More bad news from Skettis
If I only have time to do one daily quest, I do the one for the battlegrounds. If I only have time to do two daily quests, I do the battleground quest, Escape from Skettis, and Fires of Skettis. Yes, that's three quests, but the Skettis quests have been a source of quick and easy cash. I really consider them to be two steps to the same quest. Blizzard seems to be trying to make those quests less appealing in patch 2.4.
First they tell us that the Monstrous Kaliri that hinder us while doing our daily bombing quest, Fires over Skettis, have grown smarter. For now, the trick to getting away from those blasted birds is to fly straight up in the air until you're out of range. Apparently the next generation of Kaliri have gotten wise to that trick and have adapted to three dimensional combat.
Now Blizzard has informed us that the Skettis daily escort quest, Escape from Skettis, will have its reward turned down. I panicked a little bit at first, and I had to go check it out. It's really not that bad, at least on the Public Test Realm. The quest currently gives 9 gold, 10 silver, and your choice of either three Volatile Healing Potions or two Unstable Mana Potions. On the PTR the quest reward is 9 gold and 10 silver, with no fabulous potion prize.
These daily quests have been a reliable source of exceptionally easy money. The hardest aspects of the escort quest have been finding the Skyguard Prisoner and fighting over who gets to rescue him next. Once patch 2.4 goes live, the Skettis daily quests will be tougher and slightly less profitable.

... WHY??
sonvar Mar 7th 2008 2:09PM
I knew about the birds and not really surprised they are making them smarter but they haven't been much of a problem to begin with so it doesn't make much difference. However, I don't quite understand why they are taking away the potions from the escort. At the least they should up the money if they're going to do that to compensate the loss.

I think Blizzard has a team of people sitting around a conference room table asking, "How can we make Warcraft more of a pain in the ass to play?"

I gave up on the Skettis quests a long, long time ago due to general same faction inability to realize that *grouping* for things like the bombing runs you could actually finish the quest much quicker. Likewise the escort quest is such a complete pain (hunting for 1 spawn in 3 possible points at distance from one another) is ridiculous.

I agree, how game breaking would it be to have 3 prisoners spawn...

Oh please...who cares about those potions anyway. They were so worthless. I wouldn't waste my G on them...you have the potential of 1050 health on the low end. They were OK to have as long as you were getting the gold on them, but I doubt this will matter to anyone. I thought I read somewhere they were turning down the amount of gold too.

I typically sold a stack for about 4-5 gold. Much cheaper than the average stack of mana/health potions, which tends to be anywhere between 9-16 gold.
So in essence, you could make an extra 5 gold every 3 days of this daily on top of the quest normal return.
That isn't bad.

Only reason i used those potions was b/c they were free. otherwise, they're pretty worthless, at max level.
Taenwyn Mar 11th 2008 11:55PM
Ah, but if you want guilt-free potion use in the battlegrounds on a lower-level alt, it's a great way to keep them supplied.

As i said before, strafe while flying up, the birds cant path to you correctly before you get out of range.
For the escort quest, its not even worth the time to do unless you really need the rep. Whenever i actually do it, i save up the pots and ah them. People are always looking for healing pots for bg's and its just more free gold. Since they are taking them away, it makes that quest even more not worth wasting your time over.

Heh, you guys should try doing the escort on a PVP server. I think I've only completed it once.
peaglemancer Mar 7th 2008 3:16PM
@Matthew
I do escort everyday on a busy PvP server. Group up, cover the three spawns, easy-peasy.
Bootsanator Mar 12th 2008 12:36PM
@matthew
Yup, on our server there's about a 2:1 horde:alliance ratio, and while i'm flying around doing my dailies in ogrila and skettis, I see allies also finishing their dailies, and I occasionally get ganked by allies, even though there're way more of us than them. Grouping up FTW.
Let's practice:
/1 LFG Escort
/1 LFG Bombing/Banishing
(and if you're really desperate, simon says and wranglin)

The prisoner quest causes fights and arguments already, by toning down the reward, Blizz probably hopes to hear less "Thieves over Skittis" complaints because less people will now do the quest. Personally, I detest the area don't even bother with it anymore.
Eamara Mar 7th 2008 2:21PM
Meh, doesn't change much. There's loads of new quests being introduced in 2.4, I highly doubt anyone's going to bother with the old dailies anymore. And those potions were only good for vendoring anyway.
So yeah. No problems really, just look forward to the new dailies with possible badges of justice!
Khanmora Mar 7th 2008 2:56PM
o.0 I could get about 5-7g a stack (depending on if it was heal or mana pots) at AH for them within 2 hours of putting them up.
Andrew Ferguson Mar 7th 2008 5:36PM
I'd generally contribute these potions to my guild bank. They weren't terribly useful to me at 70, but they were pretty decent for the level 55-60 toons in my guild to just pick up for free :)
Ed Mar 7th 2008 2:33PM
Meh, well that gives me one more reason to not bother with the Skettis quests. It's the kaliri's learning to fly up that was the final nail in the coffin for me - I'm looking forward to the new Sunwell dailies to replace them!
Shumina Mar 7th 2008 2:35PM
Those mana potions were great for raid trash if I needed. The only reason to go through the headache of looking for him and grabbing him as fast as possible before being ninja'd by the opposite faction was for those free "worthless" pots. The gold rewards is less than the typical 11g,99s the other dailies offer, so the pots made up for it. Now I'll just add a different daily to my runs instead of this one, which I'm sure is what they were after. With Sunwell's dailies opening up, I'm sure we'll see more gimping of the other dailies to herd us into the new content. I'm fine with that.
Those birds...those damnable annoying birds. Change whatever you want about them...I'll hate them forever for being constant pests. That's all they are. Pests.
Swarfy Mar 7th 2008 2:39PM
I only do the escort if he's up when i do the bombing run. otherwise i generally don't do it. unless I'm really hard up for cash.
My routine generally goes, bombing run, fly up to blade's edge and do those four and then I'm done. no messing around trying to find the guy when he spawns in one of three places and generally is already in mid path by the time i do manage to find him.
As for the birds... *hiss* They aren't much of an issue, but i still like the escape route. Better than being a splat on the ground, and paying 5 gold a death. (On average between my three 70's)
