Breakfast Topic: Arena dreaming

I would love to see a map in Stormwind City. I picture it as something like the legendary tournament venues of the Medieval Knights. There would be banners all around it and an audience of noisy NPCs in the stands. In order to spice things up, it would be awesome to include environmental hazards like boiling oil or escapable, but painful pit traps. Also, if I were designing an Arena, players would be forced into combat more quickly, since the preparation areas would close one minute after the battle began.
It would never happen, but a girl can dream. If you could design a battleground for Arena combat, what would it look like? What new features would you add?

The ring of Valor in orgrimmar would be perfect for a new arena but Id say that an arena on a floating rock in like netherstorm or nagrand would be perfect
warlocks wouldnt be able to just sick their pet on somone and LoS all day
:D

Well I hate PvP (well doing it) so it isn’t my game. But I would like to have a spectator mode so I can watch them and maybe learn something from it.
If I could design a Battleground or Arena... Well I would love to have the Orgrimmar arena to be used for arena battles. Like a vid I recently watched have it with such things as tigers or something at the sides that can only attack if you go near them (chained to the sides maybe?) A bit like a miniature roman gladiator style fight I guess.
I ain't good at thinking up a dream BG/Arena since I’ve rarely been in them but at least it's a idea.

I think that's a pretty great idea Amanda, I don't know if I would "keep dreaming", but instead put it on the WoW suggestions forum.

i thinka great one wud be lots of small islands with water between, with little bridges or wreakage u can jump accros on
but lots of foliage to hide behind etc..
make it harder to start the fight, but horror to get away from
mattarin Feb 28th 2008 12:21PM
that would be a good idea but your name above your head would give you away if your trying to hide in a bush.

VERY good breakfast topic!
I have two arenas I'd love to see. (and yours sounded nothing short of fantastic)
Elwynn Forest
This is a simple one. It would feel like duel and would be very simplistic and ligth. Forest around and a grassy area where you meet up and fight. Not much room to run and hide.
Booty Bay
Bridges over water. You can fall down and get back up from the water with all the pros and cons of that. You could dive to get away to heal up or fall down when someone jumps from bridge to bridge and you aren't able to follow. I also just love the feeling of Booty Bay.

Well these all sounds great. But what i really wanna see is a arena with a real feel og dueling... audience and that kind of thing would be awesome.
A arena corvered with snow and on a mountain peak os my dream... with lots of old banners and tourches, almost a barbaric feel from Diablo 2 :)

I would love to see an arena based on the cage in Gadgetzan. Two teams enter! One team leaves!

Stormwind pvp is unlikely for a number of reasons.
Alchemistmerlin Feb 28th 2008 9:41AM
And those reasons are?

Gladiator Arena. No armor or pots, just weapons and skill on skill. That way the matches would be even more intense but also more accesible to those just getting in.
As for venues, Stockades. think of it, 5v5 but you have places to hide and ambush one another, spread out, hidden buff boxes in some cells, things like that.
Alterac Mountains, in a snowbound small arena, no where to hide. Molten Core, with environmental hazzards. Scarlet Cathedral, Dodging between columns.

My vote goes to the people that have suggested snowy areas. Like an Alterac Mountain area or something in IF or Winterspring. The cats would make a great addition.
But on another note. I would like to see them integrate a way for the lower levels to be able to play in arena. I have several buddies that would love to be able to play but still have not made it to 70. There could me multiple ways. Like a 19, 29, 39 and so forth. Or a level matching way of sorts. The collective average of the teams (would need to be nailed down to not allow a 69 into a lowbie team).
At the same time though, I kind of feel like Arena is a reward for reaching 70. But I sure would love to see a snowy arena setting.

Part of the problem, I think, with having a "spectator mode" is Vent. You would have spectators talking to their friends on vent, telling them where the opposing team's healer is hiding and things like that.

It would be sweet to have an arena that you fight on your mounts, you try to dismount or kill the other team. Like jousting but in the air. This seems more like a one-on-one type fight.
or have an arena that puts you in a woods that has very dense fog. So you can't see your target from the other side of the arena (i have a rogue...)
Kris Feb 28th 2008 9:52AM
The Elwyn Forest idea isn't that bad actually.
Both teams start in tents. The tents open to a lightly wooded area with a river running through the center of the map. A raised bridge connecting both sides in the center and stones to the left and right of it for alternate passage.
Kinda of a Robin Hood meets Little John scenario.

the ring of valor in org... or the arena in stv!!!! and can you forget 1k needles kids? or even felwood!

If I could add an arena it would be a large, wide open square with no LoS objects or platforms. I'm sick of crappy layouts messing up fights. Let it be about the players fighting, not who humps what better.
archangel723 Feb 28th 2008 10:34AM
My idea is a straight hallway with LOS objects only on the edges. This prevents casters from kiting endlessly around anything, which would clearly give them the advantage. It would also incorporate environmental hazards (spikes, flames, etc.) with safe places to stand. It may actually be better to flip flop where I have the safe places and the hazards so that there is a better opportunity to actually use the LOS of the objects on the side. Here is a link to the picture.

Add 3-5 new venues for season 4. They Cut and Paste whole parts of dungeons, whats so hard about a small areana?
Also, Specator Mode, Let me watch some random match in the arena bleachers while im waiting for my 10min 2v2 queue!
