Drysc weighs in on the mysterious lost Titan city of Uldum
It seems like the possibilities of Uldum, in Southern Tanaris, have sparked the imagination of lore fans and adventurers ever since the first person turned in the Discs of Norgannon out of Uldaman. The wealth of Information we recieve from the quest about the intentions of the Titans (those whom the disc calls "The Creators") and the origin of not only the Dwarves, but possibly every sentient race on Azeroth, is tremendous, and Uldum only promises to bring more of it, revealing incredible secrets about the origin of life on this and perhaps other worlds.
Unfortunately, since we apparently need the Plates of Uldum to access it, it remains closed for now, and we're stuck with speculation about what could lurk in its halls. However, today, Drysc commented on the possibilities himself in a forum thread. While all he really confirmed is that they DO plan to open it at some point, it's still more than enough of a bone to get the old speculation machine turning.
Warning: Spoilers ahead!
We don't know exactly when we'll be allowed to get in, but we do know HOW we'll get in (most likely): The aforementioned Plates of Uldum. But when you think about where we might find the plates we need, the most obvious answers suggest that we may not be all that far from opening Uldum. Consider this: the best place to find a copy of the plates would probably be in another Titan stronghold, right? Enter Ulduar, a Titan fortress (now apparently occupied by Storm Giants) located in Northrend. We know from Blizzcon that it will be a WoTLK dungeon, so it's definitely coming. It's the perfect place for the Titans to stash a copy of the needed plates. Of course, if that doesn't pan out, Drysc also says he believes that something has broken out of Uldum in his post. Perhaps whatever it is (A Golem? A Giant like Ironaya?) bought a copy of the plates out with it, and if we track it down, we can have them for ourselves. Either way, WoTLK seems like it will offer plenty of prime opportunities for the gates of Uldum to open, if not with the expansion release, perhaps later as a patched-in dungeon like Dire Maul or Magister's Terrace.
Of course, the other question would be... what would we find in there? We're not really sure. Right now, there's quite a few giants milling around outside the instance. We don't know yet why they're attracted there, or if they've managed to get into Uldum itself. Perhaps they're attracted to some piece of Titan technology inside the fortress, or perhaps they were set there to guard it by the Titans themselves. We might also expect the Earthen and their "Unacceptable variant," the Troggs, to make an appearance again. We might also find more strange creations of the Titans. We don't quite know yet what the Titans might have up their sleeves, or what they might have stored away in their fortresses.
As far as what knowledge and lore we could find inside, the possibilities really are endless. The Titans apparently created much of what walks Azeroth, so the origins of many species and primeval history could be at our fingertips. We could find out more about the Old Gods they fought, or the Dragonflights they established to watch over Azeroth. But even if you just stick to elaborations on the Discs of Norgannon, the possibilities are many. We could find out more about the exact origin of the Dwarves and how they - and the Troggs - evolved from the Earthen. Branching off from this, we could also finally find a point of origin for the Gnomes (I have often wondered if their affinity for creation was implanted in them by the Titans), Humans (There's been some speculation, backed up by the Warcraft RPG books, that they could also be a permutation of the Earthen), and Goblins.
It really does seem to that of all the upcoming content, dungeons like Ulduar and Uldum could be the biggest source of new old lore to come out in a long time, and could answer a lot of old questions. Hopefully Drysc's post is a sign that those floodgates will break sooner rather than later. I know I'm eager to dig into it all.

I hope they implement Uldum at some point in the future as an instance. I have fond memories of it, simply because of the first time I completed the whole 'platinum discs' min-quest line and got gargantuan chunks of XP for it.
Whenever I go into Uldaman now, my party is always bemused by me yelling "Don't forget the platinum discs!"

When I got my first character into the 40's and explored every inch of Tanaris, I saw some giant doors in the distance surrounded by a bunch of elite giants. To my surprise I was able to take town the giants even though they were elite and a couple levels higher than me because I could just keep them feared. I worked my way to the doors and it said "you discovered Uldum." I thought "cool!" but immediatly felt chagrined that I could not enter. I tried for about 5 minutes to squeeze into the crack, but finally realized it must not be implemented. Every once in a while I would check back to see if it was implemented yet, but gave up after about a year of that.

alright, i am trying to think like blizz here but seeing as its so near caverns of time and the strong connection between the titan's and the aspect's, maybe the might tie up the timeless dragonflight story and how they interfered with the battle for mount hyjal maybe they took some energy from the world tree before archimonde got there and perhaps with the energy and/or water from the base of the world tree they have some scheme to utterly destroy or corrupt the other dragon flights lead by deathwing witch might lead us on to the next expansion

It seems like if you could get the discs in the upcoming WotLK expansion from a 5-man dungeon, it might make sense that Uldum could become a 10 or 25-man raid.
If the attunement involves finding these discs, then it would only make sense. It would be so awesome if it were the Kara of WotLK! (I am so sick of Troll raids, ZG & ZA blech!) :)

Totally agreed. Stop with the troll nonsense, please. The fights are kinda fun but the gear is too hideous to describe and the accents have got to go.

The information put out there by Blizzard seems to indicate that if Uldum gets put in it will be as a patch in dungeon. I really wouldn't expect it until the end of WotLK or the expansion after (Flight of the Titans!, because we have killed every bloody thing else). Kind of sad because I expected Uldum before Northrend, but it is like a lot of pre-BC content that was basically abandoned or cut short (Emerald Dream, current Hyjal etc).

Anyone else think the "Plates of Uldum" sound suspiciously like something you need for attunement, like the onyxia neck kinda thing?
Maybe its a raid. ooooh.

I would (almost) guarentee the plates are hte attunement item, the hints are all there.
As to when/if it opens - I think it's likely something blizz have on the backburner. As has been mentioned - with us instancing in another titan stronghold in Northrend and the whole "someone's messing with time" thing being unexplained, keep that as a side plot in Wrath and basing it around "something got out of Uldum".
That might explain why someone/thing is changing time (an old failsafe of the titans left in Uldum to keep Azeroth on the straight and narrow has either escaped or its original instructions now threaten us in some way - its trying to correct "mistakes" we dont want correcting by changing time etc).
Gives plenty of future lore opportunities (we either kill it or reason with it and it helps us defeat the burning legion - it might even want to change time so sergeras makes it to Azeroth easilly so it can come out and wup him) and possible instance hub in future.

Uldum could have an opening event similar to the AQ event.
Amux Mar 12th 2008 4:26AM
That will be great. This sounds so good.
But please Blizz makeit a 5er or 10er instance not a 25.
Because people will never see it.

Loads of people saw Gruul and that's a 25 man :>
