Behold Frostmourne!
No, seriously, behold Frostmourne! (Block of ice trapping the undead soul of Ner'zhul sold separately.) Now, I generally don't collect mechandise. I ignored the t-shirts, I didn't get the toys, I only read the comic book because I'm a lore geek. But look at it.
It's Frostmourne. It's a 47 inch replica of the greatest, most evil runesword yet seen in game! This thing is aimed directly at my wallet. It's actually a huge mistake on my part to even post this because my wife reads the site and now she'll know what she's getting for our anniversary.
I'm just kidding, this baby's all mine.
I do wonder if it will be disappointing if I get it and it doesn't tear away my soul and drive me onward to serve the malevolent will of the Lich King. I mean, that's part of the draw, right? I mean, just check out the stats for this thing! (Warning, stats are a joke from Blizzcon.)
It's apparently being sold and also there's an auction if you want to try and get a special, low numbered edition. Sadly, I'll have to miss that, I like being able to pay rent and eat too much. But if you have the money to spare, and you want to have a chunk of decorative metal in the form of a licensed copy of the dread runeblade, now's your chance!

I guess their website can only handle 1 person at a time. Shame.
Charlie Taylor Mar 14th 2008 3:45PM
Yeah, looks like we hosed the website :/
Zumwalah Mar 14th 2008 3:53PM

Jasperwind Mar 14th 2008 4:05PM
Cool. I've seen the slashdot effect many, many times, but never the wowinsider effect. =)

I dont know what parts are jokes are what aren't, but it has intellect...so.. a 2H pally legendary sword only?? they would be the only class w a sword designed specific for them, (hunters dont count, blizz gave them a legendary bow in 2.4; plus they already stated the huge mistake of making Thundersomething the MC sword available for hunters too)
I was waiting for a 1H tanking legendary sword instead, since Ashbringer is 2h, right?
I'm assuming a lot but, if Lich King is incoming in next expansion you bet that sword is too.
Warcloud Mar 15th 2008 1:12AM
Parts? No parts. The pic of the stats is a gag that Blizzard cooked up for a laugh at the convention.
Heston Swallow Mar 14th 2008 4:28PM
who tipped it off?
Matthew Rossi Mar 14th 2008 4:56PM
Far too many to list. Heck. we're STILL getting tips about it.
Ametrine Mar 14th 2008 4:25PM

I would honestly advise against buying this if you're any sort of sword collector. I'm not above buying ridiculously geeky replica weaponry, but this just screams overpriced for the quality. I used to manage a boutique shop that stocked collectible as well as utilitarian knives and swords in the Washington D.C. suburbs.
First off, the blade is stainless steel. At over $400 this thing should be made of at least high-carbon steel. The hilt and all the ornamentation on it are cast metal, which means cast from a mold. That leads to cosmetic defects and imperfections that can't be fixed manually. Stainless steel is the bottom of the barrel when it comes to cutlery.
And the sword itself? Not very cool looking, honestly. It's badass in a game, but you'd get tired of it on a wall. I own a replica of Anduril from Lord of the Rings, The blade is similar in make, stainless steel, engraving, false-edged. The hilt, however, was hand-crafted, with 24ct gold ornamentation, as well as a genuine leather wrap and sterling silver plating on the crossbar and pommel.
It's my most valuable collector's sword, I bought it for under half the price of this Frostmourne, and it has since quadrupled in value. Anyone buying this is being taken for a fool, save your money and wait for an unlicensed copy at 1/5 the cost.
Matthew Rossi Mar 14th 2008 4:55PM
I know you're right, but I'm made horribly sad by this dose of reality you have provided.
Angelus Mar 14th 2008 4:34PM
If it takes a fool then a fool I'll be.
I've been dying for a replica like this. Through all the lore of any videogame or fantasy story, I've always considered Frostmourne the baddest sword of all.
As to the one mentioning Frostmourne's possible inclusion in WotLK. I sincerely hope it's tagged for Paladins and Death Knights.
Warriors and Rogue had their turn with the Twin Blades of Azzinoth. Hunters are having their turn next patch. I'd say it's probably time for a new caster legendary as well though.
Edboy Mar 14th 2008 6:31PM
Hear that sound? It's the sound of a joke going over your head.
Sam Mar 14th 2008 4:53PM
That is by far the most sexual thing i have ever seen. Ordering now.
vak Mar 14th 2008 4:54PM
 thank you for this! =]

Website crashing publicity is good publicity. That being said, it's definitely a nice looking piece, but @ $400, I could get another gun. Though I'm not much of the "fantasy-sword on the wall" guy anyway. And while I largely agree with magicswordguy, the quality of the steel is largely irrelevant for something like this. Stainless will stay pretty in grubby hands. It's a collector-piece. Nothing more. Save the carbon-steel for real knives.
magicswordking Mar 14th 2008 9:51PM
Its not so much the quality of the steel as it is the price for the quality. I think $200 would be a fairly reasonable price point for a limited edition frostmourne, officially licensed and all with identical material and manufacturing. I just can't grasp the pricing, its frankly unheard of. And trust me, this sword comes out in may? The ocean of knockoffs, and for a display piece, a knockoff is still going to do the job for this sword, will be there in July.
Also the bit about Kit Rae (not Kae, Rae) does little for my confidence. Kit Rae is notorious in the sword world for unwieldy and overly expensive gothic fantasy swords. The thing about gothic fantasy is that it looks great on paper, not so much once it translates into steel.
Silverrealm Mar 14th 2008 5:12PM
I don't care what 'Mr. Piss in our cheerios' says up above about quality blah blah blah. That is a badass looking sword, and LoTR is fine and all, if you like that kind of thing, but WotLK might JUST be more important to some people.
That's why it's considered a collector's item, and hence...
WANT.
Good Dai Sir!
Sedna Mar 14th 2008 5:17PM
How much to slap an Executioner chant on there?
...Okay, maybe Lifestealing.
