Forum Post of the Day: PUG Player Archetypes
Once Patch 2.4 goes live, we will most likely be able to queue up for all of the major battlegrounds as premades. There will always be PUGs, since even the three battlegrounds that allow premade groups to play have them. Sideways of Korgath posted a thread on the official forums on the most annoying PUG player archetypes. The original list included:
- The Aloof - This guy appears to be guarding a flag or, but the chickens at the farm in AB are actually doing a better job. It's hard to say whether he's AFK, chatting in vent, or just didn't get enough sleep last night, but a guy caps the flag behind him and he doesn't even notice. If he's in gulch and the enemy flag carrier runs by, he just keeps on doing whatever it is he's doing as if nothing happened.
- The ADD - This type of player just can't live with less than continuous action. The concept of defending a flag is foreign and distasteful to him. Therefore if he is defending something and no enemies show up within 30 seconds, he moves on despite the fact that he is leaving the flag unguarded for a friendly neighborhood rogue to ninja.
- The Instance Mob - This type of player makes you swear aggro generation applied to players. He simply cannot understand why he hasn't been able to kill anything despite the fact that he put forth his best damage attacks against the protection specced shield wearing warrior that had 2 priests, a paladin, and a druid healing him. Much like I expect Rend Blackhand or Nefarian would, he attributes his ineffectiveness to inferior gear.
Readers chimed in with a number of their other annoyances:
- Mu of Burning Blade, "Captain Justice the Inescapable: If at any time you are below 50% hp, this is the paladin who will make a beeline straight for you and refuse to leave you alone until he can spam hammer of wrath on you for sick pally dps. He will ignore his teammates, the enemy flag carrier, even his own health bar - he will simply pursue you to the ends of the earth until one of you dies. Even if you get healed back to full. And if you do kill him then he will make a macro to target you every time he rezzes until he finally manages to stun you long enough for his team to zerg you down."
- Kardona of Chromaggus, "The Wannabe Ninja- Normally a class that can stealth wanders into the most well defended node and proceeds to wait as close as he can to the flag until its left defenceless. Proceeds to challenge the flag and then asks for back up"
- Plitoa of Silver Hand ""Picky Buff" - You jsut spent a reagent to buff a group of people. No one else in yoru class is raising a finger to buff your team. This guys (after you buff him with KINGS) will go to you and say "I want Wisdom" or "Wisdom plz". BEtter yet, these are the same guys who say, "Buff my pet with ____" or "Give me a SS!" You check them out and notice that they are not geared in any way to benefit from your buff."
I find the "hidden healer" to be particularly annoying. This is the player that hides in a tower or in some other obscure corner and spams healing spells on themselves. The hidden healer does nothing to help the team, but is often rated highest for healing in the battleground.
Who drives you crazy?

I laugh at the players that spam heals before the gates open and then don't touch the healy button the rest of the game. It's not going to stop us from reporting you afk later :)

I'm partial to the Bridge Club. You know, the guys who seem to WANT to be bottlenecked and never fight at the location of the thing they want to capture.

These are pretty funny, but true.
What about the "Straw Boss" - The guy in a BG that immediately begins to bark out directions how to "win", but gives the worst advise and strategy. Then become defensive when someone calls him out that his plan SUX. They will usually either begin to flame the person oppossing their strategies by calling them a "noob" or some other silly name in the form of Leet-Speak. We may even get the occassional one that will defend themselves by touting they have 6 level 70 characters on 3 other servers that were Grand Marshall pre-BC and maintain a 2400 arena rating currently....but, they will never reveal said characters names to be armoried or have some other excuse why we can't research such outlandish claims.

I find that guy to be the most annoying. Usually found in EotS. These seem to be his favorite phrases.
"Take !!"-right after someone calls for help at another tower.
"Towers are more important"-So, why aren't we defending the one's we have?
"I'm doing more damage than you are, so I'm right."-Yet, we are still losing, and they still have that tower.

My favorite version of this happens when we're running "premade" AVs and there's one PUG guy thrown in with us, who then proceeds to tell our team (who have 150+ straight undefeated games over 4 weeks and are OBVIOUSLY a premade...39 people from Nath...come on!) that we are not doing things correctly. ROFL

I thought this seemed a bit familiar. Forum post seeking BRAINZ

The non-resilience Ninny: People who come into BGs wondering why they die so quickly. Especially true for pve guilds running premades.
Green-Clad Wilbur: Uses BGs to gear alts from level 67 greens. To his credit, often works on defense. Unfortunately, goes down easier than a $2 whore.
One-Track Sam: The player that will keep on attacking the same node, even if it's defended by the entire opposing team, when there is another node open.
Sorry, not great names, feel free to change.

