WoW Insider Show Episode 26: Badges, Blizzard and buffs
This past Saturday the WoW Insider Show welcomed Amanda Dean and Adam Holisky on, as well as myself and Turpster, for the 26th episode of our podcast on WoW Radio. Despite some lackluster, if I may say so, email from readers (you can send us some better emails at theshow@wow.com), we charged through and got a lot of good discussion done:
- We chatted about Amanda's hacked characters, and what a little name-dropping will get you from Blizzard (not much)
- We confronted whether all this new badge loot makes raiding worthless (surprise -- we decided it does not)
- We talked about all the new class changes on the PTR, with a special look at Shamans, and the Warlock change to Lifetap.
- We ran over what Rob Pardo said during the GDC Liveblog
- And finally, we wondered just what kind of player it takes to PuG with Adam

Was I the only one who couldn't hear Adam for longer than 15 seconds?

i can't believe it.
more QQ shaman talk, even from a resto!
maybe that random-class bg idea would open up some eyes :/

This was my first time listening to a WoW Insider podcast. After Mike kept going off on various things like the Shaman QQ, trying to compare WoW PvP to DotA (yeah... 4 abilities vs 40 makes it easy to play a WoW class you've never played before...,) Badge loot QQ, etc I won't be listening in again.
Turpster and Amanda were fun to listen to, and I have lots of respect for Amanda and not trying to pull some "do you know who I am?" card with her account being hacked. They should boot Mike and make their own show together.

Been a listener since episode one and I'm going to have to agree with Kadaan, Mike really made me not want to ever listen again. I don't know what happened, in episode 25 he was great but on Saturday's episode he seemed so bitter.
Mike, when things are messing you up take a lesson from Turpster and just let things flow and be carefree. You seemed stiff and angry, it took a lot from me just to keep listening, thank God Turpster and the rest of the crew was there.

Why does it take you guys so long to post the podcast? Most of the Wow radio podcasts are up the say day or the next day at the most. You guys take days to post it, why is that? It's one of my favorites but it's the one that I have to wait the longest for. I hope that you guys can get it posted the same day at some point.

It actually goes up fairly quickly (although please remember that the podcast is on Saturday, and that means Duncor works over the weekend to get it done).
These posts on WI are usually just a reminder that it's up (placed usually on Tuesday, so you'll have something to listen to during maintenance). The show, in my experience is usually up by Monday morning.

I've got a very random question I think would make for an interesting topic and/or mod. After listening to Amanda's dealings with Blizzard and their inability to return items after being hacked unless she gave them a list of her lost items - I had a sudden realization! Isn't this exactly what a mod like Possessions does? It essentially records every item on all your characters (even worn items and gold) so you can view/search for them from character to character.
This lead me to wonder - wouldn't it be possible then to simply use this type of mod to keep a record (written to a text file) of all your in-game items. This way - it would be a way to shove it down Blizzard's throat - should you get hacked - that these are ALL the items they should be restoring.
Something tells me Blizzard would still have a reason for not returning items EVEN with a list - but in theory - shouldn't this work?

I understand that this is only to remind us of it being up. My point is that it takes days to post it. I listen to 15+ podcasts and 99% of them are recorded and uploaded that same day. Why does it take so long for yours to go up? I am not complaining I love the show like I said it's one of the ones I look forward to each week. Take Casually Hardcore they record it on Thursday and an hour or so later its in my Itunes feed. I used to be able to listen to you live but my work times have changed and now I can't. It was just a question and I don't want it to seem like I am QQ over a podcast, I just want to hear it as soon as possible because I enjoy it so much. Thanks for the reply.

The way in which the Podcast is put together is a little bit different from CH since the hosts are all remote from eachother. So Duncor, who puts the podcast together, has to get sent and recieve each file from each host and then put them into the right order and levels and all that magic, he does it as fast as he can, and I'd hope that it is worth the wait! :P
Still, if you are bored in the meantime, check out TurpsterVision over at Massively.com!

Like Turps said, that's pretty much how it goes down.
The WoW Insider show is easily the most work on the producer. All of the hosts are in different locations, and while we could just post the straight-up live recording and have it up within a couple of hours, we'd rather use this method that, while much more time-consuming and work-intensive to put together, comes out with a superior quality product.
Had to giggle though. This process came about as a result of feedback stating that the WoW Insider Show's sound quality was being comprimised due to the unavoidable issues with Skype. Now we've fixed that issue, people complain that it takes too long and wonder why (despite repeated explanations). Can't have your cake and eat it guys :> Either you get superior sound quality, or you wait a couple of days. Your choice ;)
TB.

Thanks for the reply's. I guess that waiting for a better product is a better option. Thank you guys for caring enough about what you do to work so hard on it.

Thanks for listening to it!
