Kalgan says Season 4 not coming anytime soon
Although we've speculated in the past as to when Arena Season 4 will be going live, our anticipation fanned by the revelation of more and more Brutal Gladiator gear, Kalgan pops by the WoW General discussion forums to pour cold water on everyone's expectations by saying that Season 4 will start "Not very soon." He explains further that "S3 rewards have quite a bit of life left in them before they start to feel obsoleted by pve gear." Given that the Arena items uncovered so far in the PTR are only a fraction of what is supposed to be a wide collection, this sounds more than plausible. As Drysc explained earlier in the same post, PvP gear is designed to match PvE gear progression -- for instance, Arena Season 3 items are roughly on par with Black Temple and Mount Hyjal gear. The Sunwell Plateau needs to be unlocked in stages, as quests and raid drops open up more content, meaning most of the PvE gear that is a step up from BT/MH gear won't be available until at least a few weeks after Patch 2.4 goes live. It stands to reason that Arena Season 4 will only begin when most of the PvE progression has access to the Sunwell Plateau's latter bosses such as M'uru and Kil'jaeden. Considering that Patch 2.4 doesn't seem quite done yet, Season 4 is probably quite a ways off.

I don't see how this is different than what people were expecting. Each patch that has had new big raid content has brought the accompanying arena season with it, and the new season has started each time a few weeks after the big patch.
So how is this different than the other times before?

Heres the link to Kalgan's comment. Unfortunately it seems to have slipped the article.

Can someone explain to me why Arena gear has to match up to PvE gear at any/all times? I just don't understand how PvP WoW must be balanced with PvE.
IMO, PvE should ALWAYS trump PvP for obvious reasons.
I love Arena gear as much as the next guy, but why Blizz insists on matching it up with raid gear in the PvE realm is beyond my understanding.
hskillet79 Mar 4th 2008 8:53PM
i'll try to explain it to you.
Let's say that the best pvp you can buy with arena point have 100 DPS on it. And then, there's content in pve that gives you a 130 DPS weapon. People that are more dedicated, and does both PVE and PVP will be able to outgear a player that purely plays pvp. Soon enough, there will be some pve items that are better than pvp items. Forcing serious PvP players to PvE just so they can keep up with the most dedicated players.
So in return, with the current system, pve and pvp gear gotta be on par with each other.
Let me know if it makes sense to you.

I dunno it still seems like people are just going to exploit the newest imba's to make super teams, i say gimp the damage and up the stam and resilience so it's worth it for pvp and that 's it. To be fair for a rogue right now the 2nd best swords under the warglaives themselves are the s3, so am I to expect that s4 will put 2 legendary weapons to shame, simply so a few pvpers can have the luxury of having equal gear when the put literally days less worth of time into it? Besides they're obviously moving in that direction of making arena take longer, that's why a lot of burst dps classes are slowly fading out in arena.

I'm with Niko...
"As Drysc explained earlier in the same post, PvP gear is designed to match PvE gear progression -- for instance, Arena Season 3 items are roughly on par with Black Temple and Mount Hyjal gear."
Why is this again? I can go lose a bunch of arena matches and in 3-4 weeks buy my BT/Hyjal quality gear? Good thing I can suck at PvE and get into BT/Hyjal in 3-4 weeks. I wouldn't even complain if the PvP gear was actually hard to get. The personal rating requirement is a step in the right direction, but I think it needs to be on more pieces, or they simply need to come up with another mechanic for limiting access.

Agree! :-D

I think its better this way, especially for me personally who is still working on my s1 set as a druid. Sounds like a bit after 2.4 is released is when we'll start to see s4.

I die a little inside each time I see "we want Arena gear to be as obtainable as PvE gear" Honestly Blizzard has the Armory - what percentage of players are running around in T6 right now compared to S3?
WoW Jutsu lists only 10% of raiding guilds are in MH/BT, and only 4% have downed Illidan. I highly doubt only 4% of a server is running around in S3 gear. Im fine with giving PvP'ers a way to obtain epics through PvP. But dont bullshit and say theyre "equally obtainable"
Pook Mar 5th 2008 5:37AM
Yeah im with Imbalance on this...
Its not fair until, you have to save up all your arena points run to the vendor - you give him your points - then you /roll and if you don't get of 80 then you get nothing and you loose your points... seems fair.
Quickshiv Mar 5th 2008 9:36AM
They are equally obtainable if you want to pve. You are missing the bigger picture. The popularity of arena is growing while the popularity of pve is diminishing. In simpler terms there are a whole lot of people that don't want to pve anymore. I happen to be one of them. I don't want to join some big ass guild to go raid a dungeon so I might get the gear I need. Thats just not fun for me. I would rather fight real people then the same random number generator over and over again.
If you look at the newer s4 gear it is clear they are trying to make it less useful in pve but still making it better for pvp. I think they are on the right track.
Pook Mar 5th 2008 5:38AM
over 80... not being able to edit posts = fail.
Quickshiv Mar 5th 2008 9:40AM
Thats just stupid. They would have to do the same thing with badge turn in then too wouldn't they?
Nossy Mar 5th 2008 10:02AM
easy to get Arena gears. Basically if you know good players who can get their team to 2000-2200 rating, have their alt or friends join and farm off arena points. The good players leave that team and start a new one and get the ratings up. They can either sell the team, or get more friends to farm off the points.
It's pretty pathetic. Points should be given based on personal rating IMO.

This focus by Blizzard on making the arena the center of the game just sucks.
WoW is a RPG. WoW is not a First Person Shooter. You guys who want the thrill of killing fellow players, with no story element or other goals to achieve, should just go play Quake or Doom.
makishima Mar 5th 2008 1:48PM
I fail to see the gun pointed at your head forcing you to make the Arena the center of YOUR game. You play how you like. And clearly with a new 5 man and 25 man dungeon and raid they have nothing but the arena players in mind. And yes WoW is a role playing game. A role that you can define for yourself. Want to be an awsome arena player? Great you can! Want to go to Black Temple and spank the lord of Outland? Great you can! Please quite crying (yes I could use QQ....but its a blog people, not in game chat. There is no need to save time typing here.)

"I fail to see the gun pointed at your head forcing you to make the Arena the center of YOUR game."
You don't see the PVE nerfs, to my druid and my warlock, to make PVP 'balanced'?
I don't even play arena, but I'm being penalized.
Arena sucks.
