and you mentioned nothing of their God like AOE tanking ability.

I got the impression from reading the article, that the author has toyed with ret and holy only. As a prot paladin who has never really toyed with the other trees (prot griding FTW), I have nothing but love for this class.

Well yes. AOE tanking is amazing, but the topic of the article extends into prot when you consider how much we, as tankadins, have to worry about mitigation and stamina than other tank classes, how our OH SH!T button is a passive talent and can be leapfrogged, how many stats we have to worry about and/or sacrifice to excel. Prot spec, geared correctly, turns a paladin into a massive Holy DoT. It can be seen as limiting in some views.I agree with the author that we could all use some melee yellow attacks, especially in the lower levels when you just want to hit stuff when you want to hit it.And Holy could use some love as well. Giving Judgement of Light some kind of gear-scaling effect and making Consecrate a +heal AOE would go a long way to answering the call for more variation. But I KNOW the issues involved with those requests and threat... alas, one can dream.

No kidding - pally tanking is where it's at. It's sheer DPSing with no need to look at a threat meter. Heroic Shattered Halls is our bitch - we clear it in an hour or under. The AOE damage we do is like having a 4th DPS class in the party.I absolutely love pally tanking - we are the gods of 5-man content.

Absolutely correct. Paladin tanking is absolutely incredible. It deserves an article all its own, though. And frankly, I don't think I'm the expert on it as I've never raided as a tank. I have enough trouble getting gear on two specs as it is without having to worry about a third. And to be honest, Paladin tank gear itemization is a real headache!Still, you tanks have got to agree with me that it's pretty funny that a melee class has no melee strikes. Your Reckoning doesn't count (and some of you don't even take that =p).

I suppose it makes us a little different from warriors and bears, but it is part of the class design. My physical damage as a paladin tank is a very, very small portion of my threat. The entire design of tanking as a paladin is centered on our ability to generate threat through holy damage (because our 90% threat multiplier from righteous fury only affects holy damage). We are the mana tanks, and as such our threat comes from magic. That said, with the obvious move away from holy damage for ret pallies, I'd expect to see some more direct melee skills brought around for you guys in WotLK.
