avoid that kind of unpleasantry ^^;
(recently started reading WoWInsider, really great stuff coming up here I have to admit!)

just did this the other day actually in SLab
shadow priest died, wipe was imminent, threw rebirth on him, yelled on Vent to not accept it, group wiped, he accepted.
wipe prevented. :)
Combatc87 Feb 26th 2008 5:35PM
I do it if it's asked, but most of the time I don't because we usually have a soulstone up or an ankh.
Shumina Feb 26th 2008 5:46PM
Of if you foresee the death coming to your pally you could just Divine Intervention your drood and save yourself a repair cost for the pally. Saving two repairs actually.
