Cleavage buffed on PTR
The PTR has changed once more. Sure, the star changes are rollbacks on the Life Tap nerf and Flametongue buff, but there is at least one other change that I think is highly significant. Expect a Patch Note Watch soon exhaustively detailing every change that made it into the patch notes. Until then, however, enjoy the following:Cleave, Multi-Shot, Swipe, Chain Lightning, and Avenger's Shield will no longer hit targets that are under the effect of CC spells that break on damage, such as Polymorph or Sap. This includes Felguard Cleave and the Chain Lightning effects caused by various items. As far as I can make out, this is all spells that hit multiple targets, but are not AoE; Thunder Clap, for instance, will still break sheep. Edit: Whirlwind, Sweeping Strikes, and Blade Flurry do not seem to be included. Overall this change is, frankly, awesome. The implications for tanking alone are highly pleasant, as well as for Hunter and Elemental Shaman DPS. I'm starting to get excited about patch 2.4 all over again.

My elemental shaman thanks you Blizzard.

And my Warlock thanks you too. Muahhaa the Warlock protests are swayed Blizzard stance on life tap. Even Blizzard bows to Warlocks.

Yeah, there's a new enchant recipe [Enchant Chest - Exceptional Cleavage] coming up.

Hot Damn! I'm sad to see the MS debuff taken off of Flametongue, but frankly, this sounds much neater.

And after bitching all patch that we elemental shamans get nothing, I am pleasantly surprised. I can't tell you how many times when the sheep randomly decides to B-line it toward my target and just inside of CL's range. Especially annoying in the first few trash mobs of SSC, with the cramped passageways.
All in all, when you are an elem sham in a raid environment (or even Arenas) that uses a lot of CC, I'd gladly trade the 1% crit for the extra DPS a CL rotation brings.

Oooo, nice.
I wonder if it also affects the Searing Totem.

I actually noticed some very basic, though buggy, ai regarding this with 2.3.3. I believe it's already in there, and will just be improved with 2.4.

searing totem already respects cc, as long as it's plopped down after cc is set and engages a non-cc'd mob. it's smarter than some puggies!

Dang misleading titles lol ^.^
This is pretty good news though alot of ppl should be happy over this. To bad I play a shadow priest...left out in the cold again
Nick S Mar 5th 2008 10:50PM
OMG as a mage, this makes me so happy it hurts a little
kr3wman Mar 5th 2008 11:00PM
Reread the article.
I'm sad for you. No no, seriously. Mages need some love in 2v2.
Nick S Mar 5th 2008 11:26PM
counter-strike is for pvp. i live for da pve. :-)

kr3wman:
You've never been on sheep-duty in a PUG, I see. Or tanked multiple mobs with CC involved in small areas as a Bear Druid or Warrior. Or had to drop Chain Lightning in favour of less desirable spells as an elemental shaman. Or seen your DPS plummet like a clubbed seal because you can't use one of the best DPS-shots you have in your arsenal as a hunter. Or been on trap-duty in small areas as a hunter.
In fact, have you played the game at all?
I prefer casting damage spells instead of having to re-sheep every five seconds.
kr3wman Mar 6th 2008 1:32PM
I tought the other way around, thinking Nick was thinking Mages' AOE wouldn't break CC.
I'm sorry Pee Wee, I'm a scrub.
Or so you think.
Doma Mar 5th 2008 10:56PM
AWESOME! As an Ele, I love this change. Love It. Better than cleavage!
...eh, well...
kr3wman Mar 5th 2008 10:56PM
This could reverse the trend of some Battlegroups going for multi CC classes in 5v5, and return Dual-wielding Fury WW Warrior on top of the game now.
...
Joking Joking.
kr3wman Mar 5th 2008 10:58PM
Wait. Does this include Whirlwind?
