How to maximize your bag space with 20 slot bags
Our guild alliance's resident science and technology geek (and I mean that in a good way) linked us a somewhat confusing article yesterday. Apparently, scientists have figured out a way to store and retrieve empty space. Of course, a question naturally comes to mind upon hearing about this: How soon until I can buy my own bag of holding? But seriously, while I tend to be a bit of a pack rat in real life, I'm an even bigger pack rat in WoW. I still keep gear and quest rewards from 50 levels ago because they look cool. In addition, I play a Hunter (with a quiver), a Warlock (with a shard bag) and a Druid (with Cat Form, Bear Form, and healing gear on me at all times). As a result, I'm always on the lookout for ways to increase my bag space so I can fit in a little bit of loot once I'm stocked up on gear, consumables, reagents, and all the rest.
Luckily, I've found that upgrading your bag space doesn't have to break the bank or send you after waves of elite mobs that require 25-40 people to take down, and I'll share a few upgrading tips after the break.
To start, there's actually a 20-slot bag that you can get pretty much the moment you turn 70. It's called the Tattered Hexcloth Sack, and it's from Zul'Aman. However, do not despair at the Zul'Aman part. You don't need to be tricked out in Tier 4 and Karazhan gear to get it. In fact, you don't need to kill a single monster to get it, if you play your cards right.
The bag is from a quest called Promises, Promises. Getting the quest is simple: Just head up to the Ghostlands and talk to Budd Nedreck near the entrance of Zul'Aman (talking to Griftah first is optional, but it'll get you a few extra silver and some humorous quest dialogue). He'll give you a quest to retrieve his map from Nalorakk, the first boss of Zul'aman. But again, don't despair. The map itself doesn't drop off Nalorakk. It doesn't even drop off any of the nearby trash. Instead, it's a ground spawn right on his platform that can be picked up by an unlimited amount of people, as long as they have the proper quest.
So, once you decide you want the sack, if you can't get a group together to kill Nalorakk, you just have to find someone who has killed him since the last Zul'Aman reset. Once you've found that special person, have them make a raid group and invite you, then zone into Zul'Aman. You should now be in their Zul'aman instance, open front door and all.
From there, head in the gate past the gong, and keep right, going down 2 flights of stairs. You may want to watch out for a patrol of 2 trolls after the second flight, just in case it respawned. They have a very wide patrol range though, so you should have no problem slipping past them once they turn away. You'll want to head right again, into a grassy side area. Once you round the next corner, there will be a passage to the left. Watch out for the bears near that passage, not every group kills them all. Luckily, there will be no need to aggro them to get the map. Once you're through that passage, head up the stairs immediately on your right, then head up the stairs on your left. If you see a gong straight ahead, you've steered yourself correctly, and you are now on Nalorakk's platform. Head to your right, to a small raised platform, and the map itself should be on the a crate there. Grab the map, and head back out. Talk to Budd, and you'll have your bag, quick and easy. The hardest part is finding someone who'll let you use their partially cleared instance.
So now you've started your bag space expansion, what next? For the immediate future, your best bet are Primal Mooncloth Bags, created by Tailors. The problem is, it takes a LOT of work to create them. The 8 pieces of Primal Mooncloth alone will take over a month for some tailors to make (half a Month for Mooncloth specialized tailors). In addition, considering all the Primal Water and Primal Life needed to create the cloth, you'll be paying a hefty price for each piece.
However, if you don't have the gold, you still don't quite have to fall into despair. You'll just have to wait another month or two for 2.4 to hit the live servers, and you'll get two more relatively easy 20-slot bag options. The first is the Sun-Touched Satchel. For this one, you will have to kill a few mobs, as it drops in the Magister's Terrace. It appears it drops in normal mode off any mob though, so hopefully it shouldn't strain your resources too hard to go on a run or two. And hey, you'll probably be wanting to grind some Shattered Sun Offensive reputation in there anyway.
The next one's going to be a bit harder for most people to get, but it's still worth mentioning. Starting in 2.4, Magtheridon's getting a big facelift. Among other things, this comes a new piece of loot, the Pit Lord's Satchel. The great thing about the satchel is that it's non-unique. This means that as long as you can sweet-talk the other 24 members of your raid group, you can conceivably pick up a few of these and not have to worry about farming up Primal Mooncloth materials at all. Also, since Magtheridon's getting a lot easier next patch, a lot more people should have a shot at killing him and grabbing this bag.
So there you have it. We may not quite have bags of holding yet, but we can at least get a bit more space while adventuring Azeroth. So I say to you, go forth and multiply your bag space, and may you never again have to destroy another stack of Crisp Basilisk Urethras because of your dinky little bags.

