SXSW08: How gamers are adopting the wiki way

One of the many excellent sessions in the ScreenBurn track at SXSW Interactive this year, the "How Gamers Are Adopting the Wiki Way" panel featured George Pribul (lead admin of WoWWiki.com), April "CuppaJo" Burba (Community Manager for NCsoft's Tabula Rasa), Angelique Shelton (GM of Wikia Gaming at Wikia Inc), and Jake McKee (Principal at Ant's Eye View) talking about the symbiotic relationship between gamers and wikis. Interesting factoid: WoWWiki is now the second largest English-language wiki in the world behind Wikipedia. How is this being measured? Number of articles? And is it considering all the diferent Wikipedia versions as one thing?

Hello. This is wrong. AboutUs.org is the LARGEST wiki in the world with over 6 million unique visitors a month and has over 10,000,000 articles.

The Wiki Commons list of wiki is bugged because at one point the wiki software will "stop" counting the pages. From my knowledge AboutUs is the largest.

http://www.aboutus.org/Special:Statistics , reads more pages then WikiPedia has itself, but however the numbers on the page had stoped incraement a while back, which I'm sure the AboutUs team will fix eventually.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Statistics reads 2,272,519 articles.

http://wowwiki.com/Special:Statistics 121,858. Also WoWWiki says they have 500,704,886 total page views. So that is basically over 500 million page loads, not counting unique visitors.

If AboutUs has 6 million unique visitors, if they each load five pages each, theres thirty million total page views, also AboutUs is over a year old. So lets count in twenty months of 6 million visitors on an average of five page views each, that is over six hundred million pageviews.

I know for sure, AboutUs is the largest wiki in the world in a database link, and defintly compiting in visitor link.

Hello, the man in the photo here!

My apologies if my comment was incorrect - my original comment was that we're the second largest *English-language* wiki in the world. I had not come across AboutUs.org (though I would point out that we're a single subject wiki).

As our stats page says, the visitor count has not been updated for a while, but we're getting around 3 million uniques a month.

Third-largest ain't bad anyway ;)
