MMO-Champion has posted
images of possible new portals to Theramore and Stonard in patch 2.4. Now, the highest level mage I have is level 20, so this probably won't directly affect me in any way, but I have to think the idea of new portals and the ability to teleport to new places would be pretty nice for mages. I guess it would all depend on what level they had to be to get these new abilities. A portal to Theramore wouldn't really be that helpful for a level 70 mage as far as I can tell, but I could be wrong: it would certainly make the CoT instances easier to run. (Then again, we're supposedly getting a teleporter directly to those anyway, and a Stonard portal wouldn't help with that.)
What do you think? Is this perhaps a clue that players will be heading to Northrend from a Stonard dirigible or a Theramore boat? I may be reaching there.

Ummm isnt stonard the closest town to Kara?
I could be wrong but when I do Kara, I port to uc, blimp to gromgol then fly to stonard. and finally walk to kara. If there is a better way please let me know. (other than summons)

fly from shat to the dark portal, mount up and ride from dark portal... wayyy faster then anything involving a zeplin
Abraham Warner Mar 10th 2008 12:54PM
Yup, that's the way to do it and that's almost certainly why the new portals will be put in place

Stonard surprises me. I would think Grom'Gol Base makes more sense, since it has blimp service. But I've thought Grom'Gol and Theramore need some attention for a long time. Portals would be a good start. Both settlements should have battlemasters too, IMO.

These portals would have been handy back in Vanilla wow when we were killing Onyxia every week. But now, it's Meh....at best.

Except Dustwallow Marsh is nowhere near Stonard...
Aaron Mar 10th 2008 12:55PM
But theremore portal is :p
Aaron Mar 10th 2008 12:47PM
Well thats nice and all, but waaaay to late there Blizz, would have been nice in 2007 when a majority were doing Kara.
Acariquara Mar 10th 2008 12:47PM
Yep, this will make Kara runs a little faster. Then again, in 2.4 Warlocks will be able to summon lazy-asses inside instances, so what's the point?
Oh and BTW Stonard is also really close to the Dark Portal, easing access to Outlands. But then again, that's what Teleport:Shattrath is for.

Well, Stonard is the closest Horde town to Kara, so I suppose that's useful for it's own reasons. But if you were going to allow Mages to get to Kara easier, why not just let them port right to the front door?
Theramore seems a decent place to have the Alliance boats setting sail for Northrend, but Stonard seems a little out of the way for Horde Airways. I guess we'll just have to wait and see with this one.

I'm guessing you probably don't play on a PvP server. During peak hours there are times where, at least on the PvP server I play on, where either the Horde or Alliance 'control' the Kara door.
Meaning, there are twice or more Alliance then Horde or vice versa. The only thing a direct port would do is give you a corpse to zone in to.
Then there's also the whole meeting stone thing outside too...

Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian's for everyone!

It for Kara. That is the only logical thing I can think. I have been farming badges there so it would be nice.
Arabelli Mar 10th 2008 12:57PM
Man, it's like Blizzard just wants me to be lazier.
Not that I'm complaining! I swear, the reason I never alt is just because travel/food is so cushy on the mage...

Ah, but don't forget, there is still the Karazhan dungeon underground that has been talked about. This could be preparation for that arriving in WotLK. As well as helping out with keeping Kara as the best place for badges.

"The Crypt" used to be accessible pre-TBC. If you knew where to die, you could ghost walk yourself through the gate and rez on the other side, giving yourself complete access to the really creepy but ultimately empty "dungeon" (it was not instanced). Way back in the day, on post-BWL/AQ40 raid debriefs, me and some officers used to wander around there while talking strategy and whatnot. Tons of screenshots if you look. Some very ominous rooms were in there ("The Upside Down Sinners" room was especially creepy).

Well, in 2.4 there also having gear avialiable for badges that is equivalent to BT/MH gear, and in sunwell plateau they will add bracers, boots and i think belt to t6. IF they're doing this, I think portals to stonard are just trying to get people to do kara more for more badges.
Killah Mar 14th 2008 4:46PM
Could you maybe upload these screenshots and upload them somewhere?

Additionally, these are pretty major towns without anything 'big' around them. It may have to just simply be rethinking on Blizzard's part to make travel easier in general. No particular new things in the works so much as rethinking the monster flightpaths, etc.
There's a big chunk of land for each faction that is sort of a bear to get to without them. My hearth is currently in Theramore, since that makes it easy enough to get to either Tanaris or Rachet (for uh... checking on the Horde. Making sure they're okay. With blankets and stuff.)
Yeah, nicer in vanilla wow or during heavy Kara, sure sure. But better late than never!
