Uh, let's face the fact that Blizzard still doesn't seem to know what and where the want Mages in this game. Blizzard honestly seems very confused. Now they want to turn mages into a more AoE function, yet where's the threat mitigation for that? They take the top DPS and give the rogues, and hell, even shadow priests can often out DPS a mage nowadays. Mages really are taking a backseat to this whole approach, especially given that this class really has one use, while other classes have multiple options.

IMO, I've always thought that rogues should be a higher dps class than mages. They are much more dependent on gear for survival and damage, and they have to be up in the bosses face while we can stand in the background. This insures they have to do a better job of watching their threat, and they'll take a lot of damage we avoid just by not standing in the ground pounds, etc. That being said, mages should be right behind all the rogues on the dps charts, and nowhere else. We bring no group utility other than int buff and food; we're a PURE DPS class getting beaten out by locks/spriests, both of which bring HUGE amount of synergy to almost all other caster.

I'm completely fine with rogues setting the bar for DPS, and this is exactly what Blizzard has intended.I agree completely, that the utility of mages is very limited in scope to what other hybrid classes can now bring. No wonder most raids don't need more than maybe 1, 2, or 3 mages only. The rest of the spots can be filled by classes that can really pile on buffs. Perhaps Blizzard should allow mages to chain AI/AB to increase our usefulness.

lets be honest what the point of AOE powerhouse in wow. In Raiding most instance only have one or two times when you need AOE. so that means that the other 90% of the time mages aren't all that great and you don't pick something for a group for two aoe groups. In pvp AOE is less useful and highly situational and for arenas (which we all know is now the center of wow) AOE is a complete waste of time unless your trying to flush out rogues, and druid and even then not always the best idea. Don't get me wrong I love my mage but the class has a lack of focus at the moment and AOE is not the answer. I look forward to seeing what blizzard has to say but to be honest judging from the Lack of info i really now sure they know what there doing yet.
