Phat Loot Phriday: Vengeful Gladiator's Touch of Defeat

Name: Vengeful Gladiator's Touch of Defeat (Wowhead, Thottbot, WoWWiki)
Type: Epic Wand
Damage/Speed: 252-468 Fire / 1.90 (189.5 DPS)
Abilities:
- +18 Stamina, +14 Intellect
- Improves your resilience rating by 14, which is standard for PvP arena gear -- anything to counteract those big crits.
- Increases damage and healing by magical spells and effects by up to 18. Which doesn't seem like a lot, but for a wand, it's pretty good.
- The big difference between this and the other PvP season 3 wand, the Piercing Touch, is that this one doesn't have spell penetration on it. The tradeoff is the Intellect, and a few damage points, so it's up to you. Higher end players might go for the penetration (that's the only way you can get past resistances), while a player who is in the Arenas only in between raids might grab this one. It's up to you.
But there's another catch -- season 3 added personal and team requirements to purchase the weapons. So to actually buy this, not only do you need the points, but
Which gets us back to the reason why we stay away from PvP gear here on Phat Loot: no matter how much you covet this, if you're not a good player, it's not yours. In the future Arena seasons, we can expect this loot to come back down: next season it'll be cheaper, and the season after that it might even be available for BG honor and tokens. But right now, it's be good or go home for this high-end Arena gear.
Getting Rid of It: Vendors won't buy it, and like most PvP gear, it doesn't disenchant. But you worked hard for that rating -- while you could destroy it if you happen to find a better wand in Northrend, you might as well keep it as a trophy of your winnings.

Wands do not require Personal Rating.

You don't actually need a specific rating for the Wands. For some reason, shields need the 1850 rating, but Wands, Totems, Idols, Librams and the like are exempt. Also Hunter-specific weapons which has me a little bitter, but *shrug* I don't make the rules.

It's cos the hunter bow (the main weapon for a hunter, really) has the rating instead.
(Basically each class can get a main weapon with rating and secondary without).
A hunter will see more benefit from their secondary weapon than, a caster or melee, but that's because hunters are different in that their main source of stats is actually their secondary weapon.
It's caused many an argument though, so eh, I probably shouldn't bring it up.
Oh well.
And yeah, wands don't need the rating, kinda messed up half of the article. >.

I can't speak to the shield or other OH/ranged slot items, but
I would assume that part of the reasoning for not requiring a rating for the wands is because they are not major PvE improvements.
As you may have heard from raiders from time to time, season 3 (and 1 and 2) weapons are great for PvE. These wands don't offer anything for pve that some blue quest wands don't.

My previous wand did Shadow Damage... a lot of good that did me as a deep fire mage >< This wand gives me a nice DPS boost for those times when I go OOM, since it benefits from my +fire spell dmg.

Wands do not recieve any bonuses from +spell damage.
Havitech Mar 7th 2008 7:36PM
Oh, I didn't know that. Well, it still does lots more damage than my last wand. I just assumed it was benefiting from my +fire spell dmg.

Seriously...how hard is it to check that this item does not require rating? It took me all of about 30 seconds at the Armory.

The sad part is that the model is the exact wand I have...at lvl 40

Also there is one more season 3 wand, the one with healing. Real shame that Phat Loot so full of false information this time.

The bloggers here seem to be clueless. No rating is required on wands. WTB bloggers who know what they are talking about, PST.

I disagree about having to be good to get this.
Got four friends?
Pool 200g a week and start a new 5v5 team.
Even if you lose all ten games you still get ~300 points.
Doing this with my alt paladin.
Maybe I'm high and maybe this is against the rules(?) but I did it last week and will do it this week.
So far so good.
