No more attunement for Karazhan?
That's what the fine folks at MMO Champion are telling us, anway - on the PTR, the attunement process for Karazhan has been removed. Or more accurately, altered... in order to get into Kara, one person in the party has to have the Master's Key, making Karazhan more like Upper Blackrock Spire. The attunement process to date isn't horribly restrictive... run Shadow Labs, Arcatraz, Steam Vaults and then Black Morass with the proper quests and bang, you're keyed. I can see this coming in handy for newly 70 alts or guilds who are trying to run up to Karazhan at the same time, and it's clearly part of the process of opening up content that we saw when SSC and TK were opened up, or that we will see with Hyjal and the Black Temple in patch 2.4 as well.
On the other hand, is this just going to lead to groups running Kara without much grouping experience and then complaining when they have to start coordinating to run it? I'm not personally worried about that, but I try and anticipate these things. Eyonix comments on a thread discussing it that it wasn't about difficulty, but rather accessibility.
With Kara opening up like this, will we see more people pushing through to Sunwell faster? Is the patch signaling that Wrath of the Lich King may be closer than we think?

How about "Melter of Faces"
mattarin Feb 28th 2008 3:34PM
yes!!!! now i don't have to run those dumb quests for kara!!! im so happy!!!
you are retarded if you think this will signal that WotLK is closer then you think. it is still too early to tell. it will realease sometime in november or december since its winter and the game will be in a wintery area lol. makes sense right?
imparush Feb 28th 2008 6:19PM
ofc it will go long time they not just opening sunwell and then a month later wotlk will be out, then only very few peolpe will have killed all the boss
mattarin Feb 28th 2008 6:53PM
so you are saying that WotLK will be out a month after 2.4?
yeah right, that doesn't even give enough people time to try to do sunwell and kara without the attunement. 2.4 comes out in march maybe april so there is no way LK comes out before summer. that is way too early. there still isnt a cinematic trailer, which i look forward too, and they still have alot to do on the offical LK website. you are way to eager man. there will be atleast one or two more minor patches but they will be like 2.4.2 or something.

Now I'd like to see them open up the back door, even if the Opera event isn't beaten. Allow guilds who can start with Nightbane or Curator to do so. Yes... the first 4 bosses are loot pinatas for many groups, but if you don't *need* the loot or badges (less likely), allow groups to skip that first hour of the instance. Would be great.

Maiden and Attumen are optional, although I like the three badges and chance of the mount dropping.

"With Kara opening up like this, will we see more people pushing through to Sunwell faster?"
No, they will just die faster by attempting more difficult dungeons earlier .. ! :D

More mediocrity through forced equality. Gotta love our modern society, where everyone is special.
Rich Feb 28th 2008 3:46PM
Kaph, your special and unique like everyone else...
Actually I am really torn about this. Really, the people who are needing to getting attuned for Kara now are mostly alts. Sure some new players are but I think they are in the minority. Kara is about the only attunement that needs to stay, but its silly to have to do for each alt.
JParris Feb 28th 2008 3:47PM
I seriously doubt they ability to skip a few 5-mans and get right into the easiest 10-man in the game makes you special in any way.
ZA has never had any attunement. Do undergeared scrub groups try ZA? Sure. Do they get very far? Pffft no.
Theserene Feb 28th 2008 5:40PM
Everyone is a special little snowflake and you are never allowed to tell someone that actually, they really do suck.
fLUx Feb 28th 2008 3:50PM
Happy for it to be removed.
I think of 70s instances (where you can be a bad new 70 still with greens .......or a high level 70 with full epics), of trying to run a instance miles before the level recomendation, your not ready, and you are doomed to fail unless you really are experienced groupers.
So some newbie group running into Kara is doomed to fail, and PUGs are too, because if you dont finish in one night, thats it unless all the other 9 players wanna come with you again.
Too bad its too late for me, I've not got the masters key yet (I'm only 67).

I just got my Master's Key 3 days ago.

Jane Gray Feb 28th 2008 6:17PM
Yup finished my key two days ago. I guess I wont feel silly because I needed loot from the instances anyway.
niko Feb 28th 2008 4:22PM
exactly... same here.

Salty Feb 28th 2008 3:59PM
No problem here... I too busted to get my alts attuned. And I'll still gear-screen anyone who wants to join a raid. But I hope that they put the keyed door just inside the instance so that once you pop it for your raid ID you don't have to keep opening up the door for unkeyed players (like UBRS).
"Hey guys, sorry my mom made me do the dishes. Can one of you open the door?"
Calaana Feb 28th 2008 4:04PM
Attunement needed or no, I'm still going to have it as a requirement. It'll tell me you have the skills needed to work in a group setting and have put some effort into the job. Alts are excepted though, which strikes me as fair enough.
Netherscourge Feb 28th 2008 4:05PM
I don't care about BC dungeons anymore.
WOTLK makes it all seem retroactively obsolete. Might as well just farm honor for the S1 and upcomming S2 gear and relax until the next "Expansion to make all previous content obsolete" is released.
At least we had 2 years Pre-BC to get through all the Raid Dungeons (well, except Naxx). So running MC/Ony/BWL was doable and worthwhile. We also did not know that lvl 65+ Greens would replace all our T1 to T3 gear, so we figured we were gonan RULE OUTLANDS!. LOL - But now we KNOW.
Now, with WOTLK on the horizon, and 2.4 to keep us busy in the meantime, raiding is just downright pointless.
Save the raid-drama for WOTLK and hope Blizzard doesn't pump out another Copy-and-Paste Expansion too quickly after that.
AlmtyBob Feb 28th 2008 4:20PM
God you're a pathetic loot whore. Would you rather BC have not come out at all? Are you even going to do any 5-mans/raids in WotLK? Afterall, another expansion will come in a year or two.
Mindaika Feb 28th 2008 5:44PM
WotLK is only "on the horizon" in a limited sense. Current predictions say something like November, and I'm planning to play at least a couple times between now and then.
