Darkmoon Faire calendar error [Updated]
Many of those who were waiting to turn in their decks at the Darkmoon Faire may have to wait another month. It's been changed now, but the official events calendar for the faire showed it as coming from March 10th-16th this month, when it actually showed up in game from March 3rd-9th. When one of the people who was counting on that March 10th date posted a thread wondering what had happened, world events designer Kisirani posted. She admitted that, yes, the calendar was in error, and the faire has come and gone for the month.
Unfortunately, she also went on to say that there's not really a way to get people their decks, and it's looking likely that they'll have to wait for April. She's gone over future dates to make sure they're correct, but spawning a turn-in NPC or allowing people to petition a GM for a deck turn in would be, she says, a logistical nightmare. It looks like the only option Kisirani and her team are willing to consider is respawning the faire for the week, but even that is still up in the air.
Hopefully, if you had a deck waiting to turn in, or just wanted to stock up on Spiced Beef Jerky, you thought to check last week. If not, we'll have to see if the dev team decides that the calendar error deserves allowing everyone a second chance to experience the faire this month.
UPDATE: It looks like Kisirani came through for us. The Darkmoon Faire will be up after tomorrow's maintenance!

I think it would be very bad form not to respawn the faire for another week. It's Blizzard's mistake, and Blizzard needs to fix it. One month is a huge amount of time, considering how long the new decks have even been out... more than 10%.
ikono Mar 10th 2008 6:42PM
well, the faire does have barkers in the cities...
spartan084 Mar 10th 2008 6:47PM
Yes, but only alliance cities when it's in elwynn. Hordies have to rely on good faith that the people who manage the events calendar are doing their job.
Blafa Mar 10th 2008 6:49PM
Thats the issue here. There were none in the horde city. Its not like im camping Elwyn Forest to see if the DMF pop up a week early for a change.
I looked at the callendar and when i got to know it already been up i got pretty disapointed. I hope blizzard is on this.
Deshar Mar 10th 2008 6:52PM
yeah. Cause the Barkers were in Orgrimmar when the faire was in Elwynn.
You know. Or they aren't.
spartan084 Mar 10th 2008 6:45PM
Yup. Just logged on, took my Tauren druid to elwynn, looked around for a few minutes, and double checked wowhead to make sure I was in the right place. And when I come to WoW Insider, low and behold, the first thing I see? This crap. Thanks Blizzard!

I was pretty surprised to see it last week, but I was just happy to be getting my decks a week early.

Everyone who loves the Faire knows it comes the first week of every month. Even without the Barkers, I knew the Darkmoon Faire was this past week. But then, I go to it everytime it's in town, any town. Know the rotation too. Next month is Thunder Bluff.
Just remember: First week of every month.

The fair is supposed to begin setting up shop the first Friday of the month. This time it started setting up on February the 29th, which is not a part of the month of March.
Those of us hordies who knew the Friday rule got screwed.
darian Mar 10th 2008 7:29PM
*faire, the e escaped somewhere.
Rich Mar 10th 2008 7:19PM
ya thanks a lot blizz. i have my furies deck ready to turn in, now i gotta wait another damn month? you'd think their "official" calendar wouldn't be fucked up.
darian Mar 10th 2008 7:25PM
/cry
I have a Beasts deck ready to turn in for my Druid, and I was all set to turn in it this very evening. :(

No, the Darkmoon Faire is NOT the first week of every month.
The rule is that on the first Friday of each month, the Darkmoon Faire begins setup and actually begins the following Monday.
March 7th was the first Friday of the month. March 10th was when it was supposed to start. This is how it was on the official calendar. This was correct.
The error occurred because of the leap year. Feb 29th was a Friday. The dev team accidentally programmed the Darkmoon Faire to begin setup on Friday Feb 29th because normally, in non-leapyears, that Friday would have been March 1st. Which would be the first Friday of the month.
So ya, Blizzard screwed up. I could have sworn I read March 10th on the Calendar, only to log in today and see it had come and gone. Missed my chance for my card i bought :-(

Someone should have there job nerfed over this(World events designer Kisirani perhaps?). Come on....HOW DO NOT KNOW THAT THE EVENT THAT IS POSTED ON YOUR OWN WEBSITE IS NOT THE RIGHT DAY/WEEK???? Do they have monkeys over there checking for errors? We're talking about millions of people that got screwed out of trinkets and etc. that they have been planning/saving for and now we gotta wait another month?
theRaptor Mar 10th 2008 8:50PM
Calm the hell down. I doubt one in ten WoW players where waiting to get a darkmoon trinket this month, so your hysteria is out of all proportion.
The event calendar was following the proper rule of the faire setting up on the first friday of the month. But the leap year must have thrown the code off.

i wanted to turn the blessings deck, and i was confused because faire wasnt spawning, and i had the deck since 8 so i could turn it before >.

I am pretty miffed about this one. I was in Elwynn a few days before the 10th and there was no Darkmoon Faire, and no barkers in Stormwind (on Nagrand US). So saying that it was early is wrong - it was missed altogether.
Then we get told that its over and we missed it despite waiting for the event to start. If they saw the issue, why no announcement on their website, in forums, etc?
I checked the "Official wow Calendar" and set my plans around it.
Its poor form. Adding it back in as part of Tuesday's maintenance is a good move and shows an understanding of the player base.

I blame Leap Year.
Normally the Faire starts construction on the first Friday of the month, to open the following Monday. This year that Friday fell on Leap Year Day, February 29th, so Blizzard messed up by not taking that into account in the their calendar.
theRaptor Mar 10th 2008 9:11PM
No the code is wrong. Blizzard doesn't have a GM going around turning these events on, they are hard coded to go at certain times. And apparently that code ignored the leap year.
TDurden Mar 10th 2008 9:15PM
That's actually what I meant, in that Blizzard's programming messed up by not taking into account Leap Year. The program believed it to be March 1st, so started construction of the Faire that day. In fact, I originally wrote "programming" but changed it to Blizzard.
