A Lament for the Qiraji mount

Unfortunately, ever since the Burning Crusade came out, my poor, poor bug has wasted away in the bank. I have been haunted by the thought of it being so lonely in there ever since. I can't even watch Starship Troopers without feeling nostalgia and a twinge of guilt to imagine good old bug-bug waiting forever to be ridden again. I honestly do think that if they ever removed the restrictions on my bug, I'd ride it everywhere. I suppose it might make a few Scarab Lords feel a bit less special about their ride-anywhere battle tanks, but... come on, they get the BLACK color, and that's totally unique enough by itself, right?
Unfortunately, it doesn't matter, since Bornakk chimed in on a forum post praising the bug mounts today to say that they don't plan to let you use the crystal outside the instance any time soon. He did suggest that you could use it to link in chat and taunt people who never had one. I say I'd rather ride mine. I'd even do a big old quest line or pay 2000 gold, like some of the people in the thread suggested.
On the plus side, he didn't say they'd NEVER remove the restriction, so maybe there's still hope. Hey, if nothing else, we'll probably be headed into Azjol-Nerub come Wrath of the Lich King, right? Considering we'll likely fight bugs there, maybe we'll be able to use our crystals in there, or at least tame some new mounts.

I could've sworn I saw one of these bugs once on Bonechewer outside of Hellfire Citadel.

Ummm, I was just told the story of how you got these mounts today - sounds awesome - but could you clue the n00bs here in on what the restriction is and why you can't ever use it again?

You can only use them in AQ40. They don't work outside of the instance, except the black one. But there's only one per server of those..

It's not one per server, anyone who had the Scepter and bangs the gong within 10 hours of the first person to do so gets one.
You can still get these if you're prepared to transfer to a server with closed gates (something of a rarity) and back again.

Actually I think we opened the AQ gate yesterday on the last server to do so - Misha. From what I understand all new servers will have the gates already opened.
So if you wanted the legendary mount, I think you're SOL. :)

Crazy, just yesterday I posted on the Dunemaul realm forums too see if anyone would be interested in a AQ run.
Not only was C'thun the funnest boss fight I've ever had in this game, but I'm like, 500 rep away from exalted with Brood, and it kinda ..bugs me that I'll probably never even get it.

Some of the positions that Blizzard is taking on the old world stuff is kinda... silly.
Attunements are being bagged left and right for TBC stuff but none have been lifted on any of the old stuff. Then there is the AQ Qirajii mounts and the 225-300 profession mats.

I'm pretty sure they have the AQ gates open automatically on all the new servers.
BWL attunement is pretty easy (and unnecessary if you don't mind fighting through a bit of UBRS). I don't even remember what you have to do for MC, but I'm pretty sure you still need to do the long questline to get in to see Onyxia.

I'm sure we'll see some of the classic bug models in Northrend, but the Nerubians are mostly arachnid-based, whereas the Qiraji are insect-based. That said, I really want THIS as a flying mount: http://www.wowhead.com/?screenshot=view&1.15509#50878
I just hope it doesn't have that constant shimmering sound that so many of the bugs have.

Seriously, I believe that if anyone completes the Scepter of the Shifting Sands quest line (http://www.wowwiki.com/The_Scepter_of_the_Shifting_Sands_quest_chain) they should be able to ride their bugs outside of AQ40, regardless of whether the gates are already open. That quest series is INTENSE! (it's also my all time favorite)

Why not have a "heroic" mode to all our old instances and raids? lol I would kill for a level 70+ Deadmines... Though a level 70 AQ40 would be soo sweet, from the videos I saw of the opening of the gate it must've been EPIX !

Personally, I just wish they worked outdoors in Silithus, or even the area behind the Scarab gate. I don't expect to get to use it all over the world, but it was fun to zip around on those things and nowadays that first trash mob makes it impossible to ever take your bug for a spin. :(

I just got a new fever to farm for rare mounts and non-combat pets (WotLK and lvling to 80 fever), and this mount has caught my attention. So if I were to complete the whole questline on my server (Sargeras, one of the oldest, I saw the gates open live on my server :D) Would I be able to transfer to any servers where this has not been completed, wait for the war effort to finish, and then ring the gong? J/w! Thanks!
