Breakfast Topic: Where would your characters "retire" to?
In this thread over on the WoW forums, poster Davinchi of the Chogall server asks where you'll log out for the last time.
Now for me, I don't really like the question as-is. it's sort of a bit too final, you know? I expect I have quite a few years of Warcraft playing left in me. That said, the concept is sort of fun to think about in that I have to admit I sort of have ideas where my characters might retire. I've never seen my characters as completely dependent on me. Maybe I'm just too much a Roleplayer, but I can't really make a character without seeing their personality and disposition, and what they'll end up liking and disliking, and how they react to the various quests and grinds I send them on. So I have a pretty good idea, I think, of where they might end up should I ever stop playing them to move on to other characters.
Right now, I mostly tend to think of it in terms of Northrend. My Dwarf Hunter will probably head up into the Grizzly Hills. It seems like there's some awesome hunting up there, and I can see her hitting it off with the Furbolg tribe up there. My Warlock would definitely end up studying magic at Dalaran. He's always been the type to seek after arcane knowledge, even if he digs deeper than most sane mages care to go. My druid would probably be working in Northrend somewhere to purify the land, maybe next to the Great Tree (Similar to the one in the middle of Duskwood) that's rumored to be up there in Crystalsong Forest, maybe working alongside the dryads there.
What about you? Whether it would be because you're quitting the game, or because you're moving on to a new character, or just because you like to speculate, where do you see your characters "retiring" to when all is said and done?

back where I first started.
Anvilmar in Dun Morogh

I wouldn't care, i'd just leave them where they were when i decided to never log in again.
I know someone who left his druid as high up in the air as he could, shapeshifted and logged of before he fell. His other character is at the bottom of an ocean milliseconds away from an empy breath bar. It's kind of fun, but too much hassle for me. Especially when you ever decide to come back :)

The first time I "quit," I took all my alts back to their starting areas and deleted them. Then I sat my main down at the Blue Recluse in SW and logged out.
The second time I "quit," I logged out my main as he bobbed in the beautiful blue sea looking back toward Steemwheedle Port in Tanaris.
Now, when I "quit," I just make sure to log off in an inn or a city.
If you give consideration to where you retire your toons, then there's a 99% chance you'll be back.

Shadowprey Village. Quiet, peaceful, and my retired warlock could spend all day fishing out in the ocean.
Plus, the music is awesome.

When i decided to reroll on another server a few months after WoW came out, i logged out my NE hunter on top of the Ironforge mountain, near that flag and the guard.

Aszhara (sp?). The northern peninsula, probably. But then again, maybe the southern peninsula, by the broken legs of that huge statue. I always loved the autumny look and desolate feel of that zone. It would be a great place for an adventurer or great hero to retire to.

in ironforge, drinking with the awsomeness that is dwarfs

For my main, she's a spunky gnomish mage with a love for dragons, so probably somewhere near the dragonblight, or in the mage tower in Azshara, overlooking the ocean.
As for my draeneic shadow priest? I would leave her in the heart of Black Temple, waiting for the day that it is cleansed.
>_> I'm a sap.

Hmmm, I figure that since most of my current chars are Dranei, they will return to Azuremyst in the end, although I must admit, I would love to have a home in Nagrand again.
Calaana Mar 12th 2008 8:42AM
Shammy: One of the floating islands in Nagrand, just me and the elements.
Paladin: Standing guard outside the Black temple, just incase.
Rogue: As deep in the Frostwolf keep as I can get her, waiting. Just waiting.

If i ever leave my warlock, I'd hellfire him on the summoning circle in the slaughtered lamb. It would be good to think i freaked out some new player when he gets his Voidwalker.
Either that or on one of the two Altar of Storms.
Candina@WH Mar 12th 2008 8:59AM
Undead Shadow Priest: He'd retire to Nagarand, No particular reason, just loved the zone.
Orc Shaman: The Thunderlord Stronghold in Blades Edge to keep the Ogres at bay.
Tauren Hunter: He would return to Mulgore and Thunderbluff.
Blood Elf Mage: Daralan or Netherstorm.
Blood Elf Paladin: Shattrath City, Scryer Rise
Undead Warlock: Retire? I'm going to live forever, muwahahaha....
Tauren Druid: Nightsong Woods. Love the music.
Troll Rogue: Booty Bay Inn. Beer paid for by picking pockets.
Troll Priest (AH and Bank Mule): Steals all the money and sets himself up a church in Sen'jin Village.

I have to admit, every time I go back, I fall in love with Teldrasil all over again. It's calm; it's quiet; it's pretty.
I know, I know, it's boring and it IS a bit flat and nonthreatening in places. But isn't that just what an old Night Elf needs when her back is tired of lugging around a heavy battle staff? It's the sort of place you could lie down on the vines for a quick nap and nothing would happen to come your way for a good few hours.
However, currently Azurelle is returning to Stormwind for sheer centrality/ease of access to all those little shops.
If she does have a sudden change of heart though, I can see Azu setting up camp in Booty Bay. That quirky little place would have even Han Solo off for a visit.

Draenei shaman: back to the Exodar, I suppose, to become one of those endlessly walking NPCs who hangs out with Drysc (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=18918).
Troll priest: Sen'jin Village. Or maybe the Valley of Trials - the priest trainer out there has got to be getting old by now...
Undead warlock: Tranquillien. I don't see him as the kind who'd ever truly 'settle down,' plus after doing all the quests out there to forge a bond between the blood elves and the rest of the Horde, he's a pretty popular guy. In Tranquillien, anyway.

I remember in Ultima Online my hometown was usually Vesper, I probably ended up there.
When quitting Asheron's Call I distinctly remember watching the sunset over Eastham.
But in WoW because of the XP boost I'm always tempted by habit to hearth back to Ironforge, so thats probably where I'll end up. I'm pretty sure thats where they ended up the first time I quit back in June of '05.
Foss Mar 12th 2008 9:22AM
Nagrand, definitely. It's a beautiful looking zone with plenty of wildlife for hunting, and zangarmash is just to the north for fishing. For shopping, Shattrath is close by, and I hear Greatmother Geyah is a very good babysitter!
kunukia Mar 12th 2008 9:24AM
My first toon, a NE druid, logged out in Itharius's Cave, in the Swamp of Sorrows, when I was going to be away from game for several months. My channel in the guild Teamspeak server is 'Achi's Cave'. So, that is where she would go. My (main) Dwarf hunter? Nagrand, I think.
aratan Mar 12th 2008 9:33AM
For druids, it should be Moonglade, so they can join the 'emerald dream' for eternity.
Razielwings Mar 12th 2008 12:17PM
If you think about it, the classic druids of WoW Lore are all "quitters" who retire to the emerald dream after burning out, having run BWL one too many times only to come back when they chan- I mean when they're needed and continue on through Black Temple...

When I "quit" the first time I deleted all my characters except my main (Tauren Druid) in TB looking off one of the bluffs over the green fields of Mulgore.
If I ever retire my Warlock I'll probably put him in Raventusk Village in the Hinterlands. Very peaceful and relaxing. And plenty of turtles so I can whip up "Soothing Turtle Bisque" when the mood strikes.
