Village Voice talks with WoW adult film producer Dez
With over 10 million people enjoying World of Warcraft every day, there are many different sub cultures that have sprung up in the game. There are guilds based on religious fundamentals, democratic principals, corporate structure, and any other type of social grouping and cause you can think of. One of the more interesting social phenomena that has popped up is the adult orientated content.Of course this content is not produced by Blizzard, and based on legal action mentioned in the article, they don't want their name attached to this content. And that is completely within their right to do so. In fact, it's a smart move for a company that wants to encourage people of all ages to play their games. However, Blizzard's objections to the subject matter have not stopped adult film producer Dez from talking with the Village Voice's Bonnie Ruberg about his film series.
Read on after the break for a review of the interview and further thoughts.
The Village Voice (NSFW) sits down with Whorelore: Swords, Sorcery, and Sex producer Dez and talks to him about the popular internet erotica he's created. The article covers many different topics of his show, from the production quality of the episodes, to the recruitment of new talent.
It's interesting to note the recent name change of the productions. Last year the erotica was called "World of Whorecraft." However based on legal action taken by Blizzard (or at least strongly hinted at the in the article), the name of the production is now "Whorelore."
In the interview, Dez talks about the production values. Indeed, some of the productions are better done than some cable TV shows. Dez tells about a time that they rented a castle just to shot an episode, and how there are large swaths of content that are not related to the erotica at all, but purely for cinematic and dramatic purposes. Acting is something they do.
Dez also mentions a new talent that he's hired. Apparently a female actress who enjoys World of Warcraft got a hold of him and is now going to be appearing in future episodes of his.
All in all the article is a good read for those interested in this particular sub culture of the World of Warcraft.
I'm interested to know, what do you think of Whorelore?

Any concerns you might have readers under 18? Or perhaps their parents?
Adam Holisky Mar 3rd 2008 4:44PM
Hello anonymous and others out there.
Indeed, I do have concern for the under 18 crowd. That is why I took care when writing this article. I took the following steps to insure that no adult content was placed on the front page of the site:
- The word "whore" or any permutation of it does not appear above the break.
- The only word that hints at mature subject mater is the word "adult". I have used this word before too, in an article I wrote about adult's only servers.
- There is no mention of what the article is about above the break.
- I do not provide links to the adult website
- I use a generic picture representing the Village Voice
- The opening paragraphs were made as dull and 'scientific' as possible. There are no flashy images or content as is located on the main page for the Village Voice.
This story was covered by a major national publication, concerns World of Warcraft, and deserved to be presented in a delicate manner, which I feel was accomplished.

thats just too funny

Some of the images in the Village Voice's gallery with the article contain nudity. You may at least want to mark the link with a "NSFW" tag.
Adam Holisky Mar 3rd 2008 4:45PM
Hi Sean,
Thanks for letting me know. It appears Village Voice changed their site since I wrote the article earlier this morning. Updating post with a NSFW tage.
Best,
Adam.

I find it interesting to hear about the various sub-cultures out in the World of Warcraft. 10 million subscribers is a lot of people, that's beyond a "community" of MMORPG players. It's evolved into a society that is rich in culture. Good or bad, sinful or not, it's a huge virtual world (of warcraft) out there and I'm always interested in hearing about new things like this.

lol the article is a good read,,,, especially the parts with boobies. Yea WoW has become a phenomenon that it even fans have been producing adult films somewhat based on it.

I'm an avid WoWer and a big fan of the Whorecraft stuff. It's kind of neat, seeing how somebody took the time to incorporate Warcraft(ish) into porn. It really is all done with a wink and a nod to the gamers. I'm trying to collect all the episodes.
zymry Mar 3rd 2008 5:35PM
I will be the first to admit to having seen them. I'm a red (and maple syrup) blooded Canadian above the age of consent and was curious. The production values are as solid in my opinion as some of the bigger adult film production studios with similar content (lady of the rings 1 and 2 by Private Movies) and much better than some others. As to the acting and dialogue , well they are adult films so they won't ever be as great as hollywood blockbusters but they are sure above passable. The choreography is amazing, the costuming and props are great and well done. The special effects, well he admits they are low grade.
Rakah Mar 3rd 2008 5:40PM
This should never be on this website and I'm not sure why this is posted here......This is about porn,, and has no place here. You're encouraging people to go to this filthy site and I will be making sure you never blog here again.
Crypt King Mar 3rd 2008 5:48PM
Dude, really get over yourself you self righteous prick. It's about WoW related genre news so get bent. Nice threat there too, will you come to his house now and beat him up? You and all the other morality police need to GTFO of other peoples lives.
Rakah Mar 3rd 2008 5:54PM
No, I just found my son looking at this site and noticed this article...good thing too, because when i went to the link I saw half naked women in erotic poses. Now I have my pc set so my son is blocked from this junk, but somehow this got passed, and would never suspect a gaming site to post an article about amatuers parading around pretending to be characters in the game.
Just because its imitating wow, doesn't mean its news worthy.....especially not this porn junk. The blogger is an idiot if he thinks he can justify why he thought this was important.
Crypt King Mar 3rd 2008 6:04PM
Oh god no, NOT NUDITY ON THE INTERNET? Oh no little Johnny might see a naked human being or no sex is bad and he's scard for life!!
It's just as much as news as the stupid Toyota truck commercial especially when it involves legal proceedings by Blizzard. Raise your kid how you want, but stay the fuck out of everyone elses lives. Your overreaction is truly pathetic and stinks of knee jerk right wing conservatism of the "I don't like it and I think it's bad so no one can ever look at it," bullshit.
You're an Idiot to think your view is the only view.
Rakah Mar 3rd 2008 6:13PM
You want porn, go look at porn. people come to this site for the game. It's quite obvious you're not an adult with kids. Your opinion is fine how you view about your "whorecraft", but if this stays up, I won't be coming to this site again.
This has no place here period.
Bill Mar 3rd 2008 6:24PM
I don't think _either_ of your responses are appropriate in this forum.
Rakah, the link is clearly labeled "NSFW". It's up to you to teach your children that you believe such content inappropriate to them. However, this _is_ the Internet, and you can't keep your children sheltered forever. Additionally, you aren't the only person who reads this blog, nor are your opinions of what is and isn't appropriate universally shared.
Crypt King, your responses to Rakah have been uncalled for. Rakah may not have the authority to make sure Adam never blogs again, but your personal attacks were completely inappropriate. The beauty of the Internet is that you have the opportunity to interact with people from all walks of life, and this includes people who may not share our opinions. If you can't learn to respect that, you won't get very far.
Rakah Mar 3rd 2008 6:32PM
I'm pretty sure Wowinsider doesn't want porn links or nude links on their site.
The fact is, why are we giving this smut publicity, and why are we blogging about porn on a game site??
Well anyway....goodbye. No more wowinsider for me.
Bill Mar 3rd 2008 6:50PM
Think about it, Rakah. These posts go through an editing and approval process. If higher-ups at WOW Insider didn't want this post on the site, would it have been approved in the first place? Furthermore, the article that is linked doesn't talk at all about actual pornographic content but instead is concerned with shooting films--in this case, the genre just happens to be pornography. Finally, no actual pornography was linked, and it is beyond the control of WOW Insider if linked sites choose to link to mature content.
Charlie Mar 3rd 2008 5:44PM
Where be the tauren women!
Kevin Groover Mar 3rd 2008 6:16PM
Which has direct links to nudity pics, and porn sites.
Thanks for the porn moron. This is wowinsider.
