WoW Moviewatch: The Showdown
The Showdown, his latest video, is an attempt at an action-packed storyline film. Unfortunately there's not much of a story going on. However, it is a very cinematic take on a battle scene. I'd say that the area that needed the most improvement would be the length of the video, but don't let that discourage you, Fishface!

Maybe if the rogue decided to pick up some decent weapons between level 40 and attaining full T6, she would have stood a better chance.

I think it's creative. The guy clearly has some talent to be able to make a movie like that. I didn't notice any length issues really... it told a story and the bird flying away at the end, symbolizing the spirit of the girl departing was a nice touch. The story itself was kinda predictable, but as we've been told he is merely messing around with different stuff trying to find a niche I'd say there isn't much to worry about. I'm sure when FishFace finds a niche we'll get good unique storylines then. Just my thoughts, now tear me apart.

I just jumped around it and every time I stopped it was just some guy walking around to slow music. Maybe I missed something but it was very boring imo. Not at all what I look for in wow movies. Then again, its very rare I like these "music" videos where they just show scene after scene with no real story. Gag me.

This movie started off well. The setting and the music were pretty much perfect throughout, and while it something the unwashed ignore, it's important in good film-making. There is a lot to be said for something simply 'feeling' like it should be there. The slow-panning shots in the beginning, the overall sense of gloom, all top-notch.
The problem comes when you hit the fight scene. For instance, the first scenes gave an impression that some terrible destiny and tragedy was approaching. Thing is, it never actually does. We get a fight scene, one of them dies, the end. Who are they? What are their names? Why are they fighting? The more information you know about your characters, the more tragic one of their deaths can be.
If he wasn't aiming for tragedy, then what was the purpose of the first few scenes in setting that very thing up? If he just wanted an action packed fight scene, then he went about it all wrong. That's not what it setup, it's like two different movies, spliced together, and it doesn't know what it wants to be.
I know he's experimenting, and I think he needs to look at his first few shots and work out why they were good, and drop the whole model-viewed action-scenes all-together for the moment. They were clunky, they didn't fit with the overall mood and feel of the film, they didn't feel like they belonged. He managed to evoke some sense of emotion early on, and then crumpled it up and threw it in the trash with the fight-scene, leaving me wondering why I just spent the last few minutes watching it.
Keep experimenting, keep working at it, there is potential here, but concentrate on what you're good at. Choreographed model-view fight scenes is not one of them, moody, evocative shots and appropriate musical setting, definately are.
