Onyxia: Bugged at 70

It's probably because she is bugged. And not just bugged, REALLY bugged.
Two groups have now gone in and tried to defeat her. Each time the first attempt was a failure as people relearned not to stand too close to each other (Forsythe run to the center!), run to the side when the rains fire down (<-- 2N, 2N - 1 -->), and all those other small tidbits that make the fight what it is. However when it reached the second attempt, she started acting strange. First, she wouldn't target anyone or let anyone tank her – she just walked around her lair and jerked around a bit. We could still damage her, but that was it. And really it was only the ranged and my crossbow that were able to do any damage (more dots!).
Once phase two hit, she flew up and then immediately started to breathe fire onto the raid. This behavior in particular really was quite odd, since the fire breath isn't supposed to happen right away, and you're supposed to get a warring before she does it – so you can run to the sides and away from her. Nothin' doin'. She just started this automatically. Really quite odd, and frankly annoying.
Now Ony is a "boss" level mob, so that means that she's going to attempt to crush me. I never really noticed if she did, since Shield Block is part of my ingrained rotation. But beyond that, all of her attacks are susposed to be level 60-ish, which they were. That combined with my 21.5k buffed health meant it was all pretty easy on the healers.
One time when we attempted her she decided to walk around the welps cave (Welp! More Welps! Right Side!). She stood there looking at us while we dot'ed her up and ranged her down until phase 2, but again, same result as above – insta death from the flame breath.
We ended up never getting her (50 dkp minus). Archimode? Not an issue for us. But Ony? Watch out! Any other stories of pre-bc boss fights gone insane?
And since I've been alluding to it my whole article, here is the NSFW Onyxia wipe animation.

Happened to us on Sunday. We still killed her though.

We've seen this behavior too (the wandering into the whelp cave, right side, out of range of a lot of crap); after the second time, we decided we had better things to do.

My guild attempted Onyxia for first time about a month ago ... we wiped on first attempt... and seen same kind of odd behavior on second try as you describe.
Gave it a week and returned... downed her easily with no quirks. Maybe something to do with that first wipe... the encounter does not reset properly.

I just came in to ask:
Is Onyxia Deep Breathing more since the Darkmoon Faire hotfix?
darian Mar 11th 2008 6:14PM
As a completely random aside, I'd like to personally thank you for mentioning the hotfix.
I initially thought you were joking, but I double checked and indeed there is a hotfix. If you hadn't commented, I never would have known until after it was over (again).
Thanks.

So what you are saying is that Onyxia is deep breathing more after the patch?
Adam Holisky Mar 11th 2008 2:48PM
There's no evidence to suggest the Deep Breath is happening more after after a 2.x patch, only the 2.0.1 patch combined with level 70.

It must just be your server. We have been 5 manning her on our server for months now with zero problems even if we wipe.
dan Mar 11th 2008 6:16PM
Agreed. Not an issue on my server either. In fact we run into the caves deliberately to get more whelps to liven it up.

At least you got there. The quest line to get keyed for Onyxia is bugged on my main. I run the escort, bring the guy alive through his tour to the exit, he gives his speech, and the quest does not complete. Tried more than five times. Bugged GMs about it a couple times too. Eventually, I gave up.
hpavc Mar 11th 2008 3:57PM
Same with me, I went back to his cell and it completed thought he wasn't there.
rplido Mar 11th 2008 3:03PM
Welps? Archimode? Isnanse? Is there a reason the article is hard to follow and riddled with errors? *sigh*
Lehtinen Mar 11th 2008 3:18PM
LOL you, my friend, are not caught up on your useless WOW video knowledge.
More DOTs! More DOTs! OK Stop dots!
George Mar 11th 2008 4:13PM
You poor, poor man... you've never seen the video?
Tara Mar 11th 2008 4:51PM
This person is talking about the spelling mistakes and typos.
Whelps. Insane.
Seperioth Mar 11th 2008 3:09PM
LOL we did that last night. Our healer got us killed.. we came back.. she walked around through the whelp pits. Then got caught in a wall. Myself and the other mage went to town on her.
In 2nd phase she acted normally. Sadly our healer still sucked and we failed.
Funny to see we weren't the only people trying to 5 man her.
crsh Mar 11th 2008 3:11PM
Blizzard probably didn't like the fact that she can be solo'ed (hard but doable) or casually done with 5 people; she was acting up when I last saw her 6 months ago, phase 2 at least was weird, but we killed her anyway.
There are *a lot* of bugged out pre-BC encounters (Sapphiron, Twin Emps, etc), I may have put a tinfoil hat on, but I suspect they're intentionally bugged by Blizzard.
hpavc Mar 11th 2008 4:13PM
Naugh.
I am sure there is some exploit proofing code that gets triggered somehow. Not intentionally.
Arabelli Mar 12th 2008 11:24AM
Sapph is doable, just veeeeeery carefully. There's only a tiny point where you can hide behind the ice blocks, so you put symbols on your hunters and stack behind 'em.
We went back to get one of our priests her Greatstaff. It's great, now she gets the horror of 'portal plz?' during Alt Kara runs. /bwahahaha
Vinna Mar 11th 2008 3:11PM
We had this problem just last week when we went to kill her, she wouldn't agro to anyone and run around in the whelps. We just stood off to the side and raged dpsed her until phase 2 and everything seemed fine after that.
