Need a cure for the Karazhan blues? Try 10 Paladins
Don't get me wrong here, Karazhan's generally a pretty fun dungeon, aside from the odd incredibly annoying trash mob, but when you've run it time and time again, it's always nice to find a twist or a new way of doing stuff to spice things up again. The Senatus Redux guild of the Kul Tiras EU run have done just that, clearing most of Karazhan with a group 10 paladins, most of them in no better than T4 gear or lower, on a run done on March 1st. They managed to get down all the bosses but Prince Malchezaar and Nightbane - and they have pretty good reason to believe that they could have had the Prince, having him to 15% on their last attempt of the night.
It certainly sounds like a lot of fun. I know I'd be cackling maniacally as I watched 10 consecrates and 10 holy wraths mow Illhoof's Imps down. I also have to give them a lot of credit for sticking it out through Opera. They got Romulo and Julianne, and despite having no way to dispel the Daring or Devotion buffs and no reliable interrupt for Julianne's heal, they got them down. Aran went down in 1 try despite no interrupts, which is another thing I have to give them a lot of credit for. Netherspite sounds like it was an intense fight - they had some trouble with the green beam, and it ended up healing him for over 25%, causing the battle to drag on long enough for him to enrage. They finished him off by bubbling up and burning down. Maiden was no trouble, unsurprisingly. 10 cleanses means her Holy Fire isn't a problem for long!
They did go back last night to finish the job. However, they took could only rustle up 8 Paladins, and filled the gaps with a Druid and a Shaman. I'd say I'd be willing to give them a pass since they kept it in the hybrid family. You can check the March 1st and March 4th entries on their guild site for the full write-up on all the action.

High fives to Danielbarron, Thomasvalheru, Tylbert, Pandolium, Dekka, Stormsnow, Hideki, Vangelis, Maelwedd, Seamless, and Fred, who replaced Seamless after the Curator went down. Good on all of you for kicking some behind and having fun doing it. Sure, it's been done before, and I've been told some druids have done it as well, but you did it with level appropriate gear, and you did it with style.

The 10 pallys is a classic one .. I myself am waiting for 10 death knights video to appear!!
Platnex Mar 5th 2008 8:11PM
Old news, a guild have fully cleared it with no wipes on the korean server

nice.
As much as i've done it, and hate myself for it, kara really is a superbly designed instance.

Something I thought was pretty cool was WAY back in the day when druids weren't much good, a group of 5 druids did a bunch of instances like ud strat and stuff. Doesnt sound like much now, but back then...
And kudos for 10-pally-ing kara!

Bah. 10 pallies? Show me 10 mages! :)

I know, seriously. I don't understand why this is even noteworthy. Why wouldn't 10 paladins be able to do Kara? You go in there with 2/3 holy paladins, 1 prot paladin, and 6/7 ret paladins and it should be easy.
Netherspite is the only boss in Kara that can't be single tanked by a prot paladin (and that's only because of nether exhaustion), but throw a shield on a few of the retadins and the red beam becomes trivial.
The only real draw back I see is that all the DPS would be melee, but that just means they need to be on their toes. It would also be sad to miss out on many of the buffs from other classes, but many of those short comings can be made up with scrolls.
Despite the drawbacks, there are advantages to this also. Both groups would have all of the useful auras, which includes fire/frost/shadow resistance auras (all of which are useful in Kara). With so many retadins, every judgement can be kept up on the targeted mobs:
1. Improved judgement of the cursader: +190 holy damage and +3% crit chance
2. Judgement of wisdom: high chance on hit to restore 72 mana
3. Judgement of light: high chance on hit to restor 95 health
And then there is the advantage that every single possible beneficial paladin buff will be on every raid member:
1. Holy paladins get: Improved blessing of wisdom, blessing of kings, blessing of salvation, blessing of light, and blessing of santuary
2. Ret paladins get: Improved blessing of might, Improved blessing of wisdom, blessing of kings, blessing of salvation, blessing of light, and blessing of santuary
3. Prot paladin gets: Improved blessing of might, Improved blessing of wisdom, blessing of kings, blessing of light, and blessing of santuary
And then there is the fact that every single party member has: divine shield, blessing of protection, and divine intervention. There should be no wipes.
I guess my point is that not only should it be possible to use 10 paladins in Kara, it isn't even that bad of a group setup.
10 druids would probably be better though (2 trees, 2 bears, 6 boomkins), but that is probably just my bias against melee dps.
Calaana Mar 5th 2008 8:52PM
I'm still waiting on 10 druid.. that'd make all hybrid runs done.
Despite this being done before, I believe this go around did better than the last; I don't think the first got prince down or shade either.
Wulfhere Mar 5th 2008 9:17PM
It wouldn't unless there's a 10 shaman run out there.
Then again, shamans are probably stupid enough to actually try it.
Kadamon Mar 6th 2008 4:21AM
From what I know, they're going to try and do the same thing this Friday night on Madoran, not sure if it's really going through or not.
Matt Mar 6th 2008 4:40AM
realistically there are only two classes that your could really expect to ten man this Pallies and druids. Good job to these guys but like some one said it would be more impressive if someone did this with 10 non healing class toons.
Traz Mar 6th 2008 5:12AM
Could 10 Hunters do it?
They can heal pets, which could balance out the lack of healers. Multiiple pets could stand in as a tank, helped by misdirection and feign death.
Plus, 10 x crowd control and AoE would be help for some of the tricky bits.
Pamplemoose Mar 6th 2008 7:15AM
You'd need to find 10 Hunters who actually know how to play their class well. That's not going to happen on one server...
Votum Mar 6th 2008 9:14AM
This reminds me of that old 40-Druid Onyxia kill video from way back. Good times.
Tservo Mar 11th 2008 3:28AM
I'd like to see some 25 pally SSC or TK now, that would be freakin nuts
