WoW Moviewatch: Orcs in SPACE! 2
Orcs in SPACE! 2 is about two orcs, Dr. Strange Orc and Dink, in ... (You guessed it!) space! They trade witty banter back and forth, and put on a song and dance. Along the way, a strange moon joins in on the action. While this is definitely not my favorite Oxhorn machinima, I enjoyed the rap in the end.

Didn't make it that far. Stupid opening song and bad voice acting.
Skipped through and they started singing.

I didn't want those 9 minutes of my life anyway.

Let this guy be the creative control... but he needs to find new voice actors ASAP. I just can't bring myself to watch them. It's that bad.
Minnow Mar 13th 2008 1:50PM
Hmm. whats on the other side of Azeroth?? :O
gundamxzero Mar 13th 2008 1:52PM
Absolutely retarded, not funny not to mention the voice acting is HORRIBLE. I really dont know why he keeps making machinimas, I guess the same reason more "how to paladin" vids come out.

Why all the hate? Was I the only one that liked this?
Like Moo said, not his best, but it's certainly up there and kept me smiling through most of the short.
Though, it did start a tad slow, but as it went on, the quality improved because of the dialogue. And, maybe it's just me, but I love hearing old songs like that A Capella, and especially when they're in tune with good harmony.
It reminded me of some of Monty Python's older stuff. It's in the same, quiet, yet confident hooplah that shows the author knows how to not take himself seriously.
Continue on, Oxhorn. :)

Ok, since most of you wouldn't know the meaning of constructive criticism if it beat you senseless in a back alley, let's have a look at this video from an objective perspective.. ish. It's a little difficult to keep a proper, objective stand-point on this one without the temptation to give advice, so I'm gonna give advice. Forgive the mixed references.
First off, like the new Oxhorn Production's and Short Short's bumpers, very nice, stick with that. However, the actual intro, was completely pointless. Why are we reprising a theme from the Rocky movies in a machinima about space, other than to waste an entire minute of film time? And what's so short about 11 minutes? Doesn't that make it, well, one of the longest films Oxhorn has ever made?
Aside from that, let's talk about the meat. The accents? Gotta go. Oxhorn cannot pull them off, at all. They sound brutally forced in a way that sails past the point of square peg in round hole, all the way to shoving an angry cat into a tiny mailbox filled with bees. Standard Oxhorn-brand voice-overs please. They work, we're used to them. If you need someone different, then bring in someone different. Doing accents if difficult, no two ways about it, but it's also not for everyone. As is evident here, it's not for Oxhorn either.
Secondly, sound quality. It's poor, it's over-produced in the sense that there are too many noise-reduction filters and de-essers on it. My best guess as an amateur audio producer is that there was too much noise going on in the room he was recording in. The voices are tinny and sound processed because typical noise-reduction profiles cut out large chunks of particular frequencies that generally contain the background noise. In doing so, they also cut a big chunk out of the actual voice itself if over-used. It's safe to say that you could get this kind of quality out of a $10 headset from Walmart, and I know Oxhorn has a better mic than that. Next time, work on getting yourself into a sound-booth. Your other machinima demonstrate a grasp of how to make your vocal work sound good, what went wrong this time? If you really have background noise issues, then why not resort to the old staple of bed-music?
Video quality is as you'd expect, but not up to the standard of his Christmas work or his later 'Swear Words' machinimas, and restricted by his job with WeGame, who's streaming is inferior in comparison to services likes Vimeo. I can understand the lo-fi 'Python' approach, but that is generally accompanied by an appropriate style, both visually and in the case of jokes and humor. It is at this point that things really start to go south.
Within 3 and a half minutes of starting up we are 'treated' to a trademark song, except this one is just really badly written and sung to the point of being cringe-worthily bad. Why I don't know, he's capable of a lot more. It also serves no practical purpose. Why is it even there? Some attempt at 'random' humor, or a reference to the fact they're in space and far away from anything? If so, well, it just doesn't work. The excessive length and questionable 2-part harmony doesn't help matters either, it's a waste of screen-time, I'd go as far as to accuse it of being little more than artistic laziness in an effort to fill time and not break a sweat over some actual complex model-viewer composition.
5 and a half minutes in we're hit with something that could have been ripped straight out of the Mighty Boosh without anyone who isn't British actually noticing (google it, seriously). Yes, nice bit of typical self-depreciating humor, but we already know it's a ridiculous concept. Why not exploit that, rather than spending time pointing it out. That in itself is treating the audience like idiots, which is ironic in itself. On a pointless side-note, an explosion in a space-battle would of course be the result of escaping oxygen from the stricken ship.
I'd like to say the rap was the only redeeming part of this thing, but that would be telling lies simply to be kind. Taking the piss out of rap has been old for a very long time, and many have done it, an awful lot better. Apply those writing skills to some decent original songs for a change, preferably ones that don't make the viewer want to dig his own eardrums out with a fork.
Conclusion? I hated it. I didn't like a single thing about it, it's the epitome of lazy model-viewer machinima. If you're going to use model-viewer like that, at least back it up with some reasonable writing. Two layers of model-viewed orc on a static-background do not a finely-crafted comedy make.
Two frozen, oxygen-deprived space thumbs, down.

Yes, but TB does his creation not give glory to Jesus and is therefore sacred? Shame on ye!
TotalBiscuit Mar 14th 2008 1:47PM
I'm sure Jesus would rather have a good machinima dedicated to him.

Drolltacular!

I enjoyed it, and it was certainly funnier than that one episode of swear words(3 I think).
There were parts that were slightly flat, but as a simple side project it's really not worth such a heap of vitriol.
I do have to agree that the stream from wegame is horrid. Shouldn't be buffering on the second playthrough, for such a low quality video.
