My pipe dream
I'm one of those odd players who likes to play multiples of the same class. I've got a tauren, human, night elf and draenei warriors at 70 and to be honest, my human currently way out-gears them all. Not only does he sport T4/T5 level gear for tanking, his DPS gear is also at that level even though I rarely DPS with him. Now, this isn't a problem, exactly. It's not that I dislike having good gear for the content. It's that I hate playing my human.
When I first started playing World of Warcraft, I started a paladin, and then switched quickly to this warrior. I've been playing him on and off ever since, he's got close to 170 days played on him. I've come up with a personality for him (I wouldn't actually say I roleplay him so much as I emphasize my curmudegonly side when I play him... I like to roleplay, mind, but I don't really put enough effort into it) but while he's got a lot of sentimental attachment for me, his major flaw is that he's a human, and Blizzard gave humans the dumbest emotes and /silly jokes in the game.
Well, okay, a couple of towers is funny. But the rest really just doesn't work for me anymore after having played the other options. In fact, what I really want to do is play my 70 draenei warrior instead. The problem there is, while he's on the same server, he's nowhere near as well geared for the content my guild is doing, and it's hardly fair to ask them to gear up another warrior for me.
Yes, I realize this is a really minor problem. But since WotLK is promising us more cutomization in the form of dances and haircuts, my pipe dream is that they'd allow me to either pay to transfer my soulbound equipment between my level 70 toons or allow me to pay a similar fee to a server transfer to change my race. I know there are PvE and PvP balance issues to be considered here, and I got myself into this situation by playing all these characters to 70, so I don't ever expect to see it happen. But man, I'd really like it if it did.
What about you? What one ridiculous, you know it's never going to happen but you can't stop wishing it would dream do you hold dear for the game?

But, you'll be replacing the T4/T5 in the starting area of Northrend anyway, just pick up the warrior that you like playing with then =)

Switch to your draenei when WotLK hits. Gear reset, so...

Yeah, I know. But I'd like it so that, if I were playing my shaman at level 80 and decided I wanted to play my night elf, I could just switch gear between them. I know, I absolutely do know, that this will never happen.

Imagine: "Bind on Account" items. I'd be for it!

Changing a character's gender; nothing sucks worse than getting to 70 and realizing that you hate your character's casting animation or the way they run. Equally cosmetic but a little more likely than race-changing since it doesn't actually affect racial abilities or stats.
Tutamen Feb 28th 2008 5:44PM
That's not quite in the spirit of this article though, is it. ;) What if he gets to 80 and finds he would rather play the Human again...
Alas, i've recently found myself hacked. My pipedream is that they're able to make server backups for characters/gear. Even once a week at the restarts. I know it's possible to obtain a lot of gear in a week, but it'd save having to reenter the game naked while waiting a further few weeks for item reimbursement. (I've not even got access to my account yet Q_Q)

Pipe dream? That somehow Blizzard manages to give me something like 10 more hours to raid, so I'm not stuck just doing Kara up to Curator every weekend.
Slightly more possible ...
A third profession slot. I want to keep armorsmithing because my chest is marginally better than anything I'll get for a while, but I'd really like to make some fun engineering toys (and I'm not going to drop Mining -- all my toons are self-sufficient).

My silly never-going-to-happen dream? To somehow customize druid forms... different markings, colors, etc. It'd be re-skin hell, but I imagine alot of folks would dig it. Plus, looking at the same drood over and over is tedious. (Still not tedious enough to get me to stop playing the beloved fuzzballs, however.)
I'd also like to be able to name my mounts. Silly, I know. ;)

I never thought about druid form skins, but now that you've said it, I'm going to jump on that bandwagon.
Sneakstar Feb 28th 2008 6:04PM
I don't have a druid above level 20. My gf however does. And i reckon it would be really cool to have them customizable. It would be absolute hell for devs i agree. What about just having different looks for druids in their "sets" if you know what i mean. Currently a druid in full T6 looks the same in bear form as a 70 naked druid in bear form. Perhaps add an armour piece when you get 2+ of your T4, and have it different for T5 and T6? Like a chest piece or something, some mail armour? or a helm with spikes and crap? That wouldn't be SO hard on devs but might go some of the way to satisfying the lack of customisation. Also same could be done for PvP or Arena sets. you see a boomkin coming at you with glowing lightning bolts radiating off his shoulders or some such, you know you are in for a fight etc. I just think that some sort of representation in "forms" for the work you have done to gain gear is a good idea.

@3
But changing your gender DOES affect your stats. If you look at male NE hunters at level 70 vs female NE hunters at 70, you'll notice they have different base stats. All NE male hunters at 70 have the same base stats, and all NE female hunters have the same base stats, but those 2 sets differ. This is true for all races.
It may be minimal, but your stats do change based on your gender.
Chris Anthony Feb 28th 2008 9:21PM
I believe you're mistaken, sir. I don't have night elf hunters to compare, but a 70 male undead rogue has exactly the same base stats as a 70 female undead rogue.
Can you demonstrate the effect you're claiming, or is it hearsay?
zweitblom Feb 29th 2008 1:55AM
No it doesn't. There are no gender specific stats in WoW. ( http://www.wowwiki.com/Race )
Kasika Feb 28th 2008 5:54PM
I want the ability to DIE MY ARMOR/EQUIPMENT.
I had a full black/red Dragonstalker on my hunter back in the BWL days with a reskin of the game files (before they could ban you for it) and it looked AWESOME.
These days, having all the best gear makes you look like a clown.
Dave Feb 28th 2008 5:59PM
you have 3 warriors...
that's just weird. Seriously weird.
I absolutely don't understand the idea or motive behind multiples of the same class when you can just respec into whatever other roles you need to do. I really doubt Blizzard's gonna do much for you ever, when I think you're in a very very tiny minority.
They might let you have two specs you can choose from at-will (and maybe pay a small fee every time you switch) but I highly doubt they're going to cater to a wee tiny group of people who for whatever reason roll multiples of the same class for different racials.
Matthew Rossi Feb 28th 2008 6:12PM
I have more than three, actually. I have four at 70, one at 60, two in the fifties. Also four shamans, two at 70.
chewy01234 Feb 28th 2008 6:03PM
From http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/faq/characters.html
Does a character's gender have any effect on its stats?
No. Males and females are equally effective in all areas of the game.
Damon Feb 28th 2008 6:03PM
My pipe dream is that they release "Peace" servers where horde and alliance can work together. I say this because i've been having trouble getting instances together for awhile, and when i focus on the PvE game the fact that each server's population is basically halved for you bugs me.
Armath Feb 28th 2008 8:37PM
I would transfer to a server like that in an instant!
My other pipe dream is to have antlers in moonkin form. Maybe nice big moose antlers, or chunky caribou style antlers, but antlers! Night elf moonkins get 'em, so Tauren moonkins should get 'em, too!
JR Feb 29th 2008 6:43AM
Great idea. This would be the culmination of PvE: Alliance and Horde working together against the Burning Legion, Illidan, Scourge, whatever. I would transfer to this server without hesitation.