See, comments like this are a huge reason I avoid BGs. The few times my wife or guildmates are able to convince me to come into AB with them, I immediately hear comments about how much I suck because I'm not decked out in S1 Arena gear. I mean stuff like "oh great, look at the scrubs, we're never going to win." Never mind that I'm in crafted epics with +1000 shadow damage.
Good_Idea Mar 1st 2008 8:54PM
Cry more Sean, we're just having some fun pointing out archetypes, mine was people who don't know why they die so easy when they have no resilience. You know why you suck, so you weren't included there.
Btw, +1000 shadow damage doesn't mean anything if you can't live long enough to use it.

“General Patton.” The guy who fancies himself a master BG tactician, barks orders at everyone and takes credit for everything. If you win AV, it’s because General Patton won it for you. If you lose AV, it’s because you didn’t listen to General Patton.
The “belittler,” aka the guy who somehow managed to win 20 AVs in a row earlier today, but is losing the one he’s currently in and wants everyone to know about it. None of the other 39 people in AV have managed to be so lucky, but apparently that’s because “you all suck.”

"Road Warrior" The players in AB that insist on fighting 4-5 horde (tanks and healers) on the road indefinitely while the rest of the horde team 5 caps. Who needs to defend a flag when you can farm honor kills for 60 seconds?
"The Nice Guy" This is the leader that talks crap to everyone on their own team even while winning a match. Happened to me earlier today. We were rocking an AB while the "leader" flamed everyone in the raid for the whole match. Profanities and accusations ensued while I sat back and laughed to myself. What could possibly be making him so irritated about our victory? LoL
Epiny Feb 29th 2008 3:51PM
The Meter DPS Guy - Cares only about damage done and Honorable Kills. Will shout for a heal at anyone near by but refuses to stun/wing clip/hamstring the rogue/warrior on the nearby healer.
Mihn Feb 29th 2008 3:52PM
Over achieving Al's: The people who, after we have 3 nodes, want to go for a 4th. Sometimes it works, other times, it loses us 2 nodes.
Stabbyy Feb 29th 2008 6:49PM
You don't get credit for overheal in BGs, so your "hidden healer" doesn't make much sense, since presumably they wouldn't be taking any damage.
Zai Feb 29th 2008 4:01PM
"The ungrateful %&$@"- This is the guy who complains no matter what happens. Even if the team is doing something right for a change, he still has something to say. He is also the one that bitches when there aren't any mana biscuits or enough buffs to please him. Typical over afk marker.
Verit Feb 29th 2008 4:03PM
The straw boss is good. Every BG always has at least one guy who yells at the rest of us the worst strategies imaginable - whats sad is most people listen :(.
Want to know why the alliance lose so often? He's the reason.
Yelldon Feb 29th 2008 4:06PM
I like "The Single Minded Strategist"... the ones that that keep going to one spot to fight, because either they just want to farm honor, or they just want to kill something, even though their maybe anywhere from zero to two people guarding one of the other other flags and could easily take one over.
Silverrealm Feb 29th 2008 4:07PM
OMG I laughed so hard at this I almost vomitted! Thanks guys this was great comic relief... 3 nights of AB BG for badges... Alliance for AB just sucks... but now I can get my gear and move on!
Everyone of those players was out last night! It's maddening! I wish everyone was PVP in tehre and you could kill a friendly just for effect when they are being idiots!
Igor Feb 29th 2008 4:20PM
The Teacher - Whispers "buff plz" when my druid is in stealth following him and another rogue on a sneak mission to get the flag back in the middle of all of the opposing faction. When I don't break stealth asks: "Can you READ!"
"I broke a fingernail" Hero: Yells "where are my f***ing heals. you all suck" as he stands aside watching a priest get pummeled by warrior while stunlocked by rogue.
"your back just got stubbed twice" healer. Just stands there through the fight. When you survive by some miracle he heals you.
MightyIdle Feb 29th 2008 4:21PM
The Defeatist - The guy who starts screaming 'just let them win' as soon as the horde captures one flag in WSG. It's the same guy who wants to let the horde five cap as soon as they get 100 points ahead in AB.
I guess he figures we have no chance if we're not steamrolling from second one. That, or he's a horde spy sent to sap morale. 8)