Poor basilisks... going by Blizzards' standards of biology only 1 in 4 basilisks will actually have an urethra.
"is that basilisk crying?" "er... yeah, something like that..."

Could you hand me that glue over there, so I can reattach my ass? I seem to have laughed it right off just now.

Can't wait! I'm itching for another free 20 slotter!
Helden Mar 2nd 2008 8:58PM
What about lower lvl's?
Not all of us are LVL 70!
They need to create banks for players thats of similar size to the Guild Banks but don't have to be in a guild!! And be able to store money!
Charlie Taylor Mar 2nd 2008 9:45PM
you do realize that players have their own banks right? And why would the player banks need to store money? You can carry almost an infinite amount of money on your character without any penalty...
Helden Mar 2nd 2008 10:07PM
Yes i know you can have your own bank i just wish it was as big and expandable as a guild bank. And yes i know you can by bags!
And as for the gold thing, i would like to store money as i tend to waste it if i have it, just like real life :D
Derick Mar 2nd 2008 11:05PM
Charlie Taylor, I'm wondering if you took any math in High school.
or middle school...
Hell, I'm pretty sure I learned in the 3rd grade that infinity is nowhere near 214,748 gold, 36 silver, 48 copper.
That's the limit BTW.

Derick, I'm wondering if you ever took any english classes, in High school, or even middle school.
it's called EXAGGERATION. Yes, i know there is a limit, but give the amount of gold the limit is, it might as well BE infinite.
Seriously, way to act mature, insulting someone's education.
Oh, and before you yell at me for doing the same thing, I was using another literary device: sarcasm.

do you put bread in your dvd player?

Also possible to simply make your own guild.
Go to a major city, find a guild chart
Get 10 signatures
Kick all the players once the guild is made
Buy a guildbank
Got 5 tabs at the moment, you probably cannot afford it but at least one should be in your reach.
Helden Mar 3rd 2008 12:08AM
Its no so much as having endless amounts of money, if any of you read my comments its about me having to make a seperate trip to the bank before blowing my money on AH!
As for the space, i want it easily accessible in a bank. I dont want 7 toons that are all bank Alts!
It was just a thought that i would like some feedback, not an invitation to start WW3!
Kzin Mar 2nd 2008 11:52PM
what would ANY1 do with over 214,000 gold??? i don't even want to think about how many epic flying mounts that will buy
Obi-Habby Mar 3rd 2008 12:32AM
42.8 mounts
Amux Mar 3rd 2008 3:51AM
My two mainchars 70 rouge and 70 warrior (tank) has 2 epic flymounts. I am reaching now again 5k gold.
Hmm i think i will save the money.
For the bags, that sounds great i will get them. One from Magdi and one from the magister instance. As a tank i need them.

I was looking at bags at the AH and I just want to know is there such a huge amount of difference between the 20 slot bags and 18 that one can charge so much more? Sure when put together that is 12 less slot, but still! 400 g for 20 slots 32 g for 18. I know the mats are a fortune, as I suffer from the same problem with Riding crop (mats cost more than AH gets).
Aggrajag Mar 3rd 2008 6:19AM
As an enchanting cook Hunter, I've got 16-slot bags on my char, and every bank slot bought and using a 16-slot bag and one 20-slot enchanting bag. I still don't have enough room for my mats and all the tokens you gather for various quests. I've even got my own guildbank page but I save that for my engineer and gemcrafter as they share many materials. I think I'll have a nosey at "Promises, Promises..." tonight.

I got the ultimate storage device. I started a guild with only my toons as members. I then bought 3 guild bank tabs. Now all of my mats are in 1 central location and I dont have to worry about logging on and off toons to see who has what. Getting hacked might be UGLY though.
jst8 Mar 3rd 2008 9:50AM
I now run three "personal" guilds on one server, each with 3 bank tabs. Two of them are pure storage, with one bank alt as guild leader and sole member. The third guild has the rest of my alts as members, and stores the most commonly needed stuff: potions, food, drink, basic cloth and leathers and quest items (gotta save up them savage fronds and crypt fiend parts).
Fortunately I use a disenchanting-auctionhouse alt to bring in 100+gold per day, so I can pay for all the tabs...

Is it possible for a lvl 70 rogue to stealth in and grab this note in a new instance? or does Nalorakk have to die before it spawns.
